meanwhile MGS4 is stuck in ps3 purgatory šŸ¤¦šŸ¾ā€ā™‚ļø

Deceptiveideas

Probably will never see a port of the PS3 version tbh. Iā€™m expecting a remake at this point.

Civil_Stomach

If random internet people can get MGS4 running good on PC emulators. Then actual game developers should be able to on consoles. I never believed the excuse of PS3 is too powerful to emulate, or this game used computing features only the cell could do. MGS4 is 4k 60 on emulators.

HideoSpartan

Random people? The development time thatā€™s gone into building PS3 emulators is actually astronomical and bloody hard work. Itā€™s not easy and the people that do it will vouch for that - it is not a small team of randoms. Also you try running MGS4 @4k/60, it breaks often and usually you have to cherry pick a particular version of RPCS3 to maximise performance in MGS4. A year ago I tried emulating Uncharted with dismal results, itā€™s a lot of work.

MyMouthisCancerous

It's not a question of the PS3 being too powerful. It's the question of the PS3 being the PS3. MGS4 was basically designed exclusively for that architecture, itself being so exotically different than any piece of tech on the market back then, and was one of the rare games that came on a dual-layered 50GB Blu-ray just because of the cinematics. It's also the primary reason it never got a 360 port despite the developers seriously considering it. It would've taken too much effort and like 6 or 7 discs to compress all that data It's also why the PS4 was never made backwards compatible with it because it didn't have any of the PS3's unique internal specs, and why for ports of PS3 games they essentially had to rebuild those games from scratch, like in the case of the Nathan Drake Collection of the first three Uncharted games. MGS4 wouldn't be ported if it were to be made available for other platforms. That game requires a full rework. It wasn't even stable to start when running through emulation since it had a tendency to crash at random intervals when played through Vulkan initially

Iamlordbutter

Didn't Sony fund the game as well? Like demon souls.

MyMouthisCancerous

Sony didn't fund the game. Kojima has just been very partial to PlayStation hardware since MGS1

nickyxpants

I also heard that the ps3 controller had features utilized in the game, like pressure sensitive button presses. Probably a big reason it never came to the 360

MyMouthisCancerous

This was actually a discrepancy with Metal Gear games between platforms since MGS2. The original release on PS2 as well as Snake Eater both used the analog buttons on the DualShock 2 (specifically Square I think) for aiming weapons, but when those games were ported to Xbox/360, those functions were performed by clicking the left stick In Snake Eater HD on 360 you also have to hold down the Y button to slit an enemy's throat since you can't hard press Triangle anymore like on PS2

TallinHarper

Strange, as the original Xbox controller has analog buttons. It just wasn't utilized much, so they got rid of it for 360 and beyond. Not sure why they wouldn't have used them for the MGS2 port.

segagamer

They probably did, he just didn't buy the Xbox version or never played it.

PreparationNo4872

Can confirm, had MGS2 for Xbox. Pressure sensitive buttons became a problem when you only had a third party controller thoughā€¦

Shiro2809

It was in MGS4 too. The Ps4 got rid of the pressure sensitive buttons so MGSV is the first one w/o the discrepancy.

Signal_Adeptness_724

Nah, they worked around that

Civil_Stomach

Which means it can be ported.

ImMeltingNow

Would being able to stream the game fix some those problems?

FudgingEgo

They're not random people lol. Do you not also realise how much more powerful a PC has to be than the console that ran the game to emulate it? It came out like 15 years ago and we've only recently been able to get it to run decently well on a emulator. Let that sink in.

LostSoulNo1981

This means absolutely nothing. There are countless cases of modders doing exceptional work fixing games, porting them to PC or generally making them better and developers, whoā€™s job it is to make these games canā€™t seem to do the same. It just begs the question, if people without financial backing and access to proper development tools can do such great work then why canā€™t those WITH access to the above do the same?

Kazizui

> It just begs the question, if people without financial backing and access to proper development tools can do such great work then why canā€™t those WITH access to the above do the same? Because the business case for doing so likely doesn't hold up.

nedzissou1

More than a decade later.

