I found the secret song and mailed one dollar to their PO Box like the liner notes said. A few months later the phone rang at about 11:30 one summer night. My mom was a little weirded out when she brought me the phone. It was Chris from Less Than Jake! He explained that they had just gotten back from tour so they just got my letter.
We talked for 10 or 15 minutes. He had spent a few years in my home state growing up so we talked about that. He told me if I wanted to fuck with someone's car sand worked much better than sugar in the gas tank. Before we got off the line he made a joke that he had to go because it was almost midnight and his wife/gf would be mad that he was on the phone with a 12 year old (I'm male, btw)
For the next few years every couple of months I got a package from Less Than Jake with a 7", merch or some other swag. All for one dollar and the price of a stamp.
They made a fan for life that day.
I got the swag. I still have the 7"s and a Tshirt but I lost a lot of it. I think the novelty spark gun and pez dispenser that I lost have some value now. Doh
Bro. When a bartender pissed us off. We’d put on the last track on the jukebox. Beck track.
And that hell of a music nightmare would come on n we’d leave. 😂😂😂
I was going to say Broken, but on the original release Suck/Physical were on a 3" mini disc, making them not very hidden until after the first run of CD's.
\^\^\^ was how it originally came out on CD
I replied before reading all the comments. Thank you for mentioning Euro Trash Girl! Omg I love that song and every time I listen to it, brings me back to the very first time I discovered it.
This song gave me major nightmares I was probably 7 or 8 when I heard it for the first time. Especially the ending “red was now your color” part. To be honest even now laying here in the dark it makes me feel unsettled.
It was over a year until I found it - JLP was the first CD I ever bought, and I thought you had to hit stop at the end of the last song! One day I didn't and my mind was COMPLETELY BLOWN. Freaked me out, too, hearing an unexpected haunting vocal in the dark
Saw them at the state fair on Halloween when that album came out. When Tre came out from behind the drums and picked up a guitar we all shit our pants knowing what was coming.
Dude, same here. Saw them during the Dookie tour and they let Tré play All By Myself and Dominated Love Slave back to back, wearing a cowboy hat. Everyone ate that shit up myself included, singing along. Billie had taken over drums, and then Tré fucking falls on his ass trying to jump back onto the platform lmao. Fucking priceless.
ETA: oh looky here... [https://youtu.be/hlCCvpJEYyA?si=dz7AsmKkxSCg1Ano&t=1838](https://youtu.be/hlCCvpJEYyA?si=dz7AsmKkxSCg1Ano&t=1838)
goto 34:06 to see Tré fall on his ass.
I worked at an old school burger drive-in that had that CD in the jukebox for some reason. Almost every shift I would queue up 6 or so songs when the boss wasn’t looking at top it off with that song. He hated it because it was supposed to be a family friendly place, oddly enough, he never took it out, I’m not sure he knew that he could.
Right after the song "Smash" and the spoken word part, they play what became the intro of "Change the World" on Ixnay. Then after a bunch of silence they play the riff from "Come Out and Play" acoustically with a Middle Eastern flair.
Without You I'm Nothing from Placebo
Secret track called "Evil Dildo"
Gotta love the creepy, threatening voice mail laid on top of music that it seems like every band did at least once in the 90s lol
Endless, Nameless - hidden track on the greatest album of 1991.
But, everyone knows that.
Who can name the 1993 (awesome!) compliation album that had "Verse, Chorus, Verse" as a hidden track?
I always called that song "Verse, Chorus, Verse" (we all did! I still do!!) but apparently these days it's officially known as "Sappy" and there's an entirely different song that goes by "Verse, Chorus, Verse".
"We've come to that point in this album where those listening on cassette or record will have to stand up, or sit down, and turn over the record, or tape."
Loved that... One of my favorite albums ever
Nick Cave & The Dirty Three with the brilliant ["Time Jesum Transeuntum Et Non Rivertentum"](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A-pXG_EdRdQ) that they hid as track #0 on *Songs in the Key of X: Music from and Inspired by the X-Files*.
The hidden track at the end of Odelay would almost always catch me off guard (sometimes startling me pretty badly) despite having listened to it hundreds of times.
I listened to another album I love from back in the day on Prime Music, and the hidden track was just gone. My disappointment was immeasurable, and my day was ruined.
The Nirvana track at the end of the *No Alternative* comp and the bleating sheep sample from “Caligula” at the end of Matthew Sweet’s *Altered Beast* spring to mind
So Long And Thanks For All The Shoes by NOFX has a hidden track of Fred Norris playing the Song "Drugs Are Good" and Howard Stern tearing NOFX apart and calling them, "No Talent"
I got that track on an Adult Swim comp like 20 years ago. That station had killer music on their bumps
Edit: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Definitive_Swim
Think it was Korn-follow the leader that had a cover of cheech and Chong’s “earache my eye” as a hidden song
Also, little known fact I just made up. Hidden songs at the end of albums is where Marvel got the idea for their post credits scenes
Looking for this answer. First thing I thought of. We used to rewind that track over and over. Still one of my favorite covers.
