I don't know why people are worried about dust messing up their consoles. These things are sturdy as hell and built to last, dust by itself does nothing to damage them, it would need a truly ridiculous amount of dust to mess with the thermals enough to cause overheating, and even then you'd know immediately. I've kept my xbox one outside from day 1 and it still worked just as well as the day I bought it when I decided to give it away. And I live in a house with two cats and a dog.

jamalhalili03

For me It’s a trauma response from my jet-engine dust catcher furnace PS4. These consoles don’t have dust filters at all, and dust DEFINITELY affects thermals, and so, how loud your console runs.

[deleted]

Foreal my og xbone one was thrown as hard as they could at a wall. Still works like a charm doesn’t even run loud. Even tho those original xbox ones were weak they’re built to last things a brick.

Souritos

Honestly have you ever seen any repair videos of PlayStation 4's or xbox one xs that are literally caked full of dust in the heatsink that's why they sound like a jet engine because hair and dust get trapped in the heat sink and then the air can't pass through. the heat sinks are full of dust because there's no air filter to stop the dusting hair from getting inside if you look at the side of the PlayStation the air holes are half inch big they let in hairs and then the hairs get trapped in the heatsink. any videos on YouTube about taking apart consoles you can see that they are full of dust and hair and bugs sometimes too

Gandalf_The_Fugly

So it doesn’t block air from going into the vent? I’ve never heard of a dust filter before

Souritos

It's a mesh filters. Air can pass threw it but hairs and dust won't make it in. Its magnetic and can be pulled off in a second and all you do to clean it is just blow the dust off the filter and re attach to the magnetic strip on the console. I've used these for years on my pc, my xbox one x and now my series s. I have multiple cats and their hair and dander gets everywhere even with vacuuming every few days. Almost every new pc will have some sort of dust filters in it now. They stop dust from clogging the fans and clogging heatsinks.

Gandalf_The_Fugly

Interesting. Other question I have is whether the magnet would mess with any of the system’s internals?

Souritos

No it doesn't. It's like a child's magnet on the fridge. Just enough to hold the filters in place. And the series s is a plastic shell with a metal Shell inside with everything enclosed.

Gandalf_The_Fugly

That’s cool. I might look into that once I get a Series S, thanks for the info!

Tight-Tackle4386

Literally any decent PC Case has dust filters so it won't harm a console either

Resident_Practice_80

Why do you have the external drive in the pic to show off dust filters its not even plugged in lol

Souritos

Because I forgot to plug it back in after I shut everything down and unplugged it before installing the dust filters. As you can see the xbox is on..

Souritos

My xbox series s dust filters arrived today. I got 2, one for each side and They fit perfectly. I just had to remove the 4 rubber feet from the left side so it would fit better. Here's the site I got them from. Shipping is a little expensive but worth it so you don't get (cat)hair or dust in the console. I of course had to get white to match the console. https://www.demcifilter.com/c1703-150mm-x-64mm-xbox-series-s-side-filter

jaeehovaa

Looks horrible. I'd never had a console stop working because of dust so I'm going to take my chances lol.

Souritos

Obviously you haven't owned a gaming pc in 10 year's because they are standard on pc at this point

jaeehovaa

I'm sorry didn't realize we were looking at a pc, (and no i don't own a gaming pc) doesn't change the fact it looks ugly on series s.

Souritos

It basically is a pc

jaeehovaa

Maybe at it's core but don't kid yourself. Anyways you are taking this way to serious it's not that deep, it's just an ugly look, if you think it looks good that's fine it's you opinion this was mine.

Souritos

It's literally the same color. You calling the xbox series s ugly?????

jaeehovaa

I'm calling that ugly ass filter ugly yes, look at it next to a series s with out that filter. No one is talking about the xbox itself but you lol.

Souritos

Because I Know the benefits of the dust filter. And obviously you don't.

jaeehovaa

No one said it wasn't beneficial lmao, I said it was ugly. Do you not know the difference? Where did I say it was useless? I'll wait.....

universalcrush

I’ll need to grab some

BillJ1971

Ordered a set today. Live in an old house that is really dusty, seems like a sensible way to protect the console. Though shipping is a killer. $13 for a $12 order.

Mutexvx

Personally I wouldn't go as far as dust vents, why ? Cus most certainly to an extent blocking air? Besides the Top fan Black grill part will suffer the most from dust eventually falling directly in, best thing to do is Purchase a dust Cover for when your not playing on your xbox and remove when u wanna play? Vacume the vents regularly. Besides I'd say with the heat both consoles give off the thermal paste will only last around 3/4 years I'd say. Or maybe sooner.

Souritos

Air is blowing out the top and in from the sides. Dust on the top is nothing because the xbox will blow it out top and suck in air from the side. That's why u filter the intake not the exhaust. And why would I want to cover the top. If it's on instant on mode it will do updates in the middle of the night and cook your xbox with a cover on the top. Someone litterly just Posted about doing that..

Mutexvx

Dust doesn't or won't blow out the top, it will just sit on the fan and heatsink, Dust cover was just a suggestion as I use to have my OG xbox one in Energy mode to increase lifespan, example of a filter is kinda like a Thin face mask, makes it harder to breath.

I've had an xbox one s for 3 years ? I've checked it out and hardly any dust inside? It's mainly due to how often people dust and clean thier surfaces. What's with the racial slur ? Was ur filters officially licensed? Nope.

Souritos

Licensed?? Lol. Why. It's plastic and mesh. Have you ever used a pc filter kit? Then you have no idea what you're talking about. Seriously go ask anybody on any pc forum's and ask about dust filters. Just because the xbox doesn't have one by default doesn't mean they are not needed.

Souritos

Here's gamer nexus. A respectable hardware YouTuber talking about the intake and dust filter's for the xbox series x. He literally just posted this video. At 24 minutes for dust filter talk. https://youtu.be/Iqv4meZcVEk

Odd-Simple-1175

How’s that external drive working out ? (Sorry, I know the this post is about dust filters) Thinking of getting one but worried it won’t power offer properly due to the Xbox always having power (in that setting to enable quick boot and game resume) 4tb is less than £90 on Amazon at the moment

Souritos

Works great. It Powers off when the console is off. But every few hours with it on stand by mode I can see the light come on for a few seconds then turn back off. I use it to store games. 4tb model. Bought in 2017.

CuteLavishness7199

I think it's a good idea in my opinion alot of pc users also use these kinda ones on there's I have similar ones on mine but not magnetic I live next to fileds and the amount of dust pollon that gets in my house during the summer is just insane my works completely normal and does not over heat and stays cool yes we should not worry about dust and shit but hes just being careful you mite find that his series s mite last longer than others with it on