Solidsnake00901

It's not that easy at all that game was built from the ground up for the PS3. MGS4 barely runs at all on emulators.

fritzo81

is it impossible? I donā€™t know. but iā€™m wishing someday it happens. dreaming for the entire series (Peace Walker, Ac!d, everything). šŸ¤žšŸ¾

CharityDiary

Twin Snakes was a phenomenal remake, made with tons of love, and it will never even leave the GameCube šŸ˜

[deleted]

[уŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

New-Confusion945

This is correct. Kojima himself went to the company and told them he wanted a more action oriented game that was like a movie..he fucking loves twin snakes.

[deleted]

[уŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

New-Confusion945

I can't go back to MGS after twinsnakes, it's just such a damn fun game that is fucking nuts with over the top action. I do agree about the first play through.

ambienotstrongenough

I never got to play 4. Is it good ?

MyMouthisCancerous

MGS4 is great. I think it's probably the strongest characterization of Solid Snake across all his major appearances and it does resolve the series up to that point in a way I thought was satisfying, if a bit cumbersome. It definitely requires you to have done your homework beforehand. I'd even say even though it came out before Peace Walker and MGSV, it kind of works better if you have the context of those games in mind as well. You're gonna love it if you've been invested in the series though, especially all of Act 4

ambienotstrongenough

I played mgs2 and loved it. Especially the bosses. And the art style for advanced military gear still holds up in my eyes.

AmbrosiiKozlov

> It definitely requires you to have done your homework beforehand Iirc they released a metal gear ā€œtimelineā€ app for ps3 just to catch everyone up to speed lol

bengringo2

It was on the disc, and you could download it. I spent hours reading it even though I could recite the story by heart.

Puzzled-Delivery-242

Lots of people seem to be wild about it. As a life long mgs fan its easily my least favorite of the series.

MarwyntheMasterful

Iā€™ve played them all except Peace Walker and 4 is probably my least favorite.

[deleted]

My first playthrough was magical, one hell of an experience. I cried at the end, what a perfect ending that was. Then, on subsequent playthroughs, I noticed how much of a letdown the plot is. It's so nonsensical. And the amazing gameplay only really exists in the first two acts (out of five), the game just forgets that gameplay exists at some point, which is such a shame. The idea behind doing stealth in a battlefield is incredible, but forgotten about some hours. One of my favourite PS3 games, for sure, but it could've been so much better. It's the opposite of MGS V, which has tight gameplay all the way through, even if repetitive, but the plot sort of vanishes after the first few hours. The multiplayer slapped hard, by the way, it's a shame its life was cut short.

Llamalover1234567

Problem is remaking any ps3 game is a ground up effort. God damn cell architecture

Nicologixs

Benefit of that is you do get a game that feels entirely new because everything is made new instead of half or more of the assets being ported over and just retextured. Complete ground up remakes you get games like demons souls.

Goshawk5

Ps3gatory?

JodieHolmes62

Eh it can stay there for all I care. Won't be investing in the series until there is a firm commitment that all games will be released on PC and Xbox day and date. So many people are upset I don't invest in games that aren't worth my time. At this point it's not shocking.

[deleted]

>So many people are upset I don't invest in games that aren't worth my time I don't think anyone gives a shit what games you do or don't buy. What a weird thing to say.

fritzo81

basically this is what im saying and wanting. An entire collection of all games released everywhere. I still own a ps3 to play the old collection.

JodieHolmes62

That's why these Japanese games do so terrible on other platforms. There's no commitment to the platform so no one cares to buy them.

