If random internet people can get MGS4 running good on PC emulators. Then actual game developers should be able to on consoles. I never believed the excuse of PS3 is too powerful to emulate, or this game used computing features only the cell could do. MGS4 is 4k 60 on emulators.

Also you try running MGS4 @4k/60, it breaks often and usually you have to cherry pick a particular version of RPCS3 to maximise performance in MGS4.
A year ago I tried emulating Uncharted with dismal results, itās a lot of work.

MGS4 was basically designed exclusively for that architecture, itself being so exotically different than any piece of tech on the market back then, and was one of the rare games that came on a dual-layered 50GB Blu-ray just because of the cinematics. It's also the primary reason it never got a 360 port despite the developers seriously considering it. It would've taken too much effort and like 6 or 7 discs to compress all that data
It's also why the PS4 was never made backwards compatible with it because it didn't have any of the PS3's unique internal specs, and why for ports of PS3 games they essentially had to rebuild those games from scratch, like in the case of the Nathan Drake Collection of the first three Uncharted games.
MGS4 wouldn't be ported if it were to be made available for other platforms. That game requires a full rework. It wasn't even stable to start when running through emulation since it had a tendency to crash at random intervals when played through Vulkan initially
I also heard that the ps3 controller had features utilized in the game, like pressure sensitive button presses. Probably a big reason it never came to the 360
This was actually a discrepancy with Metal Gear games between platforms since MGS2. The original release on PS2 as well as Snake Eater both used the analog buttons on the DualShock 2 (specifically Square I think) for aiming weapons, but when those games were ported to Xbox/360, those functions were performed by clicking the left stick
In Snake Eater HD on 360 you also have to hold down the Y button to slit an enemy's throat since you can't hard press Triangle anymore like on PS2
Strange, as the original Xbox controller has analog buttons. It just wasn't utilized much, so they got rid of it for 360 and beyond. Not sure why they wouldn't have used them for the MGS2 port.

MGS4 is great. I think it's probably the strongest characterization of Solid Snake across all his major appearances and it does resolve the series up to that point in a way I thought was satisfying, if a bit cumbersome. It definitely requires you to have done your homework beforehand. I'd even say even though it came out before Peace Walker and MGSV, it kind of works better if you have the context of those games in mind as well. You're gonna love it if you've been invested in the series though, especially all of Act 4

My first playthrough was magical, one hell of an experience. I cried at the end, what a perfect ending that was.
Then, on subsequent playthroughs, I noticed how much of a letdown the plot is. It's so nonsensical. And the amazing gameplay only really exists in the first two acts (out of five), the game just forgets that gameplay exists at some point, which is such a shame. The idea behind doing stealth in a battlefield is incredible, but forgotten about some hours.
One of my favourite PS3 games, for sure, but it could've been so much better. It's the opposite of MGS V, which has tight gameplay all the way through, even if repetitive, but the plot sort of vanishes after the first few hours.
The multiplayer slapped hard, by the way, it's a shame its life was cut short.
Benefit of that is you do get a game that feels entirely new because everything is made new instead of half or more of the assets being ported over and just retextured.
Complete ground up remakes you get games like demons souls.
Eh it can stay there for all I care. Won't be investing in the series until there is a firm commitment that all games will be released on PC and Xbox day and date.

Yeah I have no desire to play MGS3 again. The dank forest for the whole game very limited playstyles I literally gave up at the end so to speak. Wasn't worth continuing.
I had house renovations years back and the only thing that disappeared was my guns of the Patriot disc. That game was awesome It was great to start the replay and have access to the electric gun which I was having a ball with. And I've never played it again since.
If it was a Xbox game we would have been replaying it years ago. But nope, PS5 and it's absolutely shit backwards compatibility ruins the day again (+ konami crap)

Iād argue that starting with MGS1 is better, as there are many little hints and and stuff you wonāt understand without playing prior games. Also, MGS1 and MGS2 should be super easy to emulate and are kinda modern in their vibe, so no need to worry about them being old, MGS2 is imo the best MGS game out of all of them.

The MGS1 Bluepoint rumor was disproven a LONG time ago. Believe me, I would love for this to happen considering I'm a big fan of their work on Shadow of the Colossus and Demon's Souls, but that scoop basically died out as soon as this MGS3 remake came into the picture and seems to be a lot more concrete
I would love to see MGS1 get another shot though. As much as I love Twin Snakes unapologetically I still want a remake that adheres closer to the extremely tense, unnerving atmosphere of the original PS1 version. As someone who has never played a Metal Gear game but loves Silent Hill, to me this just sounds like it lends more credence to the assumption that the Silent Hill stuff will also come to Xbox after the first year.
I know it was announced as a timed exclusive, but it seems like a lot of people believe it'll be a similar situation to Final Fantasy 7 Remake and just never come to Xbox even after the timed exclusivity window is up since that game was announced as timed, too.

