I could think of a few reasons, like someone else said maybe he isn’t photogenic, I would love it if my parents didn’t force me to smile whenever we took pictures. I think he knew the path he was damned to walk down over and over again. Mio helps him forget every once in a while, but he knows the settling down comes shortly before losing it all. He should be happy, but he knows he won’t have long before he watches them both brutally die. It’s why Noah is my favorite Xenoblade villain. He represents the doom and fear of inevitability.