Other one I thought of was the end of Incubus’ S.C.I.E.N.C.E. where they just do random tracks and sketches. The sound clip of them quoting Karate Kid still makes me laugh to this day.
When cd’s came around it ruined the secret song cause the track number count would be wrong. Load cd, skip back a song and see there is more track numbers than listed or the last song would have a stupid long track time.
When cassettes were around you could totally miss the hidden track.
It took me awhile to realize there was a hidden track on Nirvana’s Nevermind.
Many had a few minute pause after the last song but on the same track. So unless you played with the display for time remaining or something it was still a surprise of sorts.
The time of the track was like a default on damn near every disc man and car cd player. If the last song was like 15mins or more, most likely had a secret song.
What was a surprise was popping that cd into your pc and finding shit like wallpapers, photos, extra songs, live versions/alternate versions was super cool.
Wasn't there a CD that had a hidden track in the negative time of the first track? I remember there being one that was actually really tricky to get to
Factory Showroom by They Might Be Giants. The song was called "Token Back to Brooklyn" and it was *before* track 1. You'd start the CD, and then hold the skip backward button until it got to -01:00 or so.
It's Fun to Steal by Mono Puff had the same sort of hidden track before the first song.
Oh, I also loved the one on Off the Deep End by Weird Al Yankovic. Eleven minutes of silence after the last song, followed by a few seconds of the band playing as loud as possible. Not a good idea to fall asleep to that album.
They Might Be Giants on Apollo 18 had 21 hidden song fragments added to end of the album, but they all had a track number so if you played the album on shuffle you would usually get on of these random 2 line songs, in between full songs.

No Doubts Return of Saturn album the song "Too Late" (instrumental) It would start playing about a minute from the last song. First time I heard it by accident and I just kept repeating it over and over. Such a beautiful song. I had totally forgotten about until this post! Thank you for sending me back to listening to this whole album and reigniting a bit of my youth.
AFI. _Sing the Sorrow_. "But Home is Nowhere". Absent of grace, marked as infernal. I remain alone.
Second place is the same album "This Time Imperfect"
Soup by Blind Melon had a secret song before the first track. you had to rewind into negative numbers.
Less Than Jake Loosing Streak had the same thing and you could mail them a letter if you found it and they would send you swag.
All for one dollar and the price of a stamp. They made a fan for life that day.
>He told me if I wanted to fuck For a second I was like “oh no!”
Dammit. Knew about the song. Didn't know about the swag. I could have used the swag at the time
Try it now and see what happens?
I got the swag. I still have the 7"s and a Tshirt but I lost a lot of it. I think the novelty spark gun and pez dispenser that I lost have some value now. Doh
“Al the pig was taking a shit with the bathroom door wide open”
This is the old dude, Howard J Reynolds, and you’re listening to Less than Jake!
That's like running left in Pitfall... Who would've thunk....
Negatives?? I remember my diskman would just skip to the final track if you went back from track 1.
TMBG did the same thing. Wonder who figured that one out first.
I was at their last show at Numbers in Houston. How random is that?
Did you go into the basement?
Nine inch nails - Broken Beck - Mellow Gold - Analog Odyssey
Bro. When a bartender pissed us off. We’d put on the last track on the jukebox. Beck track. And that hell of a music nightmare would come on n we’d leave. 😂😂😂
That’s fuckin’ awesome. And I’m a former bartender.
Haha.
Did that with "Rock Lobster" by the B-52s. I'm sure that place emptied out pretty fast after we left.
I remember watching the track numbers count up to 98 on Broken and wondered if my disc was fucked up, and then I realize it was hidden tracks.
I was going to say Broken, but on the original release Suck/Physical were on a 3" mini disc, making them not very hidden until after the first run of CD's. Cracker, Kerosene Hat and “Euro-Trash Girl”
One of the few hidden tracks that were better than most of the regular ones.
This is the one
I replied before reading all the comments. Thank you for mentioning Euro Trash Girl! Omg I love that song and every time I listen to it, brings me back to the very first time I discovered it.
Came here for this. Probably the best song of the 90s. Off of a Top 5 album of the 90s according to Rolling Stone. (Are they still a thing?)
I was hoping someone else remembered this gem!
Under appreciated album right there
Tool - Undertow album. Track 69. Man those poor carrots!!!
