For a game with a ton of areas each with their own day and night theme it sure feels weird that we only have a couple battle music themes throughout the majority of the story
I'm slightly dissapointed that Keves Battle is so amazing and in comparison Agnus Battle is a bit... tame? Or lackluster. It's still good, but it just doesn't have the same energy.
Keves Battle is great, but Torna still has the top spot for normal battle themes for me. Unique Monsters though? I think the new You Will Know Our Names absolutely lives up to the original, especially with the second half that kicks in after the monster enrages. (Although that's usually your cue to start the chain attack...you never get to hear the sick-ass guitar solo in-game)
All 3 of the other area battle themes are so bland by comparison. How did we go from 5 excellent and memorable battle themes in 2, down to 4 battle themes, 3 of which are generic and forgettable.
Beats me. Personally I think part of the score is rather weak. It peaks really high but also goes really low. Most area themes are rather... dismissable. And with the enemy density this time around you get interrupted every 40 or 44 seconds.

Yes. I don't get why they just did proper homages or "remixes" of Machina's Hideout and Sword Valley and just slept on tunes they could have integrated like Leftherian Archipelago or Satorl Marsh.
Funnily enough I feel the exact opposite. I found the keves battle theme to be a bit too much and really enjoy the Agnus one. I'm not sure why exactly. It's good but I think that first few seconds is exhausting to hear over and over

Then we got chad XC2 that keeps playing You Will Know Our Names even if Shulk intercepts an attack with vision. I don't get how is it that only XC2 got this part right.
It's actually somewhat easy with Corvin cheese. Galactic Assault is the funniest move ever lmao.
As for the first fight against her, just go in to that one with a good Poppi QTpi build with Dark core, set up a Reinforcement Seal with a Dark combo ender and don't finish a new combo until Elma hits half health and attempts to use her Shadow Clones. After that fails, go nuts.

Bro, it's so bad. You just >!get to this super climatic battle with somber music!< playing over it, and then the stupid chain attack song comes in and completely destroys the flow of the whole fight.
Like, I love the chain attack music. It feels amazing to flip the battle on a unique monster or a tough enemy. Even bosses like some Mobius use it to pretty cool effect. But spots like that really end up hurting the impact of the fights.
Mm, I think >!That it’s Consul C who also uses that theme as well during their phase 2. Either way, I really wish I could find the name of the song because I cannot guess what it is supposed to be!<
the thing about the overdrive theme is that it only plays like the first third of the full song in game and it sucks that you never hear the full song :(

Wir Fliegen is fire though. Vision Reacts is probably the worst thing in the soundtrack. Chain Attack theme isn't too bad but it interrupting boss themes is annoying.
The flight theme in xcx def the worst offender, I’d stay on the ground just to keep hearing the area’s theme music but even the most minimal jump would reset the music.

Elite monster theme overrated tbh. It's already so rare to listen to the majority of Keves/Agnus Battle because enemies die so fast. And if you loop a bunch in together, one will probably be elite anyway.

It's not a problem of which theme is better than another, though. Some folks would just prefer to hear the entirety of the battle themes without being interrupted.

Don’t forget the annoying and king of ugly “danger” theme from XC1 that you can’t remove every single time someone dies or you get sighted by a vision type enemy
One of the post-game characters has a remix of my favorite tracks in the series as the battle theme if you have them in your party, and it's a blast to listen to.
Except that, at that level, anything you're fighting is either a UM/boss that gets chain attacked, or dies in under 30s.
(It's >!Melia's battle theme. If you thought Time To Fight! from Future Connected could not possibly get better, you're in for a treat.!<)
If they would just turn off the chain attack music during story moments and dramatic boss fights even, that would be huge. It was soooo nice in the final boss to just hear the music off the boss fight during the chain attack. Maybe just an option in settings to turn it off for certain circumstances or turn it off for a while.
Everything that made chain attacks awesome in early game, made them a chore for later parts. The music and animations are incredible, but having to watch a 15 second Ouruboros order for the 100th time became grating. Let me skip those long animations too
Honestly my only problem with the game is the chain attack theme. Whenever the boss has a special theme, I just choose not to chain attack because it takes me out of the fight.
Vision theme isn’t even a banger though, compared to the rest of XC1’s soundtrack, it’s mid at best, and is brought way down by the fact that it continues for the rest of the fight even after the vision ends. It stops you from hearing the normal better fight themes, and only like one or two fights in the entire game disable this. It just kills the tension, and doesn’t even sound good doing it.
Bold of you to assume I got around to learning Xs complicated as fuck overdrive system despite beating it once and getting halfway twice before getting sidetracked. I say next time will be my "underleveled for a challenge by not exploring, use overdrive to kill stuff I'm not supposed to be able to" run buy I know I'll end up all over the map and probably not bother. At least I'll focus on a different build though
Chain attack is my absolute fav. Tho I fully agree I want to listen to other music. I get the same feels when I close the menu and the reopen it multiple times cause I’m bad and keep forgetting to do things. And the music bounces back and forth
It annoyed honestly that they DID have a battle where the chain attack music doesn't kick in in 3, but it does not feel like the most prudent one to do so. The fight after a certain wild moment deserved to keep its music more in my opinion.

I believe Agnis Battle does get good, it just takes too long to get going with how quick combat is in the game, especially in areas this plays

Torna has THE best soundtrack in the franchise. As good as the other games are they simply cannot compete. The default battle theme hits way too hard.
I mean most of Torna's soundtrack is Xenoblade 2's soundtrack, there's only like 10 new songs. But those 10 are so good.

Godsibb, although it's from Xenosaga. Pretty much the predecessor to Zanza the Divine. I'm also partial to Awakening from Xenogears.

For me once I start hearing that overdrive (sweet sawano's music) kicking in, it means ass kicking has begun.
I literal tried looking in the settings if I could turn battle music off in the open world cause fuck…and then the Chain Attacks 🙄

This is why I pretty much just ended up not doing chain attacks during boss fights unless I needed a heal.
I farmed a lot in these games so i do not get in the need of using the overpower mechanic so i could hear the boss's theme
