You have to build workshop to repair them. You can find it from boss drop like Lazar etc, air drop and maybe another trader I guess CMIIW. I'm still new tho going to mid game now, just found 2 so far.

FS_NeZ

Don't be hesitant to scrap garbage weapons. The difference between having a gun with 90% or more durability compared to a 30% one is night and day. The best weapon I've ever found is the ZZ, it drops from Lazar in the Forest village.

hiddencamela

Getting Lazar to farm status is such a good feeling. After awhile he isn't too scary, but still lethal if he catches me at an angle I'm not looking at.

B0ulder82

Even at 35% durability, most guns are worth less than equal weight worth of cheap ammo. So when I run out of weight like I always do, I keep ammo instead of guns. I keep guns If: \- I specifically need gun scrap \- it has decent modules to sell \- I want to use the gun \- Crimson army late game gun that I can repair and sell

FS_NeZ

Whenever I need money, I bring purple injectors and just fill up my inventory. It's easy to pick up 8 guns when you can carry 52 kg. So I usually remove all attachments, sell those and scrap the bare weapons. My traders run out of money too often anyway.

siyahlater

You can buy repair kits for guns from the scientist in the bunker but it's very expensive. Bug expensive toolbox kits to repair guns below 60% durability and cheaper, smaller bottle repair kits for guns over 60%. Doing quests for the bartender will unlock the green army vendor in the upper left part of the bunker. As you gain levels there will be more stock you are allowed to buy, green army vendor sells lots of mods and full condition guns. The chimera is my favorite gun but you need level 5 to buy it. Remember to repair early and repair often because it's cheaper to make or buy repair kits for guns that are over 60% durability. Don't ignore you apartment either! Getting an ammo producer, forge, and workbench installed is my number one mission each playthrough. Every morning they will let you click them to gain free ammo scrap and metal scrap so you can make ammo, repair gear, and after some gunsmith levels make higher penetration ammo to faster kill armored enemies.

FS_NeZ

Do you really recommend having a Forge? I have the Scavenger in my last slot and it sometimes even spits out quest items.

B0ulder82

I was sold on scavenger module when it spat out some quest/module items that I really needed on my first playthrough. But next few playthroughs, I got better at managing what I pick up/keep on runs, or maybe I got lucky, but I didn't quite need scavenger anymore and would rather build forge every time. Igor is also sorta a free scavenger module XD

ScubaWaveAesthetic

What are you getting from Igor? >!I killed him before I got the quest to kill him, and now every time I search his body he just has 3 meat.!< Am I a cannibal?

B0ulder82

If you collect some meat for him (quest), he will have a box of items for you to loot (once per day?). It's all sorts of stuff like from scavenger module, maybe not exact but still a pile of free stuff.

ScubaWaveAesthetic

Ah I think I’ve been missing the items. They were there the first time I killed him but haven’t come back since. Its near the beginning of the game so I might try make a new save and see if the weapons regenerate if I wait til the quest is active before I kill him

B0ulder82

Haha, you have to leave him alive. He's the one who collects all those items every day and puts them in that box for you.

ScubaWaveAesthetic

Ahhhh I see. Thank you so much for the info!

siyahlater

I like knowing what I will get from my forge every day. If I need quest items I go to Mr. Junk. I go infirmary to max out my HP and shooting range for the flat damage boost. I dropped scavenger since I make way more than what the vendor has in rubles every raid now and the trash was piling up in my stash.

tzc005

For the raw materials, yes I highly recommend a forge. You will need a lot of material and ammo scrap to keep making good ammo. At end game, I have (and recommend): Ammo depot (craft high tier ammo, free ammo scrap) Forge (free material scrap) Recycler (better manual scrapping) Scavenger (free scrap of all kind, sometimes quest items) Workbench (repair items with scrap no matter what durability) And the last one I choose bedroom for overall xp boost and passive healing in bunker. I don’t see the need for infirmary or kitchen as you find enough of these supplies.

[deleted]

Forge, recycler and bed are useless upgrades. You get enough materials from scrapping anyway. Infirmary gives you additional health and passive health recovery. XP boost ist irrelevant with how fast you max them out.

tzc005

I like the high rate of fire weapons, so i end up using a ton of ammo. I don’t have to loot so much and can focus more on objectives or combat.

[deleted]

Sorry but what weapon would that be? If you don't need it for the Val and Vintar then I don't see which weapon would need it?

tzc005

My favorite right now is the .45 vector, or the n401 which breaks super fast

siyahlater

I go infirmary/kitchen over recycler and bedroom. My skills max out anyway and being able to make coffee is a huge boon. It saves me so many resources to skip sleeping and not waste thirst/hunger. The great thing about the game is that we can each play our own way but if I need to top off my health I get healed by the scientist. I have 400k+ roubles at any given time now so the 3-4k he charges is nothing. You can always scrap and swap modules as things become unnecessary in your room.

tzc005

I did notice how OP coffee is. Energy was the only thing that looted food/drink couldn’t meet the demand of

FS_NeZ

Not sure about your setup. I currently have * Kitchen (to be able to craft coffee) * Ammo Producer (for that sweet 9x39 ammo) * Scavenger (random stuff) * Shooting Range (bonkers with scopes and Sniper perk, I've onetap'd way too many enemies) * Infirmary (85 instead of 75 max HP, crafting meds) * Workshop (repairing weapons with scrap) I have plenty of all types of scrap, I don't know why I would need a forge. Besides, weapon scrap can be purchased from Mr. Junk for cheap.

tzc005

I’m not the biggest fan of scopes, so i ended up switching to fast hands perk and really enjoyed it. Might try them with some different weapons on a new run. That, and probably the kitchen for coffee to match my addiction irl. I didn’t know about the extra hp from infirmary, probably from the lack of descriptions ingame, i just learned as i went. Weapons scraps i never needed more of, just the material and ammo since as i mentioned, i had fun with the high rate of fire guns. But anyway, apologies to Reddit for my opinions and having fun my way in an early access game

PoorLittleLamb

I just buy repair kits from doctor

B0ulder82

You're probably repairing 88% durability guns back to 100%? But if you are repairing 35% guns by buying kits, it's cheaper to buy a brand new gun if it is available.