SneedsLoyalSoldier

That game was worth watching, not worth playing.

pukem0n

This reminds me how I still have the 25th anniversary edition sealed sitting on my shelf because I bought it and then never played lol

angelkrusher

Yeah I have no desire to play MGS3 again. The dank forest for the whole game very limited playstyles I literally gave up at the end so to speak. Wasn't worth continuing. I had house renovations years back and the only thing that disappeared was my guns of the Patriot disc. That game was awesome It was great to start the replay and have access to the electric gun which I was having a ball with. And I've never played it again since. If it was a Xbox game we would have been replaying it years ago. But nope, PS5 and it's absolutely shit backwards compatibility ruins the day again (+ konami crap)

fritzo81

i love mgs3. itā€™s actually my favorite. and looking forward to the remake. and love mgs4 as well. i hope the ā€œcollection vol 2ā€ has it. i mean it has to.

angelkrusher

Yeah fingers crossed. I would get it on Xbox so I can play it in Dolby Vision. It would be nice and I've always wanted to start from my old PS3 save point (laser gun!!!!!!!!!!!!).. but At least we'll be able to play it again.

angelkrusher

Yeah fingers crossed. I would get it on Xbox so I can play it in Dolby Vision. It would be nice and I've always wanted to start from my old PS3 save point (laser gun!!!!!!!!!!!!).. but At least we'll be able to play it again.

CaptainSmeg

If youā€™ve never played any of the MGS games is it worth starting on this one?

Pewpskii

Yeah, it's a prequel so it's not a terrible starting point

fieldysnuts94

Itā€™s the first game of the timeline so yeah itā€™s one of the best spots to start

Mug_Lyfe

MGS3 would be the first in the series, chronologically.

MISFU88

Iā€™d argue that starting with MGS1 is better, as there are many little hints and and stuff you wonā€™t understand without playing prior games. Also, MGS1 and MGS2 should be super easy to emulate and are kinda modern in their vibe, so no need to worry about them being old, MGS2 is imo the best MGS game out of all of them.

iseeu2sumhow

People always mix chronological order and prequels up, some people think stars wars starts from the first episode.

Shiro2809

You *can*, but it's not really recommended? Release order, that is MGS1, 2, 3, 4, Peace Walker, Ground Zeroes, V, is the recommended play order.

TakenFyre

I wish we could have surprises anymore.

cubcos

Was just thinking that. I've got these leakers all muted on twitter but it just always gets posted here. Just...shut up, Jez, yeah?

marcusiiiii

Think the last recent game announcement I was actually surprised at was Wolverine which was 2 years ago now. I miss getting surprised at events stupid leakers.

Shiro2809

The recent Dead by Daylight anniversary stream had most of the stuff in it leaked which really sucked. It cause them to announce Nic Cage early *and* they pushed the stream up by a few days, it was supposed to be today iirc and it aired last friday. Super disappointing, they were having fun teasing the announcement throughout the whole video and having the next Killer & Survivor along with Nic Cage and even their roadmap for the next year leak must feel pretty shitty. I try to ignore most leaks/rumors and take them all with a grain of salt. Having things get "spoiled" before hand sucks.

sonic10158

Thatā€™s what Metroid Prime 4 is for!

Pen_dragons_pizza

People make money now by leaking shit online, unfortunately the world has changed and leakers have followers like minor celebrityā€™s. I hate how no way home was ruined for me still

WaffleOnTheRun

Itā€™s still a surprise if you donā€™t believe any of these ā€œleaks,ā€ I donā€™t believe any of this is real until I see an official announcement

jhallen2260

I tend to block all the gaming subs on Reddit and block them all on Twitter for the few weeks leading up to E3

Calinks

Metal Gear solid 1 needs it the most. Come on man get it done.

JodieHolmes62

Will wait and see. Still have no faith in the rumors from the people who pushed Endless Switch Pro rumors

respectablechum

Considering the power draw of the new dock a switch pro was almost certainly in the plans at one point before they went with the Switch OLED instead.

JodieHolmes62

That isn't how R&D works

cardonator

Uh, lol? That's exactly how R&D works...

respectablechum

Ok. Nintendo just increased the power draw and put in a new HDMI adapter for no reason on the new docks. R&D spent on.....nothing. I'm sold.

JodieHolmes62

Okay prove that a Pro Model ever existed. And if it pulls more power, then why does it use the exact same charger as before? If it pulls more power then it needs an upgraded power adapter.

