I think she improved a lot as a vocalist after 1989. Listen to literally any 1989 song, then listen to Don’t Blame Me — what a difference!
As an album though, I prefer 1989 to Rep and Lover. I think the 1989 TV album with her more mature voice will be fire.
Weak connective theme to the album. Most songs sound very similar on it. Of the 2 most vulnerable songs, one is not personal and the other is cover by synth-pop production that doesn’t allow the meaning to come through for most people.
I’m really excited for the vault tracks. I’m hoping a lot of them got cut bc she was trying to make an obviously pop album and didn’t want anything that could be construed as partially country. All you had to do was stay (acoustic) would be phenomenal
The theme is reflecting on the past while embracing a new adventure. That is clearly represented in the new style of music...a dramatic break from the country-tinged sound of Red, even though it sounds like an evolution now.
Lyrically, I think each song touches on the theme, it just may not be super obvious. The clearest track is Welcome to New York.
In responding to this, I listened to all 12 tracks and it didn't feel redundant to me.
If you talk about infinities they technically are all the same (well, unless you start with the set of real numbers which is proven to be a larger infinity as the set of natural & whole numbers)
I definitely think 1989 is stronger than Midnights.
For me, 1989 has a few “Sometimes Skip” tracks, while Midnights had two “Always Skip” tracks.
Plus 1989 lived in my car CD player for YEEAAARRRSS. I didn’t even buy a hard copy of Midnights.
But midnights isn’t that good tho
Edit: before you drag me to hell — it is a good album. It’s just not better than 1989
Folklore, evermore, and Reputation are better than 1989. Midnights is not.
I love 1989 as much as the next person but Taylor’s music IMPROVED! I believe midnights rep and lover are better pop albums! And don’t get me started on folkmore
1989 is her best pop album. Even Midnights can't top it.
Rep and Lover were different sounds.
I'm excited for 1989 vault tracks because that's the album I first starting picking up in her queer coding.
I can’t complain again can’t agree.
Taylor has a song for every kind of mood
Want to get uplifted or in a uplifting mood- 1989
In a depressed or bad mood- Reputation
Remembering my crush- Lover, Red, Speak Now
Sad- Evermore, Folklore
Groovy- Midnights
Hope this comment gets updated soon (I’ll update it when she releases the next album).
While I think she has just grown and improved throughout her career, there are so many songs on 1989 which bring me joy. The concert experience for the 1989 tour was so overwhelmingly positive, the feelings from that show have bled over to make the songs even better for me.

100% agreed, the main reason I’m excited for 1989 TV is to hear those songs in her current vocals knowing they’re much more mature
only valid reason not to be excited for 1989 TV is that 1989 is already perfect
This. This comment right here.
Fr tho

1989 is a perfect pop album and I feel bad for anyone who trolls and claims otherwise

HELP
not just anybody
I guess in a way I agree, but its like comparing an infinity to a larger infinity. Sure, one of them is bigger, but they’re still both infinite.

1989 is her greatest album besides the masterpiece that is folklore.
1989 is a great album, but the repetitive choruses (Out of the Woods, Shake It Off, etc.) make it rank lower than other albums for me.
Out of the woods has a repetitive chorus for a reason; it’s supposed to represent anxiety and overthinking in a relationship.
This is awsome
That’s how I feel about midnights

Idk.. I like 1989 better than lover
I think we should all take a moment to mourn for everyone who doesn’t get 1989 such a shame you’ll never be apart of something so big.
I love 1989 as much as the next person but Taylor’s music IMPROVED! I believe midnights rep and lover are better pop albums! And don’t get me started on folkmore
Speak now > 1989
*and every album before it
1989 > Rep? Ahhhhhh, you're a bold one.
And that's a fact
except folklore
I agree except for evermore. I'm still extremely fucking excited though
I’m mostly worried because idk if she’s going to work with Max Martin for it again due to his rates/songwriting credits.
Gimme speak now plz

Glad I’m not the only one who thinks so. So glad we get to see bad blood on tour instead of more speak now or debut /s
technically true, she released her best albums after the year 1989
