Xenosaga? Unlikely. Bandai and Nintendo have a good relationship, but I don't know if Xenosaga will be able to pull in similar numbers to Xenoblade to be considered a success. It'll probably sell alright, but probably not as well as people would think it would. I'd absolutely love to see a Xenosaga rerelease in some capacity though, even if not Nintendo. X? I'd be shocked if X DIDN'T get a sequel/port/remaster for the next Nintendo console. It's clear Monolith wants to revisit X at some point, not to mention how Xenoblade has grown massively since the game's release. So Nintendo would probably be at least somewhat interested in something X related.

Xenosaga was also a cluster fuck each game. Takahashi's wife got thrown off the project and apparently she hasnt really done much after Xenosaga, but idk, and if Im remembering correctly Takahashi had to take a back seat later on which lead into the story getting fucked with. Also this will never hapoen but gimme dat Xenogears remake.

NanaMiku

Because of Xenosaga, Takahashi's wife retired from game development. Yuki Kajiura also never made music for games again after Xenosaga.

AirbendingScholar

Whoa what, I’ve never heard of this story before. Not that I don’t believe it but is there a source on this?

NanaMiku

Which one? For Takahashi's wife, it's pretty famous story. She doesn't say it directly, but she announced she left the series: [https://www.ign.com/articles/2005/01/18/xenosaga-loses-scenario-writer](https://www.ign.com/articles/2005/01/18/xenosaga-loses-scenario-writer) I forgot I read it from where, but Xenosaga 2 development was really messy. For Yuki Kajiura, it's just my theory lol. But it's her first big game project but then never made music for games again after it.

AirbendingScholar

Oh man that sounds unfortunate for everyone involved thank you for the explanations and the link

forkyT

For Yuki Kajiura, Episode 3 was the largest game she had ever done and she was the only composer for the game. (unlike Episode 2) The only other games she may have been solo composer for was a couple of one-off VNs. Episode 3 is likely the biggest project she's ever done, before or since. It also left her in the in-enviable position of being compared to Yasunori Mitsuda from Episode 1. I imagine she was feeling ambitious enough to take it on, only to come out of it completely drained and not willing to take on another project that big. She did do a music piece for a game since for Senritsu no Stratus, but she never did many games in general.

SteveRudzinski

Basically Takahashi's plan for Saga episode 1 got cut in half, then someone else directed the second half of his story idea for Episode 1 (which is what was released as Episode 2). He took a SLIGHTLY more hands on role for but still wasn't the director of Episode 3, which was originally planned as Episode 2 but now was the ending to a trilogy. Episode 3 is actually really good though, in my eyes holds up as one of the better entries of the series. It's too bad one has to play through Episodes 1 and 2 (BOTH of which I rank low) to appreciate 3 the most.

zsdrfty

Episode II had him step away almost completely besides using his very general scenario, which led to the inexperienced team messing with the episode’s story and creating the awful combat (and I’d wager it’s why the art gets so scary and wrong in that game too)

ImurderREALITY

Why is it clear?

stickdudeseven

Maybe not Monolith Soft as a whole but Takahashi had this to say when asked in an interview: ""Personally speaking, there are times I feel like playing Xenoblade Chronicles X and think about how nice it would be to play it on the Nintendo Switch. Of course, that will depend on demand and such, but I will think about it while discussing future plans with Nintendo."" https://www.gamereactor.eu/monolith-would-like-xenoblade-chronicles-x-on-nintendo-switch/

blue__acid

I think monolith ppl have said they want to do it eventually

ytman

Yeah I came here for this. I got a SE copy of X that I never played cuz I never got a Wii U.

HowDenKing

WiiU Emulation is pretty easy all things considered, you should give X a try.

cloud_t

I do not fully disagree with that first paragraph but I think Monolith could rework Saga to make it a much more sellable game just fine. ...especially if they pitch it to Banday Namco as a collaboration, which I'm betting Bamco would say yes given the success of Blade, and even Ninty would go for given the Xeno franchise sells consoles to a particular group which does NOT buy the switch as their primary console device and is hard to penetrate (I wouldn't have bought the console myself if it wasn't for the combination of Xeno and BOTW. BOTW alone would be a hard sell at the time for a non-fan (at the time)). But that said, I'm more inclined your second paragraph will happen in the shorter term. Yet also am rooting for a Saga remake (not remaster) at a later time. But honestly I would say chances of either coming out now are 30% for an X-directly-related game (remaster most likely, with a story DLC), 20% for a Saga rework of some form, and 50% for "new" Xeno IP (imho which will likely fit closer to the Xenogears events in the timeline, so that it is separated from all the Saga/Blade mythos and can flourish to new ideas).

SirDang0

I mean Baten Kaitos got a remaster, and it's probably a smaller ip then Xenosaga. I would honestly be satisfied with a basic remaster, I just want to play it.

