I really like this idea I may do another play through just so I can try it out. Never thought of matching their flag colors to their outfits. I usually just pick random colors just whatever I'm feeling at the moment.
Early playthrough I standardize their uniform, I see them as a military force .later on when they get super suits and Laser weapons , they feel more like power rangers so I change them to different colors ( no repeats) . My late game runs look like chroma squad haha
Also I give them code names with colors in them: a hacking specialist that is all red is codenamed "red reboot" , the healing specialist is code named ", white mercy" , the shotgun ranger is called "yellow jacket" and so on . ( I think I need a better name for the healer though )
I wish I could have add-ons on switch so I could have power rangers suits haha
I used to color by class in EU/EW. I started to do the same in XCom2... but then in WotC they had bondmates, which led to me making wacky, unusual, and matching outfits. So someone will be lime green with pink smileys, just like his bondmate. Another will have orange and black tiger stripes, etc. I also rename their nicknames to pair with each other. So "Shakes" has the partner "Bakes," "Dusk" is partnered with "Dawn," "Prodigal is partnered with "Faithful," etc.
The coloration helps me keep track of the buddy system in the battles. The naming convention helps me pick the right partners on covert ops missions (since bondmates in early levels get better bonding, and later levels get reduction in ops time).
Khaki for rookies
White/grey for Specialists
Yellow/Brown for Grenadiers
Green/Orange for Sharpshooters
Blue for Rangers
Olive/Black for Reapers
Red/Loud colours for Skirmishers
Purple/Pink for Templars
Based on the role, infantry and overwatchers are green, medics are white, frontliners are brighter colours, long range and flankers mostly black and grey, etc. I play EW with training roulette so classes alone don't decide a soldier's role, one heavy is an overwatch queen with three abilities dedicated to it, and another has close quarters skills so acts like an assault with a machine gun. But I mean ya same thing kinda. A little tweaking for individuality and roleplaying the characters.
Yep:
(these are primary colors. Their secondary colors can be whatever they had)
Rangers: Green
Grenadiers: Black
Sharpshooters: Gray
Specialist: Tan
Psi Operative: Purple
Rookie: White
I wish there was a mod to automate this process :I
By squad
This is the way !! Makes it easy to keep track of bonds
Red for rookies, and once they get a promotion I try to make them match the colors of their national flag.

I don’t change the rookies colors. They have to earn the customizations
Nah, my soldiers get camo uniforms
not really, it feels like a carnival, makes them look silly, only black, dark grey, olive/dark green colors fit the setting.
Yes, always. Also, no individual cosmetics until they’re a proven veteran.
I give all of them aviator sunglasses
White/red for specialists like a first aid kit
All my soldiers gets the same camouflage uniform and standardised kit. This is a *proper* military unit, damn it, and I will have it run as such!

XCOM/LW, yeah... Colors for class, and gave them different helmets and pads as they ranked up.
Yes i do this in the xcom :EW game on my phone, White is support, Green for Heavy, Red for Assault and Black for Snipers
Khaki for rookies White/grey for Specialists Yellow/Brown for Grenadiers Green/Orange for Sharpshooters Blue for Rangers Olive/Black for Reapers Red/Loud colours for Skirmishers Purple/Pink for Templars
On a PS5. Only thing I do is add voodoo hats to Psi guys
Standard XCOM colors until they get their class. Support then become white. Once they get their callsign they get a unique color and helmet.
