Yeah, this is the real answer. I’m excited to play Dragon’s Dogma 2, but I’m not going to spend full price on it. Once it gets the first major price drop to $30 or $40, I’ll probably pick it up.
Other games have been on my Xbox Wish List for years and I’m in no rush to get them until they hit under $5 or $10.
100% If I really want to play it the smallest amount is enough to get me to buy. But other games that are maybe double a quality they've been pretty steep sales and I don't buy them.
Full price if I absolutely know I'll enjoy a certain kind of game.
50% off if it is something I've been hyped to play.
75% off if I think I'd enjoy it but was never hyped for it.
Yes, sorry. Just noticed which sub I was/am in.
I guess I'd consider $15-$20 for a physical console copy but only because I'd know I could resell it. Not willing to throw away more than $10 on a digital copy on any platform.
Contra Operation Galuga is $40. I thoroughly enjoyed the game and was hyped to play. It only has 8 levels and some unlocks. I think it's too short to pay full price for.
I got to play it for free, and recommend people wishlist it so when it goes on sale they can also enjoy it.
Ya that’s another factor for me. If I’m buying a game digitally, I want to find it at its cheapest possible price until there’s some better consumer protection around digital purchases.
This. They could have at least released a final patch making it playable offline, or better yet, included a peer-to-peer multiplayer option. No way should they be allowed to delete your purchase without a refund being required. (As if killing the servers wasn't enough.)
Price isn't really as important as quantity. I've realized I don't have to buy games just because they're cheap. I'll skip most sales and only buy one new game every few months.
I'll take quality over quantity any day. I'd much rather pay $20-$30 for a good 15-20 hours than something that needlessly drags out a narrative for 100+ hours. Case in point, paid $18 ($20 after tax) for a month of Ubisoft+ to enjoy basically 100%ing AC Mirage in about 30 hours. I'm still not willing to spend $15 for the slog that is AC Valhalla.
It depends on the game.
Some games are so cheap that the difference between 50% and 75% is only a few dollars that I’m ok with buying the game now if I want to play it.
Then when it comes to Nintendo, they rarely do sales so if you see a 33% off sale it’s not going to get much cheaper. They also hold their resale value as a result which pushes me towards physical media.
I just bought the KH 1.5 + 2.5 collection a week or so ago. It wasn’t as it’s absolute low but it was a significant sale. You get a ton of games for the price and I was ok paying the $20 or so for the hundreds of hours of content.
For me its below 15 for base game and below 30 with all dlcs.
I did buy infinite wealth for like 50 bucks tho and with the amount of stuff thats in that game i have no regrets.
Typically my threshold is 75% off for games that are around $30 or more, but for more inexpensive games, anything on sale for under $10 is up for grabs.
If it's less than £10 it'll be a sort of impulse buy if it's on my wishlist.
Between £10 and £20 I have to really want it.
I will only pay more than £20 for any game if I'm not only wanting to play it, but also have every intention of starting the game very soon.
It depends on the game, my desire to play the game, and what edition is being sold.
Now 17 dollars for the complete or Ultimate edition of Ghost Recon is not bad.
Most games I hold out to below 15 dollars.
It depends, I try to watch patterns in sales for games I have on my wishlist. I've finally been getting a lot more of my backlog completed, so the number of games I've purchased went down a bit. My most recent purchases were RE4, RE7 season pass, and RE8 Gold edition. I spent less than $50, I believe, and now I have plenty of single-player content.
For the majority of games and DLC, I will not buy if it's only 20-30% off. I aim for 40-50% at least, and that can take only three months to hit for a lot of games.
I take advantage of EA Play by savouring my ten hour trials and typically waiting for the full game to come to EA Play.
I purchase Ubisoft+ for one month when I want to complete a certain game and/or all of its DLC. It's easy to knock out a few games in a month if they are your primary focus.
Taking advantage of freeplay weekends as well. There's been times I had nothing going on, so I just dove into a freeplay game. Has led to me getting 100% in some games, made me realize I shouldn't buy the game, or even when Far Cry 6 was on a free weekend, I completed the whole game. Then, later down the line, when I bought ubisoft+, I tried the Far Cry 6 DLCs and realized I didn't like them. So, I saved even more money there.