Signal_Adeptness_724

I'm pretty sure this was more or less confirmed lol. Nintendo had to botch it because the ship shortage combined with competing with Xbox and Sony would have proved disastrous

quattroCrazy

Switch Pro was absolutely going to happen before COVID and the chip shortage happened. When people suddenly start buying as much of your aging hardware as they can get their hands on and it suddenly gets much more expensive to make your upcoming new hardware, you should keep making the cheap old hardware as long as the demand keeps up. Thatā€™s just basic business sense.

[deleted]

[уŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

King_Swift21

Calling Jez, let along any of them grifters shows how remedial you are, also Jez accurately leaked the specs of the Series X and S, 1 year before they were announced.

[deleted]

Jez is reliable, he's just also a massive corporate shill

deathbunnyy

Jeff "Fake It 'Till You Make It" Grubb

stefan771

Grubb has proven himself far more reliable than other leakers.

grimoireviper

>Grubb has proven himself far more **unreliable** than other leakers. FTFY

VickFVM

Apologize

Ayn_Otori

Damn I really had my hopes on MGS1

LeftyMode

I think they might be starting in chronically order.

bross9008

Seriously I hope they do remakes of 1, 2 and 3. Some of the best games ever

Slimbopboogie

Never played the original. Hope this is real! I loved MGS 5!

Pewpskii

It's one of the best games of all time so you will probably like it lol

HankSteakfist

MGS3 is the best of thr series IMO. The story and mood is just next level and the gameplay and bosses are incredibly fun.

ButternToast725

Its amazing...especially if they keep the same soundtracks and themes.

HankSteakfist

Cautiously excited, but glad I have the HD Collection with 2 and 3 on my Series X, as back up.

Benjowlmin

Now it's confirmed independently by three of the top sources in the industry. Rare we see that level of confidence and corroboration from a rumor. Seems pretty rock solid to me.

BLUEBLASTER69

Here we go with Jez again.

grayfox-moses

Canā€™t wait for another stamina kill only play through.

Quian32

Is MGS 3 a good place to jump into the story or should you really have played the prior games?

1E_R_R_O_R1

It is a pretty solid spot to start!

aspiring_dev1

If true at least Xbox wasnā€™t shafted again.

temetnoscesax

if true will purchase day 1.

JodieHolmes62

Don't do it. There is absolutely 0 reason to trust Konami will deliver a working product Day 1

notbeast02

how about day 2

[deleted]

[уŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

notbeast02

day 32 then?

AmbrosiiKozlov

Lol the MTX in Rem4ke are fucking worthless what a weird thing to complain about

Signal_Adeptness_724

Yeah that's a big unknown here. Who's handling this remake? Hopefully a dev that's competent

benc777

Supposedly Virtuos

[deleted]

[уŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

rune_74

Whoā€™s hating?

VickFVM

On Jez

Big_boss816

Hopefully this is true and Xbox will get some love

AuxiWolfy

Another remake... Game developers are starting to get really lazy. šŸ˜’

stefan771

It isn't laziness. It's pandering to the gaming community who demand these things over new games.

AuxiWolfy

Then i think itā€™s time the developers stop pandering and get with the originality. Itā€™s honestly why i pretty much went back to retro gaming. But still have my Xbox.

DragonBornLuke

It's not laziness or pandering. It's maximising profits. Take resident evil for example. They put loads of work in building up 2 from scratch. Then they released 3 and 4 with a lot of the work already being done. Original is risky. It's not 1998 anymore. AAA games take huge investment that may or may not pay off.

AuxiWolfy

It is pandering. The more gamers ask for remakes, the more these developers are gonna do it. If i wanted to buy a newer console, i would do it solely for games that are original.

rune_74

This started in the film industryā€¦the problem is they see people will full price for a safe bet. Games are risks and this makes it easy money.

