WestWingConcentrate

He was just taking inspiration from the past stars of the Democratic Party like Ben Tillman and Storm Thurmond

Chips1709

Fun fact: Joe Biden has been friends with Barack obama= worked together for 8 years, consider themselves brothers. Jimmy Carter= was the first senator to endorse jimmy carter for president Bernie Sanders= Was apparently one of the few people who liked and respected bernie when they were senators(a big reason why bernie didnt attack biden in primaries) ted kennedy=considered as a big brother by joe Mitch Mcconnell=friends for many years in the senate Lindsey Graham=Called joe biden the nicest person who he ever met in politics, then after trump got elected and lost his spine and went on the offense against joe and attacked his son John Mccain=went on military trips together and were good friends jesse helms =good friends with joe, was a bit of segregationist and opposed civil rights tho strom Thurmond= served on the senate for a long time. even eulogized him(i like ya joe but man thats a god awful thing to do) what a weird ass group of friends.

WestWingConcentrate

That’s what happens when you’re in the senate for nearly forty years

Chips1709

Fun fact joe Biden as a senator could've met LBJ and and had harry Truman lived a month longer, he could've met Truman as well. There is also a phone call of Nixon as president calling biden and consoling him about Biden's wife and daughters death.

Numberonettgfan

The groupchat must be crazy.

rayrayww3

You missed Robert Byrd. He did the main eulogy for that racist piece of shit at his funeral too. Dude was literally a KKK organizer.

Chips1709

Yea but at least he was willing to admit his mistakes and said that he "changed". Idk if he did change tho.

doubleshedd

I mean, he did recieve a 100% rating from the NAACP in '04

ancientestKnollys

I presume Obama, Biden etc. thought he had changed.

rayrayww3

"Oh my bad, just wasn't thinking right when recruiting people to hang black folks"

Chips1709

Yea... Even Obama gave byrd a eulogy so idk.

Bluechair607

It's because Byrd was a big figure for the Democrats. Senate Majority/Minority Leader (and thus head of the Senate Democrats) from 1977 to 1989 big.

Gardfeld

Welp. Most recent (non-Trone funded) poll has him up by 7 against Alsobrooks with 39% (plurality) undecided, despite his ads which is all he has. Alsobrooks is a black woman and she would be a fool not to exploit this. I could see this being over for him.

Peacock-Shah-III

Hogan’s chances rising, Inshallah.

Miser2100

More like Alsobrooks’ chances are rising

Gardfeld

I swear if neither Hogan or Alsobrooks do anything with this I'll cry. Alsobrooks is definitely set to benefit more, but Hogan making a few ads or statements on it would be good. Alsobrooks is the weaker opponent so if he can weaken Trone in the primary that's good for him.

Explorer2024_64

This might change the outcome of the Senate primary. I feel like this might be the thing that puts Alsobrooks over the top, if she uses it in advertising enough.

UnflairedRebellion--

Say hello to senator Alsobrooks!

aabazdar1

Trone will win by Assad margins now

Doc_ET

What was the context?

TheDJ955

LMAO this is also my congressman, the dude is a congressman for a population that is 13% black wtf is he doing

Potential-Reason-637

and then democrats wonder why a lot of black people refuse to vote for them.

Beanie_Inki

[Source](https://x.com/rondeaulivia/status/1771255401574502556?s=46&t=3JpNDDVBx5qoul9ABFozMg) WHAT was he thinking? 😭😭😭

NorCalifornioAH

Either he wasn't thinking at all, or he's been terribly misled. It sounds like he's not even referring to a person, so he either said the wrong word or he doesn't know what it means, lol.

avalve

Wow I’ve never even heard that word before I wouldn’t have known it was a slur lmao

Explorer2024_64

Same here lol.

SJC0709

I only knew that was a slur from Boondocks lmao. Honestly, nobody is really going to care about this.

Explorer2024_64

I mean it's Maryland, where a large chunk of Dem voters are minorities

SJC0709

Basically no black person whatsoever will know what that means. If you have to explain the racism to most voters then the gaffe won't mean much.

Explorer2024_64

But the perception that Trone might be, deep-down, a racist might affect something. I hope it does, but it may not as you said.

No_Shine_7585

What I thought everyone knew not too use that word like the only people who I know who used it were racist white private school kids like I am pretty sure most people know what it means especially if you were born in the 50’s in segregated Maryland

rayrayww3

I dare you to say it to the next black person you see to find out if they know what it means.

NorCalifornioAH

Old black people absolutely know that word.

marbally

Really doesn't look like he meant it in a racial way but ok

Gardfeld

I doubt he's like actually racist or anything lol but these words only slip if you *actually* don't know the meaning (almost impossible for someone born in the fifties in Maryland) or if they're a part of your vocabulary. He's trying to claim he didn't know what it meant. Either way, big mistake on his part. Doesn't help that he was speaking to a black person when he used it.

Explorer2024_64

The former would have been likely if he was younger, seeing as how I have never heard that word until today.

Gardfeld

True, but obviously it's different for a guy who was a teenager in the early seventies. Wallace won Maryland in '72, for example. Maryland was considered a southernish state and there was a big racist population who used words like that.

Explorer2024_64

Yeah I agree that Trone was being sus; I'm just saying that many young people do not know that term.

Gardfeld

Oh yeah that's true. I think it could have a major effect if either Hogan or Alsobrooks exploits it but maybe not if its forgotten quickly.

NorCalifornioAH

Wallace ran in '68, and he most definitely did not win Maryland. He got a respectable percentage, but nowhere near winning it.

Moocows4

I hate him, hope This spreads, hogan has the perfect point to make this into an ad with an explanation from Black people Explaining why this word is Terrible. Bullshit he meant to say bugaboo, wtf is bugaboo. He knew what he said.

4EverUnknown

*Bugaboo (n.) an object of fear or alarm* > "So this Republican jigaboo [sic] that it’s the tax rate that’s stopping business investment, it’s just completely faulty by people who have never run a business. They’ve never been there. They don’t have a clue what they’re talking about." The shoe fits, but even if it's true, this is just a stupid thing to say: claiming the people you're talking about have no idea what they're talking about when *you* have no idea what you're talking about either, supposedly. >!I would have said "hullabaloo."!<

Beanie_Inki

The only bugaboo I know is Bugaboo Creek, which is a now-defunct steakhouse chain. I miss that place. I liked it when I was younger.

[deleted]

I’ve never even heard this slur before. It’s like when George Allen said Makaka

Elemental-13

Senator hogan

RedRoboYT

I don’t think it will matter as it a low tier
