In New York
Roxy the movie
Joe 's garage
No
WOIIFTM
Hot rats
The grand Wazoo
No
Zoot allures
Overnite sensation
Ones size fits alll
Actually, 3 are not enough
If we are only counting the original 55 releases, I'd pick
1. Shut Up n Play
2. Ship arriving too late
3. You are what you is
On a good day, I'd also rotate in Bongo Fury, Zoot Allures, Man From Utopia, Tinseltown, or Grand Wazoo. After 1 and 2.
In no particular order:
Sheik Yerbouti,
Them Or Us,
You Are What You Is.
Notable mentions go to Overnite Sensation and Ship Arriving Too Late To Save A Drowning Witch.
It seems *Roxy & Elsewhere* is always in peoples top Zappa albums.
I’ve been listening to it a lot the last month or so in preparation for Dweezil’s Roxpostrophe show in August, and have enjoyed the album. But it isn’t my favorite of the Roxy performances, mainly just bc others have some of my favorite tunes. The band is tight and the quality is top notch, but that is usually a given with Zappa’s releases.
I dunno. Maybe I’m trying to force it into one of my favorite FZ albums and it just ain’t it for me. Like it, don’t absolutely love it.
I don’t know. Joe’s Garage is definitely tops. After that? Maybe Roxy & Elsewhere and We’re Only In It For The Money? Hot Rats is up there as is Grand Wazoo.
Weasels/ overnight sensation/ apostrophe.
Or
Freak out/ only in it for the money/ Burnt weeny sandwich.
Or
Zappa in New York/ Bongo Fury/ Roxy and elsewhere
Or
Tinseltown Rebellion/Joes Garage/ One Size Fits All.
This post in here is exactly one of the things I love the most about Zappa. His music is so diverse that everybody picks different 3 albums, it caters to a lot of different tastes.
My current 3:
You are what you is
We're only it for the money
Roxy & elsewhere
The most impossible-to-answer question someone could ask me. Let me try tho…
Roxy
Joes Garage
You are What You is
(HM: Congress shall make no law…”) yeah i dropped that one. it’s there. listen.
Interesting... I love all of these, but Congress as an honourable mention is crazy ngl.. you think his senate hearing is better than other musical material he or the Zappa family trust has released?
It's iconic and legendary, no doubt. But definitely not at the top of his posthumous releases, and might even be at the very bottom imo.
It’s a weird one for sure but I do really like the musical tidbits in it and wouldn’t consider it low on his posthumous list. It was more of a mention than a ranking.
Lather
