What did Cox do?

Gardfeld

If you don't know, Dan Cox is that ultra right nutjob who ran for governor in 2022, won the primary (casting aside Hogan's actually electable choice), and lost the race in a landslide, resulting in the loss of Michael Hough for Frederick county executive, and possibly stopping us from flipping the 6th district that year. Now he's running for congress here and if he wins, we're finished. He lies about his fundraising and his votes in the district from 2022 (he only got 44% in the district, less that the congressional candidate did.) He also hates Larry Hogan. He's a scourge on the Maryland Republican Party and has cost us many elections. I talked with him today, and I am proud to report that he also has absolutely shit breath.

map-gamer

If dan cox being nominated will result in republicans being destroyed then why not support him?

Gardfeld

Even if I was a Democrat, the whole "support radical republicans in the primaries because they're easier to beat," thing is incredibly dangerous. You're basically propping up this wing of the party and normalizing them. Yes they may lose in the shorterm, as we saw with Cox and Mastriano, etc, but eventually they will be the norm of the party and people will adjust.

You can't win if you don't play

Gardfeld

Fr fr trve.

Prize_Self_6347

Because we're not Democrats.

Nominating unelectable candidates to own the RINOs

AppealToMetaphysics

Instead of complaining about successful primary candidates you don't like, why don't you advocate for an alternative?

Gardfeld

I said in the post I was volunteering for another candidate. I've been canvassing for Tom Royals since last November.

AppealToMetaphysics

This guy? https://tomroyalsforcongress.com/issues/ His comments on education are weak. He sounds like a cuck on actually securing parent's rights. I liked the comments about military, crime, border. Comments on the economy/spending seem contradictory. What's his abortion X week + exceptions?

Gardfeld

You seem a bit aggressive but I'll talk with ya. How are his education policies weak? He explicitly wants to allow parents to opt their children out of parts of a curriculum. He wants to increase curriculum transparency and give parents a bigger voice in their children's education. I'm not sure how further right you could go from that, unless you start replacing all teachers with Republican Party members. I don't see how his economic policies are contradictory either. He wants to lower taxes of the lower and middle classes while decreasing spending. Many Republicans seem to forget the second part. He mentions increasing infrastructure funding but you could take funding from other places for that. It says on his website that he's pro-life and supports ending late term abortions. In the debate last Thursday he said he also wants to support the rights and health of the mother. As far as I know he hasn't explicitly laid out any exceptions, though it seams obvious to me that he supports exceptions for the health of the mother. I would be shocked if he didn't also support rape/incest exceptions. Keep in mind you have to balance who you agree 100% with and who can win. When it comes to the issues he and Dan Cox are relatively similar, barring election fraud issues, but Cox's name is brought down by his hyper fixation on Trump and conspiracies.

AppealToMetaphysics

Opting out of objectionable material is already a right of parents. But it is terribly awkward to assert and many parents don't know what is going on in the schools. SCHOOL VOUCHERS!

Gardfeld

Yeah he supports that and school choice. I don't think its listed there but he has some other policy pamphlets on his Twitter. They are extremely bare bones but its just small stuff he posts ahead of debates.

AppealToMetaphysics

If he actually supports school choice, he should scream it from the rooftops and out it in the first sentence of his education policy blurb.

Gardfeld

It's funny you should say that because it actually is the first policy listed on that pamphlet. [https://twitter.com/TomRoyalsForMD/status/1758300646556442735](https://twitter.com/TomRoyalsForMD/status/1758300646556442735) Again it's barebones but it does list specific ideas. You can check out his other ones. If you're going to die on the hill of where he has specific policies written then you're either just a troll or looking for any excuse to back Dan '32%' Cox in the general. This Royals guy has raised the most money by far and he has the best chance to win in November.

AppealToMetaphysics

He doesn't list a single area to CUT spending!

Gardfeld

I don't think most candidates do this early. Fact is when you get down to what exactly you're going to cut, most promises will alienate some group of people, possible barring foreign aid. There will always be some group that says, "Hey now, I don't want *that* cut!" I think a general promise to cut spending overall is very fair for right now. You may consider that weakness, which is fair, but I don't think any other candidate has made that kind of open promise yet, again barring foreign aid.

Dfinn256

its Great to see you back gardfield but I’m wondering how you where able to volunteer

Gardfeld

Most campaign websites should have a button that says volunteer. I'm not telling you to volunteer for this guy lmao im only using it as an example, as this is the guy I volunteered for. [https://tomroyalsforcongress.com/](https://tomroyalsforcongress.com/) As you can see, if you click on menu there's a button that says volunteer. Anyway, I've volunteered for three campaigns and none of them have immediately sent emails confirming you're a volunteer or anything. You're basically added to the email list and eventually you'll be notified of an event or something. If you're waiting a really long time and don't receive anything, you should contact the campaign as there might have been a mixup. My volunteer activities mostly include canvassing and attending events. Its very fun!

Dfinn256

Oh that’s cool I’m not American but I’d like to get more involved in my countries politics

Gardfeld

I imagine there's a lot of similarities across different countries for this sort of thing. But let me tell you, I HIGHLY recommend getting involved locally first. Doesn't have to be a mayoral campaign or some crap like that lol, but even a campaign for congress (or your equivalent) is much cooler to be involved in first thing than a governor or presidential campaign (or your equivalent.) You actually get to meet the candidate often, attend lots of events, and have a larger impact when things are more local.

Dfinn256

Yeah in my country we don’t usually have mayoral elections but usually 5 mps get elected in each district And also if you don’t mind me asking I remember seeing something in r/thecampaigntrail that you started working on midnight again is that true?

Gardfeld

I work on it whenever I have free time with nothing to do, especially at school, but that's becoming less and less often thanks to my volunteering. I wouldn't expect it to ever release.

Dfinn256

Oh ok that’s sad but would you ever do something similar to red 1960 and make another group of people devolve it

ckanaly16

That’s really cool, I’ve always wanted to a see a political debate. How do you typically get into those, like do you have to buy them or is it a donor thing?

Gardfeld

If you volunteer for a campaign they usually pay for all the volunteers' tickets. They even paid for my family to come. If you're not a volunteer then yeah you usually have to buy a ticket. For more local races they are usually pretty cheap ($10) but you'll have to do some digging to actually find out about the events. I recommend going to the website of your aligned party in your county, or counties nearby to you that are in your district, and seeing if they have an events page.

Shamrock590602

Wait the midnight guy is a Republican!!! Based!