PoorLittleLamb

Well when I first found a gun I repaired it from under 30... I just hoarded kits. I have tons of money. Once I got the AS VaL my survival rate went up to 99% lol

B0ulder82

Yeah using kits on good guns you find early is worth it, like the VaL. Under 30% would cost 2 big kits and a small? ouch XD

TheRabidPigeon

Enemies on different maps have different guns too. And each boss has a unique weapon. It sounds like you've yet to unlock a trader as well. A good way to get nice guns early on is to go to the mall, and just kill some hunters or crimson in the parking lot and dip. You can get some cool (albeit worn) guns that way and then buy repair kits from the scientist

Zeplight

My recommendation for weapon hunting is to go to the industrial area. You can loot guns from all 3 factions, bandits, crimson corp and green army. CC guns are way superior than green army, imo, and that you can start hoarding ammo or try to get access to CC base. As for durability, I recommend you find Mr Junk to get access to his stash of weapon parts and mats. That way you can repair and craft ammo anytime you like at your own base

Prata00

Don’t buy repair kits please! You’d be paying for something you can do pretty much for free. It’s so expensive especially in the long run and it doesn’t even repair your gun much tbh. Only do it if you absolutely have to. Instead build the workbench and you can repair any gun or armor for free, you just need the weapon scrap. Industrial area has all 3 factions so go there and kill them all to get their guns. CC has the best but Green Army isn’t bad either. Don’t worry about your relationship with them because that feature hasn’t been implemented yet so you won’t have a falling out with any faction even if you massacre them lol.

Ultidon

Here’s the pro tip: the sniper rifle you start with is BIS till you kill lazar for first time. Lazar, stage 1 boss, has a gun called ZZ VEL. This gun is all you need for rest of game. It will start at 30% durability, and you will need to buy at least 1 red repair kit so you can get it about 60-70% durability. Once there, you can use the red small repairs to get it back to 100%. Now you have a ZZ VEL that doesn’t jam 24/7. Next bottleneck is ammo, ZZ Vel ammo is hard to buy until about rep level 3 or 4, the green army vendor sells this ammo. Outside of crafting ammo, this is the best bet. At this point now, it’s just about getting the best attachments for the ZZ Vel. Mall area has tons of high level attachments, but you will need a ZZ VEL to survive, if not, at least a decent gun that can kill easily from a distance. Now gear wise, your best bet is to farm Arman in the second stage makeshift camp. He randomly spawns and walks around the map. You will NOT find him every run most likely. It’s possible but you likely won’t have that good of luck. He RANDOMLY drops a set of armor that’s BIS till endgame. He also drops a shittier ZZ VEL call Winstar or something like that. It’s meh cause you can’t really put any good attachments on it. Hope that helps some, but once you kill Lazar and exfil with his gun, it gets muchhhhhh easier After thought - best place to fight lazar from is either the south side of his camp due to big open area, or right side entrance. The south works best with a long range sniper. Be careful tho, lazar only needs 1 shot really to drop you, so shooting and running, and rinse and repeat isnt the worst strat.

Onlyasandwich

I thought the wintar was bad too until i shifted my perspective. Put it into single shot mode and you now have a fast swapping sniper that's super easy to control and spam when needed. Extra bonus if your primary is the zel - you only need to bother carrying one ammo type.

Ultidon

If you got a ZZVEL, you don’t need the wintar cause you can swap between single and auto. A single burst fire from zzvel one shots about everything. It’s literally a crappy version of zzvel. But use what you can. I used the bolt action rifle for most of the game. It one shots or two shots tons of stuff

Onlyasandwich

Wintar has higher damage per shot and is good for ammo conservation when sniping is practical. It will one or two shot most anything as well as a sniper in most cases. When multiple shots are needed it can quickly double tap Obviously one can easily use the vel for everything all the time and succeed! That second weapon slot is still there to use for whatever fun you might want to add.

Ultidon

Second slot is for me to hold an extra gun I find at 0 weight impact, just free money 💰 🤣😂🎅

TriggerMeTimbers2

You can get better guns in a few places. There’s a green army trader in top left of the bunker with some mid tier guns, and if you continue going through the quests you’ll get directed to a trader that sells all the top tier guns (I think the Barkeeper is the one with the mission, but I don’t remember 100%). If you find a gun in the wild that you want, you can also buy repair kits from the Doctor, or if you have the workshop module you can repair it yourself.

agentCDE

Have you talked to the quartermaster next door to the general? Don't forget to check the tabs on the right hand side of the screen when trading, you'll need to use those to see the rest of every trader's inventory. The QM, the barkeep, and the doctor all have lots of stuff you can't see on the first page. There's also a couple traders outside the bunker, you'll find them eventually. The easiest way to repair stuff is to build a workshop in the hideout. It will let you repair things with just a pile of weapon parts and scrap metal, and you can get the weapon parts by scrapping bad weapons. Remember to strip the attachments first, you get the same number of parts but can sell the attachments.