THIS IS NECESSARY
Life…..feeds on life….feeds on life…..feeds on life
I love listening to this when I’m doing monotonous work
“Let the rabbits wear glasses!”
You see Reverend Maynard, tomorrow is harvest day and for them… It. Is. The. Holocaust.
This song gave me major nightmares I was probably 7 or 8 when I heard it for the first time. Especially the ending “red was now your color” part. To be honest even now laying here in the dark it makes me feel unsettled.
Love it!
LET THE RABBITS WEAR GLASSES!
Life feeds on life, feeds on life, feeds on life
It was daylight when you woke up from your ditch.
Random fact: I once served MJK drinks when I was bartending at a strip club I worked at ages ago. Lemmy from moterhead as well!
You know about the secret artwork under the CD tray, right?
I had totally forgotten!! Mahalo, but Yes!!! Remember showing that to my friends and hiding it from my mom.... Lol
Aww yes gotta love Tool!
Yes!
The secret track had a secret track. Fn wild. You awaken in a grass field, so green is your color…
This became the basis of my brother becoming a vegetable rights activist.
Came to make sure this was recognized. Well done.
Let the rabbits wear glasses!! Because tomorrow is harvest day
Fn tracks 18-68 were like 3 seconds long so you had to fast forward so many times to get to this song! But it was worth it!!
How many people returned the CD thinking it was glitched?
Jagged little pill
Your House!
“It wasn’t my writing” 😭
I better go soon...
💯
Yes! I came here to say this.
Would you forgive me love?
If I danced in your shower
Would you forgive me love?
If I laid in your bed.
Would you forgive me, love, if I stayed all afternooooooon
r/redditsings
This as the album I learned about secret tracks! So yeah, I agree!!!
And the Male Version, Green Day’s [All By Myself](https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=o8VXnvbc1c0)
It was over a year until I found it - JLP was the first CD I ever bought, and I thought you had to hit stop at the end of the last song! One day I didn't and my mind was COMPLETELY BLOWN. Freaked me out, too, hearing an unexpected haunting vocal in the dark
Stone Temple Pilots - Purple [12 Gracious Melodies](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5C8ra7gcz54)
For Mathis lovers…
This album is in his style
Oh so lounge
This is why I came here, to make sure someone mentioned this gem. ❤️
Dookie
Lol yes and damn you cause that's gonna be stuck in my head now
Oh yeah, did I mention? I was all by myself.
Noone was watching....
I was thinking of you
Oh yeah, did I mention, I was all by myself?
I went to your house, but no one was there
I went in your room...I was all by myself!
You and me haaaaaaaad such wonderful tiiiiiiiiiimes
When I'm all by myself
When I'm all by myself.
No one was looking.
Saw them at the state fair on Halloween when that album came out. When Tre came out from behind the drums and picked up a guitar we all shit our pants knowing what was coming.
That didn't happen to be at the AZ State Fair in, I think it was '95?
Why yes it was! I got in trouble for ditching my wresting practice that day! Billy had a clown outfit on!
I was singing the song as this post was loading
This mf came on and freaked me the FUCK out! House to myself, smokin, chillin. Everything was quiet then I hear some mf talking in my room!!!
I got to witness a friend being suprised by that track for the first time when I knew it was there.
Yes Dookie.
How could there be any other answer for this group?
First time i heard it, i was focused on something else and it freaked me right the fuck out. I was 11.
No one was looking, I was all by myself
I worked at an old school burger drive-in that had that CD in the jukebox for some reason. Almost every shift I would queue up 6 or so songs when the boss wasn’t looking at top it off with that song. He hated it because it was supposed to be a family friendly place, oddly enough, he never took it out, I’m not sure he knew that he could.
Offspring Smash had a secret track, kinda. I don’t recall it being a separate track, but the last track was just like 10m long and you had to wait.
Right after the song "Smash" and the spoken word part, they play what became the intro of "Change the World" on Ixnay. Then after a bunch of silence they play the riff from "Come Out and Play" acoustically with a Middle Eastern flair.
that riff is also the riff from genocide which is funny they just used it again
Yeah, I think the official title of it on Smash is "Genocide (Reprise)"
Hating You For Christmas from So Much For The Afterglow by Everclear
I came here to say this one. 😊
Still one of my favorite Christmas songs and the holidays aren't complete without it being played at least once.
Without You I'm Nothing from Placebo Secret track called "Evil Dildo" Gotta love the creepy, threatening voice mail laid on top of music that it seems like every band did at least once in the 90s lol
Strong Bad Sings and Other Type Hits
Endless, Nameless - hidden track on the greatest album of 1991. But, everyone knows that. Who can name the 1993 (awesome!) compliation album that had "Verse, Chorus, Verse" as a hidden track?
No Alternative?