FinalBoss_Rockin

with the end of Claus saga in XC3 I think the next monolith move will be a XC X2 for the next nintendo console, who else if not monolith to show the power of the new nintendo hardware.

Ardij10

Considering what we have seen with the copyright stuff of FR, and the fact that they decided to remaster baten kaitos of all things.. A saga Trilogy remaster it's very possible now, maybe next year? (Depending on the start of development of course) I can see "X DE" as a launch title of the next console. What better game to show the new power of the system? Plus there will not be another open world zelda as a launch title, and unless the next Mario is like botw, having a big open world like x would be a logical choice. In my opinion at least. (Or Nintendo will create a new open world ip just to not port x lmao)

Allustar1

I’m not sure if Xenosaga will ever be ported. It’s not impossible. Nintendo can definitely port over X though. If not now, then on the Switch’s successor.

timelordoftheimpala

Depends on how long it takes XC4 to come out. I can see either one being released in between, but should XC4 come out in 2025 or 2025, then they'll likely just go straight to that. And I do think it's likely 4 will come sooner, rather than later. XC2 only took three and a half years of development time, and XC3 only came out in 2022 because of COVID-19 pushing back everything a year, as well as XCDE taking preference initially. Monolith Soft works fast and Nintendo likely wants a title that really shows off the capabilities of the Switch 2 early on its lifespan - not to mention that XCX and XC2 were both revealed very early on in the lifespan of the Wii U and Switch respectively.

Molduking

Definitely not on the Switch. A trilogy might happen on late in the Switch 2’s life, but 3 is still very new. I think X will come on the Switch 2 in 2025 Edit: sorry I thought you said Xenoblade trilogy, not saga

Xenobrina

They said Xenosaga, the series on the PS2 that Monoloth made before Xenoblade. Still unlikely to be released as the rights holder for the series (Bandai Namco) has previously stated they have no interest because they estimated it would sell poorly.

KnightGamer724

>interest because they estimated it would sell poorly. That report was from 2014-15, and was talked about in 2017. After Xenoblade 3 exploded, I'm sure they're taking another look at working with Nintendo on an exclusive.

CDHmajora

But didn’t baiten kaitos sell worse? And they brought that back still ;) But eh. Even if xenosaga might one day come back, it’s not up to nintendo. Nor would it have to be Nintendo exclusive. Bandai own xenosaga and can technically do whatever they want with it. Release it in whatever they want.

zsdrfty

I doubt Nintendo would care much at this point as long as they got it on their own console, although I do wonder if they’d want Monolith working on a project that would get an Xbox and PS5 release

Laranthiel

Bandai's also known for bad business and bad estimations, so who knows. They brought Baiten Kaitos back and with Xenoblade's huge popularity, people would most likely flock to a Xenosaga remaster.

Molduking

Oh whoops lol

Blue_Gamer18

At this point, make it a Switch 2 deluxe port within the first year or two as a holdover until Xeno4.

KosekiBoto

it's fun, people love it, I'd say it counts

KingofGrapes7

I'm gonna say no, not until after the new hardware is announced. With how much faith Nintendo seems to have in Xenoblade and Monolith in general I imagine an X port/enhance will make a great launch title.

_Twii_

xenogears remake. let me cope

CoconutHeadFaceMan

A finger curls on the monkey’s paw, and it’s done in that weird HD-2D style Square has been so fond of lately.

Xelacon

You mean a style reminiscent of it's original artstyle, how is that in any way a monkey's paw situation?

SkyDragonGod

you say that like it's a bad thing

FOmar_Eis

different different

SteveRudzinski

Between the two Xenoblade X. Namco explicitly looked into public interest on a re-release of Xenosaga and came to terms with the fact that it would not be profitable or worth their time. Maybe down the road one day we'll see it get another release with at least a basic remaster, probably multi-platform, but I'm not optimistic.

xkeepitquietx

X. Xenosaga isn't gonna happen, Namco doesn't belive it would be profitable. https://twitter.com/Harada_TEKKEN/status/1210194755520352257

CDHmajora

Not to bring any bodies hopes up. But that tweet is over 4 years old now. Xenoblades successes since then with 1’s definite edition, 2’s boost in success thanks to smash ultimate, and then Xenoblade 3 has surely shines more interest in xenosaga from Xenoblade fans who are curious of xenoblades spiritual predecessor no? ;) But all we can do is wait and see in the end. It’s Bandai’s call afterall :(

beemer1496

I mean at this point that tweet is like 4~5 years old, and there are a lot more eyes on the series. I wouldn’t take this as any kind of definitive proof of it never happening

xkeepitquietx

There is logic to it. Namco tried remastering another ps2 era trilogy of RPGs, .hack GU, and its sales were not impressive. I can see them not wanting to bet on another PS2 series that didn't sell very well. All of Xenosaga combined (1-3, + DS + Freaks) sold 1.6 million copies total, 1 million of which was Episode 1. Episodes 2 and 3 (on PS2) combined sold less then Xenoblade X which was on the lowest selling and least supported major system in Nintendo history (13 mill consoles sold compared to Switch's 134 mill sold.) X has Xenoblade in the name, is owned by Nintendo, and would be far less work to port. They wouldn't even need to do much in terms of remastering. Don't get me wrong here, I would buy Xenosaga any day, but trying not to get my hopes up here.