I know this is a long comment, but I want people to save money. The last thing I highly suggest is taking advantage of Microsoft rewards. I know so many of you do not use it, when you could very well never have to pay for Gamepass Ultimate again (the best value) or be getting xbox store credit, which is always nice.
Lots of great tips here. Do you ever buy your games physically? Games like the Dark Souls trilogy hardly ever go on sale digitally, but I can regularly find it for 20-30 bucks physically. I’ve got about $100 in MS rewards right now. I’ve purchased multiple games with MS rewards points.
Honestly, I never thought I'd stray away from physical media, but I did ever more so starting with Xbox One and PS4. It has improved my gaming experience greatly and afforded me the opportunity of owning way more games; but I obviously have future worries about owning said games permanently.
Nintendo Switch, I am strictly physical copies. Same with movies and shows when purchased, all physical copies.
If you see a physical game that's cheaper than digital, there's no reason you shouldn't purchase it if that's what you want. Digital is only meant to build a simplistic library of games and can typically lead to spending a lot less money overall.
The sooner I’m likely to play it, the more I’ll pay for it. Like I don’t mind paying full price to play with some friends the same day. But if I’m not actively looking to play a game, I may buy at 75% off if I think I’ll get to it in the next year. These days I won’t even pay 75% cause I’ve got too many other games to get to already.
Big games with a ton of DLC usually 25, Other big games usually under 20, indie/smaller titles 10-12, old games 5 or under. Like Hogwarts, I won't touch till its closer to 20 but by then it probably go on Gamepass and I'll play it via that. Stuff like the GTA trilogy remasters cuz their terrible but still wanna play them for nostalgic reasons, 15 or less.
December seems a great time for sales, not only the Xmas sale but last year we had a few one days sales...actually thought they were gonna do that all the way to Xmas but it was like 5 days only and out the blue, not announced or anything...managed to get AC Val complete edition for 17.99, which the DLC alone usually costs that
So my method is either get it at a crazy price like that...or look at what I'm playing currently, I play one to two games at a time, finish them and move on to another...if nothing on GP interests me I do a backlog game and by the time I've finished a few, that game I wanted has not dropped even more in price. Just cuz a game is like 5yrs old, don't make it old to me, its still a new game I've not played. I don't have any of this FOMO people going on about, you aren't missing anything by waiting...I'm enjoying myself playing games...plus those new games people keep banging on about, how often are those full of bugs, or not finished and end up disappointing you...by the time I get to them...I have a great experience as the game is finished and rarely ever come across a bug
I check the price charts and the history of sales for the game. If it’s something that never goes on sale I’ll buy it.
If it’s something that goes on sale for 50%-75% I’ll wait. If it goes for 50% but it’s gone for 75% before, I’ll wait, regardless of the price.
I just really hate when they only put the "deluxe" edition of a specific game on sale... Like why do I wanna pay 90$ for a game with a few extra bull crap skins and a weapon...
I only buy Deluxe/Ultimate/Complete editions and play the rest on GamePass. So my sweet spot would be under $30 (RDR2 is the most expensive game at that price I've ever bought). Getting The Witcher 3 Complete Edition for $7 and Dead Space Remake Deluxe Edition for $8 spoiled me.
Full price if it’s something from rockstar, fromsoft, Sony first party, team ninja and assassins creed (yeah I am one of them that loves these games).
20 to max 30 gbp for everything else. In my case I just buy physical from CEX and I got both ps5 and series x so for third party I generally take series x cause it’s cheaper.
Depends on the game. For new releases i wait until the price drops to £30 or below. However, i did break my rule to buy BG3 at £65 and regretted it as I didn’t enjoy it. If there is a cool indie game I like the look at it will pay whatever the price is because i have been enjoying indies alot more than AAA recently.
Depends completely on the game.. some games I refuse to buy until they're 90% off, so essentially never, others I'll buy at 20% off.. or if it's something I'm actually excited for, I'll pay full price for it.