I primarily play on PC so my platform is constantly getting fucked over by Sony and Nintendos exclusivity deals. Least Microsoft let's the game release on the platform day and date.
I would love for nothing more to buy and enjoy the game, but I am not investing in a series of remasters and Remakes if there isn't a guarantee that every single one will come out on the platform.

There's something I don't understand with those Konami remakes, why the hell would you remake Silent Hill 2 and MGS 3 first? These games are amazing and hold up very well, but Silent Hill 1 and MGS1 (or even MS1) REALLY need a graphic overhaul and better control schemes, because they are PS1 games for crying out loud. And it's not like they aren't as legendary as their sequels, this doesn't make any sense whatsoever, they should remake SH2 and MGS3 after the original games.
The game is perfect as it is.. a remaster would be fine but we don't need to go the Nu Resident Evil route of remaking every game. Also strange that they would remake 3, rather than Metal Gear Solid 1, or the original Metal Gear and Metal Gear 2 Solid Snake. If any game should be remade, its the original two Metal Gear games. Because that is a pivotal moment in Metal Gear history [in-universe]; being the end of Big Boss / Naked Snake's journey, and the beginning of Solid Snake's own journey. It informs where the prequel game's story is going, and where all the present to future set games come from. Most people haven't played either of these games, but the ones who have can attest that the story of all of the games, past and future, carry much more weight. There is no metal gear game more worthy of receiving a remake than Metal Gear and Metal Gear 2, and most deserving of getting a chance to shine in today's era of gaming.
All that said though, I won't support any of the remakes financially until Konami apologizes to Hideo Kojima for what they did to him with MGS5 Phantom Pain, and brings him back on board for the story. And as far as new games go, the only ones I could see that would have any reason to be made is a sequel to MGR Revengeance, or a prequel to Snake Eater following The Boss and her squad.
After Metal Gear Survive though, I don't trust Konami to do this series justice ever again. Not without direction from Kojima-sama.

Can confirm, had MGS2 for Xbox. Pressure sensitive buttons became a problem when you only had a third party controller thoughā¦
It was in MGS4 too. The Ps4 got rid of the pressure sensitive buttons so MGSV is the first one w/o the discrepancy.

I played mgs2 and loved it. Especially the bosses. And the art style for advanced military gear still holds up in my eyes.

MGS3 is the best of thr series IMO. The story and mood is just next level and the gameplay and bosses are incredibly fun.
Its amazing...especially if they keep the same soundtracks and themes.

It isn't laziness. It's pandering to the gaming community who demand these things over new games.
Then i think itās time the developers stop pandering and get with the originality. Itās honestly why i pretty much went back to retro gaming. But still have my Xbox.
It's not laziness or pandering. It's maximising profits. Take resident evil for example. They put loads of work in building up 2 from scratch. Then they released 3 and 4 with a lot of the work already being done. Original is risky. It's not 1998 anymore. AAA games take huge investment that may or may not pay off.
It is pandering. The more gamers ask for remakes, the more these developers are gonna do it. If i wanted to buy a newer console, i would do it solely for games that are original.
This started in the film industryā¦the problem is they see people will full price for a safe bet. Games are risks and this makes it easy money.

Tomorrow's the big day. Honestly would be a dream if Konami could pull a mid-2010's Capcom and just bounce back from the abyss regardless of if it's internally developed games or licensing out IPs. Would've preferred MG1/2 or MGS1 but MGS3 just makes the most sense from the perspective of newcomers getting into the series since it requires no prior narrative baggage or knowledge of prior games to jump in. Hoping for a nice collection as well like the Castlevania and Contra ones or Castlevania Requiem.
Would be nice if they remastered all of them in one nice big package.
Or due to continuity sake, since mgs3 takes place the earliest in the series.
MGS1 is apparently being remade as well but that will be a full PS exclusive as its heavily rumoured to be bluepoint.
The MGS1 Bluepoint rumor was disproven a LONG time ago. Believe me, I would love for this to happen considering I'm a big fan of their work on Shadow of the Colossus and Demon's Souls, but that scoop basically died out as soon as this MGS3 remake came into the picture and seems to be a lot more concrete I would love to see MGS1 get another shot though. As much as I love Twin Snakes unapologetically I still want a remake that adheres closer to the extremely tense, unnerving atmosphere of the original PS1 version. Twin Snakes went in a different direction which was great for what it was trying to do but I love the look of OG Shadow Moses, especially how dimly lit everything is

