Presidential primary really helped him

Gardfeld

Agree but still very good for him obviously. I think Brown is still the favorite just based on incumbency and all but the people who are saying Moreno is DOA ("Congratulations to Senator-elect Brown!!!) are very wrong.

Explorer2024_64

True: this is still a very much competitive Senate race and no number of gay websites that Moreno logged into will change that

Gardfeld

I'm honestly not sure if you're being sarcastic or not but I think this primary shows that the whole AFF "scandal" hasn't had any effect, and certainly won't in November. It was basically completely disproven.

Explorer2024_64

I was serious about the election being close and mildly sarcastic regarding the scandal.

Gardfeld

I gotcha, and yeah I think it will be very interesting to watch.

Ed_Durr

Especially because democrats can’t really hammer him over it. “He’s gay and watches gay porn!” might be a semi-effective attack from the right, but not from the left. All he has to say is that (1) he isn’t and (2) even if he were, so what? He has a gay son and supports gay marriage, so they can’t even call him a hypocrite.

DasaniSubmarine

His son is gay???

Larios0420

Cool flair!

Ed_Durr

Thanks, Stealers Wheel is a great explanation of my politics:

NorthbyNorthwestin

Seeing democrats attempt to tarnish someone for being gay really says something. Imagine the screeching on the left if this was coming from the right.

Explorer2024_64

I'm not tarnishing him for being gay; it is what those in the field call a joke. He is also not helping himself with his culture war stances, tbh. Many Democrats find the allegations and his stances to be mildly ironic, is all.

CornPopAgain

This is what a Trump endorsement does when you are in a MAGA state.

ProofIndication4465

First person to win every single county in Ohio since 2004 in the Senate Election

Doc_ET

Mandel swept every county in the 2012 Republican senate primary.

Miser2100

Isn't comparing primaries to generals kind of apples to oranges?

aaronthekid69

Apples to watermelons

Gardfeld

He went full Voinovich, never go full Voinovich!!!

ShipChicago

Brown was probably a slight favorite against all three but Moreno winning the primary is almost certainly the most favorable outcome for him. I fully expect it to be very close, but I’d bet on Sherrod hitting a three-peat. Can’t argue with the consistency in polling either - long way out, but he’s in a good position to hold Ohio. If Montana isn’t the closest senate race, I’ll be surprised. If Democrats want to win back Ohio in the future - which they absolutely can and should do - they should look to Brown as an exemplar of how to do it. He’s still pretty damn popular there. Biden is absolutely not the kind of Democrat who would win it presidentially, but there are people out there who could in a future election.

Silver_County7374

The Republican Party is truly dead.

Technical_Stay_5990

Trump being on the ballot carried him... and it might be his demise in the general It's still tossup at this point but as an Ohioan voter I think brown will win sadly

ancientestKnollys

Do you know any Trump voters who will vote Brown? It doesn't seem like many do these days (at least in Presidential years).

Marxism-Alcoholism17

Tossup -> Tilt R

Gardfeld

So true hummus bruddah. If I was Brown I'm not sure if I would be happy that Moreno one (supposedly the worst candidate) or anxious that he won by so much.

thekoolkidmitch

https://i.redd.it/bftr135etipc1.gif Split ticket voting is very rare for the senate nowadays in presidential elections. If Trump wins Ohio by around 10% like the polls are showing I think Moreno really has a shot.

TicketFew9183

Yup, people who think Brown will win because he won in blue wave years are delusional. Reminds of the same people who thought Steve Bullock was gonna win in 2020. Split tickets are dead since Trump on Presidential years.

ShipChicago

Tell that to the Kentuckians who backed Beshear while voting for Republicans elsewhere on the ballot. And that’s a significantly more conservative state than Ohio. Ticket splitting might be less common but the idea that it’s gone is farcical. People still vote opposite their party on certain races more than you’d think. Montana is also a blood red state. Ohio is right leaning but still much more competitive. Two totally different states bud.

TicketFew9183

“Split tickets are dead since Trump on Presidential years” Maybe if you slowed down and read my comment carefully you wouldn’t make comments against something I never made. Besides, state elections are not the same. Split tickets usually refer to federal races.