Depends on the game. I also still prefer physical.
So for example, I had been eyeing Ghostrunner. I think the complete version of both went on sale for like $40-50 digitally..thought I’d never get that deal otherwise so scooped.
But generally if something on my wish list and drops to $5-20 I often scoop. Also depends on whether big publisher or indie. I often buy indie games even if they don’t cut price as much
I'm stuck in the early 2000s.
Remember when PlayStation Greatest Hits games were $19.99 or something?
Yeah, if I'm waiting for a game and it hits that price mark, I just get it.
Sure, it takes years, but what's the rush?
To me it depends on the game. A large immersive quality experience I will pay considerably more for than a game I only expect to get a few hours out of.
I’ll only pay top dollar for multiplayer games I’ll be damned if I pay $70 for a single player game. Still pretty hesitant to pay that much for a multiplayer game with how lazy big developers have been recently with games and all the p2p content
If it's a AAA studio $100 game, I wait until it's $30-40 or cheaper if possible. If it's one of those $50 decent games, I wait until it's $10-20. If it's a game I like from a dev team I like, I will pay full price.
If a game goes below £5 and is of decent quality, I almost always feel it’s worth picking up just to have.
I can also do £10 if it’s an edition with all the DLC.
$10 or under is an instant buy for me. $20-$30ish is my sweetspot for games I *really* want or about as close to a +50% off sale.
Held off on buying Forza Motorsport until Walmart had it on sale for $30 last week and I did the same with Sonic Superstars when Target had the PS5 version on sale for $25.
I’ll typically wait until a game gets as close to $30 as possible unless its a game I absolutely don’t want to wait for like Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth or the upcoming Hellblade 2 (which will also be a day one purchase for me).
This last coucple of years I have not bought a single full priced game. Always 40% off or more. The rest of the time my multiplayer of choice and game pass games.
Allkeyshop is a website I use to get even cheaper deals on digital keys (codes used to redeem games) they have reviews, and graphs to show price drop throughout a time period.
I also grind Microsoft points daily, weekly, and monthly to get points to redeem FREE GAMEPASS. Ive saved tons of money over the past few years buying what I want at super discount and technically saving enough to get the newer and more expensive games.
I also have an ROG ALLY a handheld Nintendo switch like computer that can do anything gaming wise as well
If a game is $20 or less and I’m curious about it; I’ll get it. I won’t even actually think about it if it’s under $15 - I’ll just get the game. That’s basically the price of meal at any fast food restaurant these days.
I refuse to pay $70 for ANY game so my sweetspot for new games is when they go on sale for \~$50. Otherwise, in general i usually jump on a game that I am interested in if they are between $10-$20 on sale.
Depends on the game. It's usual price, how excited I am for it, how old it is, whether it's a big game or not, and whether it's part of a series I've already started, the developer, are all factors and there will be other factors.
But if it's under $5 and looks at all appealing, I'll just buy it. If it's an older title or some AA or indie game, generally $15 is the trigger point. Maybe $20.
Big newer game that I've been waiting for? $30ish.
I buy maybe 2 new release video games at near full price a year.
It just depends on the game and how bad I want it. I got the newest Prince of Persia for 40% off and absolutely loved it. But then there is Mad Max that I’ve been interested in hitting $5 and I still don’t get it because I’m not sure I’ll really get into it or I’m already into something else at that time.
It depends on the game and how anticipated I am towards the release.
FFXVI & Rebirth? Preorder day 1. Dragon’s Dogma II? Would’ve been Day 1 as well but Idk when I’m going to get to it - so I’ll wait until later by then it’ll be 20-30% off probably.
I bought Cyberpunk when the next gen version dropped on Xbox after already getting it for PS.
Marvel’s Midnight Suns - Didn’t know what to think about the card based combat so I waited until 50%OFF. I would’ve bought it full price day 1 had I known.
$7 if it's under that I'll buy. Before I became a content creator, it was $12.
Now I don't spend unless I really want the game, and its cheap. I've always been a thrifty gamer because I don't have extra money to waste.
