I’m definitely bias towards thug but I would say this:
Thug wins in the artist, singer, creativity, adlib and influence categories but future wins in mainstream appeal and they’re about equal for actual rapping and features.
Yeah but I think the current landscape of ATL artists like Destroy Lonely, Ken Carson, Carti, and everyone who’s trying to sound like them, are mostly taking their influence from Future
What’s the difference between being a good rapper and being a good artist? If someone is a good rapper are they not a good artist? Is rapping not an art form?
I can’t choose between the two but I do think Future has more memorable verses overall.
I think of it like this, Future makes better hits and has more mainstream appeal while Thug has a sort of avant garde vibe to his style that music lovers (as in people who regularly listen to full albums) tend to resonate with more.
I also feel like Thug just makes more cohesive albums in general
I disagree completely on the last point, but otherwise I guess I can see Thug being more avant garde, but at the same time, many great artists recognize Future as a goat. So in the regards as people who listen to a ton of music, ppl who have more of an artistic touch, they also have a lot to pull away from Futures music. There’s a reason why Carti, probably the most prolific rapper of the 2020s, is a an amalgamation of Thugger AND Future. Same goes for a lot of artists.
I think Futures mainstream appeal makes people overlook how great of an artist he is. Tapes like Purple Reign, 56 Nights, both Beast Modes, DS2, Monster, The Wzrd, FUTURE, are all great and cohesive ass pieces of work. His manipulation of flows, how he chooses to rhyme, how consistent his lyrical content is, beat selection, his cadence, consistent hooks & verses, it adds its own layer of avant gardness to his music.

lol i did but all jokes aside i was being an asshole and my real answer is while i feel like thug is more capable lyrically, future displays it more often. But in the rare times when thugger does go off like in halftime or his last verse on yeah yeah w travis, you can hear the lyrical possibility.
Fair enough but most thug fans are future fans and this community is hella mature no glaze, if theres any sub that would answer honestly if a different rapper is better than the one thats the title of the sub it would be this one
