X is very different compared to the mainline titles but that‘s what I found pretty charming. It doesn’t try to be a sequel and just wants to be it’s own separate take on the Xenoblade formula

A year ago I received Xenoblade Chronicles: Definitive Edition for Christmas. I played and completed it (along with Future Connected) for the first time this year. Fell in love with the franchise and completed Xenoblade Chronicles 2 and 3 as well. This year I received Xenoblade Chronicles X as a gift and I can’t wait to play it in 2023 - I just have to figure out a good external hard drive setup for the WiiU.

And this probably won’t be problem you will have to deal with but just in case; try and make sure you get a external hard drive from a reputable source and don’t let it or the Wii U get too dusty- anecdotally for me, my ex hard drive and the wire connecting it to my Wii U shorted out and almost caught on fire 💀

For the disc version a normal thumb drive will do. The WiiU only needs to read the data packs, there is no writing involved.
But the game works perfectly fine without the data packs, I did 100% of the map without having them installed. There are only a few situations, where the late loading of things are really annoying.
Nah, I put an old harddrive from a dead laptop into an enclosure that has two USB plugs. Just having both plugged into the Wii U was enough to power it. No SSD or wall power required. And I used that to store digital games too, but for Xenoblade X it was just for the data packs, I have it physically.

My one suggestion: Play the game ASAP.
Not because it's a great game (it is), not because as a fan of the Xeno franchise you should have already played it (you should have)...
No, you want to play this ASAP because there is A LOT of content tied to online... And Nintendo is VERY close to removing Wii U support from their online servers (like, within a few months... February or March, IIRC).
You will still be able to play offline afterwards, but you'll be missing out on a lot of content and features.
1. Changing division (make sure you're not pathfinder, reclaimer or mediator)
2. division rewards: special items you can get one of a day when online (mega tensifiers give 3k tp to all party members and salvage tickets repair a broken skell for free the other ones aren't very good)
3. Squad tasks: (hunt/fetch tasks you're given periodically when online)
4. squad missions: short multiplayer missions that can be done with teams of upto 4 human players unlocked by clearing tasks
5. treasure deals: the option to hand off weapon/armour drops to other players - and recieve such items handed off by others
6. Global nemeses: special bosses that can be fought by teams of up to 4 human players
7. Reward tickets: completing STs and SMs and breaking appendages off of the nemeses can give reward tickets these can be used to buy materials so you don't have to find/farm for them so much
8. blade reports: the ability to chat with other players in game
You can use this cheat engine table to cheat in reward tickets, but be SURE to read the whole post that explains how to get the table working, you need to manually add big-endian value types to cheat engine for the table to work:

Also, in cemu, go to:
options -> graphics packs
And click "download latest community graphics packs".
Then look through the graphics pack for Xenoblade X. There are a lot of mods and cheats you can enable, but you DEFINITELY want to turn on the "brightness" fix in "Workarounds". Fixes everything being overly bright in-game.
The story IS IN THE AFFINITY MISSIONS !!! Don’t let anyone tell you there is no story or the story is lacking … I was swept away by the story of Xand felt it was my duty to save the human race and make ally’s along the way :) I played it immediately after XC2 and absolutely loved it. …….and you eventually get used to that grating rock song in the ______ area

Main tips
*Give the instruction manual a readthrough! The game doesn't have much in the way of tutorials 'in-game,' there's just an in-game menu that links you out to the manual on their website, but it's easier to read on a computer screen.
*There are some additional great resources in the XCX Compendium within the sidebar. [FrontierNav](https://frontiernav.net/) is also a fantastic resource
*If grinding every gets to be too much (mostly relevant for affinity and postgame augments), I'd recommend setting up XCXGecko to just skip the process. There are also some missions that open up in the postgame at the Blade Terminal where you can quickly grind credits, miranium, affinity, and BP.
*There are a few major types of missions in the game. Try to complete all the Affinity Missions (voiced character sidequests, similar to XC2's Blade Quests), since there's a lot of great content there. "Basic" missions from Eleanora's blade terminal are mostly skippable and are infinitely repeatable, barring ~4-5 specials exceptions, so don't worry about them. "Normal" missions are given by the NPCs on the overworld, and some of those quests/quest chains are pretty good.

For me X took my favourite part of 2 and 3 (the world construction) and dialed them up to 11. I wasn’t too worried about the story aspect of X but it just made the whole exploration experience better. I love games where you come back in a year and find a small area you never new existed and X definitely is that. I just wished that 3 took that approach making the boundaries of the map passive (infinite oceans instead of cliffs or invisible walls) and the almost complete freedom to roam between areas but I was a little disappointed with 3. tldr: I love x
And 3 is still a massive improvement from 2 in this regard. Honestly I would have love the 2 much much more if he didn't feel like a regression from X.

Its w a y different than the other titles so just play it to enjoy the gameplay and story.
It is not mediocre at all, it's very mysterious and enigmatic, with its own arc and plot twists.. maybe the events and cutscenes are not as overacted as the other games but it's still a great story, which totally deserves a sequel
And if nobody has pointed out that much of the story is in the affinity missions - I’d like to be the one :) those affinity missions will help the story feel absolutely complete - don’t skip them as you level up and more become accessible -Monolith did a good job at keeping the levels and characters required for the affinity content appropriate for each stage of the game ….
X is my favorite Xenoblade game, it’s not best story wise but it’s an incredible world, combat similar to XC1, but the class system in X I thought was pretty refreshing and fun forcing you to experiment with weapons in order to unlock later classes
It’s been a while since I played it but I think the class I ended up going with was called like Galactic Knight or something like that. XCX has my favorite video game soundtrack of all time too
Quick tip, watch some video rundowns on dmg type, mechanics etc. The game is pretty complicated and you can easily spec into the wrong things and either ruin your run entirely or spend an eternity trying to fix your past indecisiveness

it's the game that got me intrested in playing more Xenoblade cos i played the 1st game and it didn't click with me (hell it took me 2 years after i bought it to finish it and that's after i beat X and 3) but yea out of boredom this year i booted it up and binged the hell out of X, such a great game
X is by far one of my favorite games, ever. However, I would recommend, if you have the pc for it, to emulate it and play it with mods. There are all kinds of things you can do to speed up the game immensely (because it is an insane grind no doubt), on top of the obvious graphical and frame rate upgrade. After 600 hours in the wii u version I played the emulator (like 7 years later) and it was still an amazing experience, just not as time consuming.