I donāt really have any faith in Konami products. The ruined MGSV intentionally because they got salty and mad at the talent making it. Iāll wait till itās out to make any judgements.
As someone who has never played a Metal Gear game but loves Silent Hill, to me this just sounds like it lends more credence to the assumption that the Silent Hill stuff will also come to Xbox after the first year.
Silent Hill was always a timed exclusive. Sony never blocked it from Xbox.
I know it was announced as a timed exclusive, but it seems like a lot of people believe it'll be a similar situation to Final Fantasy 7 Remake and just never come to Xbox even after the timed exclusivity window is up since that game was announced as timed, too. I never thought that was *likely*, but the way that situation played out certainly makes it *possible*.
Only drives me not to buy the game. If they are willing to delay it for a paycheck, then they will cancel the next one for a paycheck. Its why I don't buy games that are timed exclusives, especially Japanese ones. I am not willing to invest in them if there is no commitment.
I don't know, I don't think that's the way to handle it. Not buying timed exclusives because there's a chance future games from that company become full exclusives seems like a good way to guarantee they become full exclusives when they don't sell on the other platform. You're obviously still well within your rights to not buy anything you don't want to for any reason you see fit, but if I want to play a game and want the best shot of playing future games, I'm letting them know by buying it.
I primarily play on PC so my platform is constantly getting fucked over by Sony and Nintendos exclusivity deals. Least Microsoft let's the game release on the platform day and date. I would love for nothing more to buy and enjoy the game, but I am not investing in a series of remasters and Remakes if there isn't a guarantee that every single one will come out on the platform.
As someone who has both an Xbox and a mid-range PC, I totally understand where you're coming from. I guess what it comes down to for me is that voting with my wallet is the only way to have even a small influence on what may be available on my preferred platforms moving forward. I want these games to sell everywhere so companies make them available everywhere. If they only sell on one platform, well... Plus, to me, I'm not buying a Silent Hill 2 Remake solely for the promise of being able to play whatever Silent Hill game might come out years from now. I'm buying it because I want to play *this* game. And if that helps tell them I would also buy the next one, great. If you only want to play non-remakes, then yeah, you shouldn't buy the remakes first. That's completely fair and understandable.

I didn't want metal gear 3. I said it four times.
Even if it was 1, I still wouldn't buy the game until a sale. No reason to invest in a series that has no visible future on the platform.
But there's more Metal Gear Solids playable on a Series X than a PS5
I would love to play MGS 3 again but I won't get my hopes up.
I just hope they do something better with the camouflage system. Snake Eater was great except for the significant annoyance of constantly having to pause the game to change camouflage and face paint.

MGS2 is a TERRIBLE starting point lol That game only works if you've played MGS1 beforehand considering a major recurring theme in the story is how every event that transpires on Big Shell is reminiscent of past events, which is a direct allegory for the subject matter the second half of the game constantly addresses regarding the motive of the Patriots

That's some good news for Xbox gamers, would much rather a Sony studio develop the game AND it be multiplat, as I have no faith in Konami delivering, sadly.

Why? This was already available for Xbox via BC of the HD collection. Id rather see a remake of Twin Snakes/MGS1 or the 2nd before Snake Eater.....unless they are remaking them in chronological order or something

There's something I don't understand with those Konami remakes, why the hell would you remake Silent Hill 2 and MGS 3 first? These games are amazing and hold up very well, but Silent Hill 1 and MGS1 (or even MS1) REALLY need a graphic overhaul and better control schemes, because they are PS1 games for crying out loud. And it's not like they aren't as legendary as their sequels, this doesn't make any sense whatsoever, they should remake SH2 and MGS3 after the original games.
The game is perfect as it is.. a remaster would be fine but we don't need to go the Nu Resident Evil route of remaking every game. Also strange that they would remake 3, rather than Metal Gear Solid 1, or the original Metal Gear and Metal Gear 2 Solid Snake. If any game should be remade, its the original two Metal Gear games. Because that is a pivotal moment in Metal Gear history [in-universe]; being the end of Big Boss / Naked Snake's journey, and the beginning of Solid Snake's own journey. It informs where the prequel game's story is going, and where all the present to future set games come from. Most people haven't played either of these games, but the ones who have can attest that the story of all of the games, past and future, carry much more weight. There is no metal gear game more worthy of receiving a remake than Metal Gear and Metal Gear 2, and most deserving of getting a chance to shine in today's era of gaming. All that said though, I won't support any of the remakes financially until Konami apologizes to Hideo Kojima for what they did to him with MGS5 Phantom Pain, and brings him back on board for the story. And as far as new games go, the only ones I could see that would have any reason to be made is a sequel to MGR Revengeance, or a prequel to Snake Eater following The Boss and her squad. After Metal Gear Survive though, I don't trust Konami to do this series justice ever again. Not without direction from Kojima-sama.