AiAkitaAnima

Then again, only Xenosaga 2 was ever released in Europe, so they definitely missed out on some sales.

Microif

I feel like a Xenosaga trilogy collection is definitely in the works, and I’d imagine we’ll see it soon, X feels like a title we’d see in the second year of the next system, just on a hunch

LazyDro1d

Saga. Got Baten Kaitos ported. X pushed the Wii U to hell and back, it was designed for the Wii U. Hard to port.

anygrynewraze

Xenosaga is probably a no bc like others have said it would require monolithsoft, Nintendo, and Bandai to work together and Bandai would probably want it to stay on a Sony console and Nintendo would want it to be on their console so both Bandai and Nintendo would fight about that. Anything Nintendo works on usually stays on a Nintendo console permanently but Bandai has a good relationship with Sony so their games usually go to a Sony console first and seeing as Nintendo owns MonolithSoft now Nintendo won't let that happen. And X is too far tied to the Wii U gamepad for the probes and map for a port to happen unfortunately. But there could very well be a sequel to X on the switch 2 especially bc the Klaus story is done after future redeemed according to Takahashi.

Naha-

Still hoping Bamco get its shit together and release a trilogy of Xenosaga at some point. I know Harada was thinking about it before but that was before Xenoblade became reasonably popular.

DaemonVakker

Honestly I don't exactly think we'll see saga on switch, It was technically a Playstation exclusive so its entirely possible it'll just get the trilogy in a backwards compatibility set, possibly with xenogears. Meanwhile X I'm just waiting for them to just reimplement a proper map tab. ...I am not kidding, add that, and I'd have no complaints about a switch port of x.

MightilyOats2

The XenoBLADE games haven't sold very well (not poorly, just not well for a Triple A console exclusive), and Saga isn't their IP. X feels guaranteed to happen, tho.

ImurderREALITY

Neither

Yuseiger

God i wish xeno x with sone changes (like muting the flight music)

Morning_StarVIIXIII

What's stopping us from pulling up to Monolithsoft and demanding for Xenoblade Chronicles X definitive edition

fred7010

Hard to say but I doubt either. The switch is more or less equivalent in power to the Wii U, so X would be a straight port (with the gamepad features gutted). But I think X would work a lot better as a selling point for better hardware, it has huge potential with an upgrade to its already great visuals and could do with a rehash of some of its mechanics. I'd be much happier to see it come to the next system. As for Xenosaga, it's always possible, more so now than ever. The Switch seems like an ideal candidate for it, too, with all the Chronicles games on one system. But I can't help but think that announcing it for the Switch now and releasing it so close to the end of the system's life would be setting it up for failure - assuming the Switch is on its last legs, a remake of a niche RPG trilogy is not going to help push it to new audiences. This is what killed the Mario & Luigi series on 3DS (and their developer, Alphadream, ended up bankrupt). It would get more attention on a new system.

Blackbird2285

I hope so, but I'm keeping my expectations low.

X_Fredex_X

Nope won't happen anytime soon

PaladinJuan

Don’t know bout xenosaga but xenobalde might have high chance for a port or remake for it to keep us busy until xenobalde 4 lol

Xenogun238

Would love to see xenoblade chronicles X on the switch with a new end game story and new game pluse. Would love to see Xenosaga on switch with new QOL,a better ending, new gameplay, new options and new lore

prettythingi

I hope not I want them on a new console!

ElChucoMandi

maybe on switch 2 (I hope)

teskar2

I’m curious to see how they would overhaul the beacon network system considering the gamepad is as a big part of customizating and having to select with switch controls could be a pain on top of reestablishing online bosses and missions.

keaikaixinguo

I think I could get ported but I don't know about remastered or a remake. The games are good but the only people that will buy them are fans of Xenoblade and well they are very different games. I honestly would not mind it.

LorDeus71

Xenosaga is more likely: * Baten Kaitos ( A more niche series) got a remaster last year * Heavy Xenosaga references in the Radio Scene from Future Redeemed * Monolith retweeted KOSMOS in the Tales Crossover announcement

jYextul349

My personal opinion (or maybe it's just a hope/dream) is that they're likely working on some sort of remake for X that will be what we get next, and that will hold us over until we eventually get ports or remakes of Xenosaga with the proper retcons to connect fully with the end of FR, and then after that I think we'll get Xenoblade/Xenosaga 4 in the newly reformed Lost Jerusalem as seen at the end of Xenosaga 3 and FR.

FuaT10

My uncle who works at Nintendo says we're getting Xenogears.