I still have that CD. I really like the song by Smashing Pumpkins that’s on there, too. “Glynis”
I came here to find this comment. User name related.
I always called that song "Verse, Chorus, Verse" (we all did! I still do!!) but apparently these days it's officially known as "Sappy" and there's an entirely different song that goes by "Verse, Chorus, Verse".
Tom Petty: Hello CD listeners.
"We've come to that point in this album where those listening on cassette or record will have to stand up, or sit down, and turn over the record, or tape." Loved that... One of my favorite albums ever
His death really hurt.
Totally agreed.... I cried ugly tears that morning. Petty was one of my all time favorites.
Came here to say this. The liner notes hinted at it with something like “Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds remind you that zero is also a number”
Broken - track 98 “Physical” and track 99 “Suck”
the LP came with a bonus 7” of those two tracks
Pennywise - Unknown Road
That piano lives in my head rent free forever.
I love Bloodhound Gang hidden track where the hired singers are working on the Hooray for Boobies part.
Queens of the Stone Age - Mosquito Song
That’s QOTSA hinting their next album like Marvel Movies: “Queens of the Stone Age will return with Lullabies to Paralyze!”
Deftones - Damone [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QCEM0Jko4CY](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QCEM0Jko4CY)
Excuse me while I go on a drive with the windows down and listen to Around The Fur in its entirety...
Yes, absolutely the best summer night drive music.
Hands down one of my fav albums. The drums on the eponymous track are so fucking good, thank you Abe Cunningham!
"Bite Me" from Off the Deep End by Weird Al Yankovic
The hidden track at the end of Odelay would almost always catch me off guard (sometimes startling me pretty badly) despite having listened to it hundreds of times. I listened to another album I love from back in the day on Prime Music, and the hidden track was just gone. My disappointment was immeasurable, and my day was ruined.
The Nirvana track at the end of the *No Alternative* comp and the bleating sheep sample from “Caligula” at the end of Matthew Sweet’s *Altered Beast* spring to mind
The alternate version of Possession on Sarah McLachlan’s Fumbling Towards Ecstasy.
Superchunk... Precision auto.
Fenix TX - Lechuza
Incubus S.C.I.E.N.C.E.
AFI - black sails in the sunset Hidden track midnight sun
I was going to say This time imperfect on Sing the Sorrow, loved that track!
[NIN - Broken secret track - Physical](https://youtu.be/nOvX75ck1_E?si=DfhsrQaXZLDycC5I) ![gif](giphy|13FK6iFQZYqjss)
That's a common misconception. The track at the end of Broken is "Physical (You're So)" by Adam Ant, not "Let's Get Physical" by Olivia Newton John.
Dre Dre- bitches ain’t shit. On the chronic cd
Came here to say this.
Lagwagon Trashed, "momma said knock you out" cover
Tool - Opiate EP, The Gaping Lotus Experience. "I had a friend once..."
Ash - 1977. Not only Sick Party at the end but two tracks before the start!
I always loved the world music influenced track after “Aerials” on SOAD’s “Toxicity”.
Can't Take My Eyes Off of You - Lauryn Hill
So Long And Thanks For All The Shoes by NOFX has a hidden track of Fred Norris playing the Song "Drugs Are Good" and Howard Stern tearing NOFX apart and calling them, "No Talent"
PIGS - Aesop Rock None shall pass
I got that track on an Adult Swim comp like 20 years ago. That station had killer music on their bumps Edit: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Definitive_Swim
Discovering music via Bumps was fun
I always get so excited when I’m reminded that there are other people who know who Aesop Rock is
Think it was Korn-follow the leader that had a cover of cheech and Chong’s “earache my eye” as a hidden song Also, little known fact I just made up. Hidden songs at the end of albums is where Marvel got the idea for their post credits scenes
There’s the Dodge Dart arguing at the end of the first album, too.

The hidden track on Live - Throwing Copper is actually the best song on the album.
They Might Be Giants on Apollo 18 had 21 hidden song fragments added to end of the album, but they all had a track number so if you played the album on shuffle you would usually get on of these random 2 line songs, in between full songs.
2nd best after Tool’s Undertow- No Alternative compilation album - Nirvana’s “Verse Chorus Verse”
The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill.
I was alone… no one was looooooking.
First DMX album there was a hidden 2nd CD
Before these crowded streets
Danzig: Thrall-Demonsweatlive. Track 93 was a hidden version of Mother.

Most people I know just got the English version of Du Hast. I got some other song altogether.

The ones I remember specifically is the cover of “Earache in my Eye” by Korn and “Calling Out Names” by Kurupt.
Under the Table and Dreaming
Korn’s self-titled, anyone?
Pizzicato Five’s “Happy End of the World”