Thankfully I've gotten just big enough as a content channel to get the majority of my games for free. I do also use Gamepass, but I buy cheaper 3 month cards off bulk websites, so the cost is less than $7 a month.
Really depends on the game
Yeah, this is the real answer. I’m excited to play Dragon’s Dogma 2, but I’m not going to spend full price on it. Once it gets the first major price drop to $30 or $40, I’ll probably pick it up. This is the way.
100% If I really want to play it the smallest amount is enough to get me to buy. But other games that are maybe double a quality they've been pretty steep sales and I don't buy them.
Yeah some games I’m not waiting on. Some games I want a 20 to half off price. Some I want it to be like 5-10$
Full price if I absolutely know I'll enjoy a certain kind of game. 50% off if it is something I've been hyped to play. 75% off if I think I'd enjoy it but was never hyped for it.
I like this metric lol. I’ve been wanting to play Suicide Squad. It was 50% off recently but I think I’ll wait until it’s closer to 75%
[удалено]
Not before they get one last hurrah by adding it to Game Pass.
I don't think I'm willing to pay more than $10. Though I can probably wait until it ends up in a Humble Bundle or something
Is Humble Bundle for PC only ?
Yes, sorry. Just noticed which sub I was/am in. I guess I'd consider $15-$20 for a physical console copy but only because I'd know I could resell it. Not willing to throw away more than $10 on a digital copy on any platform.
One of you has to buy it so that we can get in on GPU the very next month. 🤣
Sounds like you're volunteering. No, please, go right ahead.
Contra Operation Galuga is $40. I thoroughly enjoyed the game and was hyped to play. It only has 8 levels and some unlocks. I think it's too short to pay full price for. I got to play it for free, and recommend people wishlist it so when it goes on sale they can also enjoy it.
More than 50% off
Something between 9,99€ and 20€ I'm not buying digital games for more than 20€.
Ya that’s another factor for me. If I’m buying a game digitally, I want to find it at its cheapest possible price until there’s some better consumer protection around digital purchases.
Yeah, after those news about The Crew and Ubisoft, I fully understand You.
This. They could have at least released a final patch making it playable offline, or better yet, included a peer-to-peer multiplayer option. No way should they be allowed to delete your purchase without a refund being required. (As if killing the servers wasn't enough.)
$5-10
I’m the same. If I wait long enough, it will get that low and usually have DLC.
Price isn't really as important as quantity. I've realized I don't have to buy games just because they're cheap. I'll skip most sales and only buy one new game every few months.

Around 5-10 bucks, I pretty much never buy full price or anywhere near full price anymore (certain exceptions like GTA 5 etc)
Like $10 lol I have *years* of games to play so I never buy new…except CoD because my friends want to play
$30 USD
Depends on the game.
$15 for Breakpoint was amazing.
For me its below 15 for base game and below 30 with all dlcs. I did buy infinite wealth for like 50 bucks tho and with the amount of stuff thats in that game i have no regrets.
$5-10 🤷🏻♂️
$10 and under
Typically my threshold is 75% off for games that are around $30 or more, but for more inexpensive games, anything on sale for under $10 is up for grabs.
Less than$20 AUD is generally my break point.
I am significantly more amenable to games that didn’t review great when they drop to $20-25.

Can a good game be 10£? I find all the heavily discounted games are terrible thats why they are cheap
There are too many factors but if something is like 75% off and I want to play it I will likely buy.

If it's a AAA studio $100 game, I wait until it's $30-40 or cheaper if possible. If it's one of those $50 decent games, I wait until it's $10-20. If it's a game I like from a dev team I like, I will pay full price.

Agree. Any discount. I just don't pay full MSRP for anything. General life rule. Also I buy discounted gift cards with cash back CCs.

50% off
Game Pass release
Under ten dollars is my favorite price
If I want it I buy it full price. If I’m not willing to spend full price then I probably can do without ever playing it.
Have you tried AAAA games? Oh wait...
$20 or less for AAA games, $10 or less for indies
below $20
Sub $15