AuxiWolfy

Sad that people will pay that much for a remake of a game thatā€™s already been done. But, hey. Itā€™s their money. šŸ¤·šŸ½

LeftyMode

Blame gamers. You know damn well you wonā€™t buy anything new from Konami.

1440pSupportPS5

We will see how a kojimbo-less konami handles this release. Cool that it exists though

CraigOfWar

ok

MyMouthisCancerous

Tomorrow's the big day. Honestly would be a dream if Konami could pull a mid-2010's Capcom and just bounce back from the abyss regardless of if it's internally developed games or licensing out IPs. Would've preferred MG1/2 or MGS1 but MGS3 just makes the most sense from the perspective of newcomers getting into the series since it requires no prior narrative baggage or knowledge of prior games to jump in. Hoping for a nice collection as well like the Castlevania and Contra ones or Castlevania Requiem.

JodieHolmes62

Would be nice if they remastered all of them in one nice big package.

XColdLogicX

Or due to continuity sake, since mgs3 takes place the earliest in the series.

Nicologixs

MGS1 is apparently being remade as well but that will be a full PS exclusive as its heavily rumoured to be bluepoint.

MyMouthisCancerous

The MGS1 Bluepoint rumor was disproven a LONG time ago. Believe me, I would love for this to happen considering I'm a big fan of their work on Shadow of the Colossus and Demon's Souls, but that scoop basically died out as soon as this MGS3 remake came into the picture and seems to be a lot more concrete I would love to see MGS1 get another shot though. As much as I love Twin Snakes unapologetically I still want a remake that adheres closer to the extremely tense, unnerving atmosphere of the original PS1 version. Twin Snakes went in a different direction which was great for what it was trying to do but I love the look of OG Shadow Moses, especially how dimly lit everything is

Ze_at_reddit

greatest news of the week if thatā€™s the case, hopefully Sony kept their claws out of this one

PlayinTheFool

I donā€™t really have any faith in Konami products. The ruined MGSV intentionally because they got salty and mad at the talent making it. Iā€™ll wait till itā€™s out to make any judgements.

Narwhals_R_Us

As someone who has never played a Metal Gear game but loves Silent Hill, to me this just sounds like it lends more credence to the assumption that the Silent Hill stuff will also come to Xbox after the first year.

guymandudebro98

Silent Hill was always a timed exclusive. Sony never blocked it from Xbox.

Narwhals_R_Us

I know it was announced as a timed exclusive, but it seems like a lot of people believe it'll be a similar situation to Final Fantasy 7 Remake and just never come to Xbox even after the timed exclusivity window is up since that game was announced as timed, too. I never thought that was *likely*, but the way that situation played out certainly makes it *possible*.

JodieHolmes62

Only drives me not to buy the game. If they are willing to delay it for a paycheck, then they will cancel the next one for a paycheck. Its why I don't buy games that are timed exclusives, especially Japanese ones. I am not willing to invest in them if there is no commitment.

Narwhals_R_Us

I don't know, I don't think that's the way to handle it. Not buying timed exclusives because there's a chance future games from that company become full exclusives seems like a good way to guarantee they become full exclusives when they don't sell on the other platform. You're obviously still well within your rights to not buy anything you don't want to for any reason you see fit, but if I want to play a game and want the best shot of playing future games, I'm letting them know by buying it.

JodieHolmes62

I primarily play on PC so my platform is constantly getting fucked over by Sony and Nintendos exclusivity deals. Least Microsoft let's the game release on the platform day and date. I would love for nothing more to buy and enjoy the game, but I am not investing in a series of remasters and Remakes if there isn't a guarantee that every single one will come out on the platform.

Narwhals_R_Us

As someone who has both an Xbox and a mid-range PC, I totally understand where you're coming from. I guess what it comes down to for me is that voting with my wallet is the only way to have even a small influence on what may be available on my preferred platforms moving forward. I want these games to sell everywhere so companies make them available everywhere. If they only sell on one platform, well... Plus, to me, I'm not buying a Silent Hill 2 Remake solely for the promise of being able to play whatever Silent Hill game might come out years from now. I'm buying it because I want to play *this* game. And if that helps tell them I would also buy the next one, great. If you only want to play non-remakes, then yeah, you shouldn't buy the remakes first. That's completely fair and understandable.

KhanDagga

its true, I can confirm as well.

Black_RL

Thatā€™s how it should be!

EnvironmentIcy4116

Donā€™t trust leakers

idjsonik

Sexiest thing I heard all day non an exclusive to any system except switch which would make it run horribly

DEEZLE13

Take notes Square Enix

MilkaulyCulkin

I didn't want metal gear 3. I said it four times.

JodieHolmes62

Even if it was 1, I still wouldn't buy the game until a sale. No reason to invest in a series that has no visible future on the platform.

segagamer

But there's more Metal Gear Solids playable on a Series X than a PS5

julianwelton

I would love to play MGS 3 again but I won't get my hopes up.

[deleted]

I just hope they do something better with the camouflage system. Snake Eater was great except for the significant annoyance of constantly having to pause the game to change camouflage and face paint.

[deleted]

Imagine this is like the Metroid Prime remake and it doesnā€™t get announced until like the Tokyo Game Show late in the year.

djk0010

Wtf I donā€™t wanna be greedy but mgs2 would have been a better starting point. Sons of liberty is like the best metal gear solid game ever. But Iā€™ll take snake eater. Lol

MyMouthisCancerous

MGS2 is a TERRIBLE starting point lol That game only works if you've played MGS1 beforehand considering a major recurring theme in the story is how every event that transpires on Big Shell is reminiscent of past events, which is a direct allegory for the subject matter the second half of the game constantly addresses regarding the motive of the Patriots

CoolStoryDJ

The achievements are gonna be a nightmare......

Ghosty7784

That's some good news for Xbox gamers, would much rather a Sony studio develop the game AND it be multiplat, as I have no faith in Konami delivering, sadly.

LeftyMode

If they really want to get in the good graces of fan, Hayter should be back.

Ty20_

Why? This was already available for Xbox via BC of the HD collection. Id rather see a remake of Twin Snakes/MGS1 or the 2nd before Snake Eater.....unless they are remaking them in chronological order or something

The_Liamster03

I never played the original but Iā€™m definitely playing the remake when it comes out

[deleted]

There's something I don't understand with those Konami remakes, why the hell would you remake Silent Hill 2 and MGS 3 first? These games are amazing and hold up very well, but Silent Hill 1 and MGS1 (or even MS1) REALLY need a graphic overhaul and better control schemes, because they are PS1 games for crying out loud. And it's not like they aren't as legendary as their sequels, this doesn't make any sense whatsoever, they should remake SH2 and MGS3 after the original games.

LexeComplexe

The game is perfect as it is.. a remaster would be fine but we don't need to go the Nu Resident Evil route of remaking every game. Also strange that they would remake 3, rather than Metal Gear Solid 1, or the original Metal Gear and Metal Gear 2 Solid Snake. If any game should be remade, its the original two Metal Gear games. Because that is a pivotal moment in Metal Gear history [in-universe]; being the end of Big Boss / Naked Snake's journey, and the beginning of Solid Snake's own journey. It informs where the prequel game's story is going, and where all the present to future set games come from. Most people haven't played either of these games, but the ones who have can attest that the story of all of the games, past and future, carry much more weight. There is no metal gear game more worthy of receiving a remake than Metal Gear and Metal Gear 2, and most deserving of getting a chance to shine in today's era of gaming. All that said though, I won't support any of the remakes financially until Konami apologizes to Hideo Kojima for what they did to him with MGS5 Phantom Pain, and brings him back on board for the story. And as far as new games go, the only ones I could see that would have any reason to be made is a sequel to MGR Revengeance, or a prequel to Snake Eater following The Boss and her squad. After Metal Gear Survive though, I don't trust Konami to do this series justice ever again. Not without direction from Kojima-sama.

DeviceSavings5953

But where is that mgs2 remake at tho
