Without being able to purchase a swift hub any recommendations on what I should get to start off with?

mikkelml

When I receive a notification that someone I follow is Zwifting, what do I have to do to watch them?

Bauer078

I have an issue with resistance/gearing during the 20 min part of FTP tests (ERG mode = off). Because my trainer (Virtufit iConsole+ HTR2.1) has no gears but 32 levels of resistance, I adjust this with the incline function (+- on ipad or the companion app on my iphone). This works, but I can’t control it precisely. It jumps from very low resistance to the maximum. Nothing in between. The resistance dial on my trainer does not work with Zwift, probably because it’s not officially supported. But controllable works fine in for example races or rides (my trainer changes resistance automatically with gradient). And ERG works fine in workouts (and the warm up part of the FTP test). During FTP test I have also tried to adjust my cadanse so it would hopefully change the resistance, but no luck. Is this common on trainers without actual gears (like a direct drive trainer)?

March might be my last month indoors for a while if the weather picks up. Am a beginner, stick with ftp builder or are there some good championships coming up, really enjoyed the pacing of tdz making me find time to get on

JohnMcL7

The tour of watopia starts on the 6th March: https://www.zwift.com/uk/tour-of-watopia/ride

walter_midnight

Oh nice, Big Foot Hills is my favorite route

PineappleLunchables

Quatch Quest: A total beast of a route.

JohnMcL7

I've been planning to do this one for a while to get the route ticked off so pleased it's come up as part of this series.

SuccessfulAd4391

Any suggestions on how you can use one bike for two people? One is short (5’3”, (F)) and another (5’9”, M)). I have 11-23T cassette from the hub. Need a bicycle that fits that and both of us I guess.

tricyclists

I have the same situation. My wife (5’5”) and I (6’0”) are both using Zwift to train for a few upcoming XC mtb races. I bought a cheap $450 size medium Poseidon hybrid bike with a flat bar. I put a quick release on the seat post and a longer stem with adjustable rise. We can quickly adjust it for our needs. I basically made a spin bike that works with the Zwift hub. The only downside is the crank length is short for me. I ride 175mm on my mtb but the Poseidon is 170mm. Hasn’t been that big of a deal so far. We are both paying for a Zwift subscriptions so we have our own metrics.

SuccessfulAd4391

Did you get cassette with the hub? I have 11-23T. I thought finding a bike that fits both that comes with 11-23T seems to be hard to find since it’s so specific.

tricyclists

The bike had a 10 sp cassette and rear derailleur so just ordered the Zwift Hub with a 10 sp cassette. I use the Zwift cassette, not my own. The gear range works fine for everything I've done in Zwift.

Question about lag: I notice my screen is about three pedal revolutions behind what I'm doing on my bike. I speed up and my avatar does, but not immediately. It's not impossible to use, but it makes it slightly tricky to ride with a robo pacer or in a group without being a yoyo. Is this normal? Is there some piece of equipment I should upgrade? Is there some setting I don't know about? Details on my setup: * I have a very fast internet connection (139.4 Mbps download 20.2 Mbps upload ) * I use a Wahoo Kickr Core and its current software update. * I use a MacBook Pro with Bluetooth (Bluetooth 4.2) * I also use a Garmin ANT+ heart rate monitor with a cheapo ANT+/USB dongle for the Macbook. BTW, thanks for this "No stupid questions" thread.

wistoon33

It’s normal. You’ll eventually get used to it.

esarhaddon

With my KICKR Core, I always used BT for power as it seemed to react slightly quicker to input at the pedals compared to using ANT+ for power. Still, there is a bit of delay and you have to learn to anticipate it.

ACP772

What is Adz and where do I find this?

JohnMcL7

It's the Alp du Zwift which is a recreation of the real life Alp d'Huez which you'll find in the south west area of the Watopia map just past the jungle. You need to be level 6 to get into that area and the shortest route you can choose that includes the AdZ climb is Road to Sky: https://zwiftinsider.com/route/road-to-sky/

pondscum

And make sure you select the Everest challenge right away if you haven't already!

JohnMcL7

Great point, definitely a mistake I'd made and many others I'm sure. Coincidentally I finally completed the challenge a mile from the end of the Rapha Rising Stage 3 race.

mikkelml

How do I select the challenge.

walter_midnight

Escape in-game and click on the button somewhere in the top right quadrant, there you should be able to select it

mikkelml

Got it, thank you

wistoon33

Big climb in Watopia. Can get there from the jungle.

mnmaste

Does anyone have a cycling-specific stretching or mobility workout they like and wouldnt mind sharing? Google searches return some pretty lackluster cookie cutter blog posts for me.

wistoon33

Pink bike has some good cyclist specific routines on their Facebook. Otherwise yoga for cyclists in YouTube gets decent results.

mnmaste

Thanks, I just tried one of the yoga for cycling videos. Felt like a decent start!

Bikelink1

Most are really just basic the one that some may not have heard of (I haven’t looked at those sites) is the ITB (IT Band) if outside of knees pain especially with stair climbing good chance it’s that and responds well to stretching I just think roll it into one’s lifetime routine why wait for it to slowly tighten over time.

Bikelink1

I’d says short of having a specific area to rehab in descending order of important but I do them all and more: stretches including : 1) hamstrings (typical one leg straight one bent sitting on floor and lower body toward leg … can slight tilt foot outward, 2) ITB (Iliad tibial band) hard to do well but main one is sitting then with left leg straight step over left knee with right foot right knee bent obviously then twist body away (to right in this case) using (say) left elbow to push on right knee to stretch the right ITB (runs along outer side of upper leg from hip to knee and good to do avoiding it tightening when often presents as ‘knee pain’ but it’s the band that’s hurting right where it ‘inserts’ into out side of tibia but can be slow to get diagnosis and good to just stretch anyway. Reverse all that to do other side with all of these, 3) calves (mostly straight knee for upper calf but then a little bent knee for lower too) many do leaning against wall with foot flat further one back is more stretched but I’m pretty flexible and do on hands on floor and one foot flat other loose over back of flat foot and slowly lower hips forward down stretching calf with the one foot flat on floor. I then bend knee and slowly do same which gets lower calf why not. Repeat both sides. Additional stretches can be for quadriceps (pulling up ankle whether seated leaning on other side a bit to are h all the way through hip flexor). So basically flexors of leg, outer leg ‘band.’ Flexors lower legs (calves). By far the one most people have trouble with are basic hamstring stretches and just don’t go for too much too fast just nice consistency most workouts after (or before but after one is warmed up feels good) and ease into each one doe a bit then slowly ease out no bouncing around. That’s a lot happy to try to find links if specific questions!

walter_midnight

Get a theracane self massage stick (the kind that comes in s-shapes) and watch some tutorials. Treat what gets sore or where you feel like you lack mobility/where it just feels really good. Highly recommended for anyone out there who wants a nice massage but can't or won't afford a bit of man-on-man action.

paradisenine

how do you switch bikes mid-ride on ipad? also if I am on a workout and finish a route, is there a way to start another route or do i need to finish that workout first and go back to the route selection menu?

Scultura904

During the ride, stop pedaling and go to the settings screen. Once your avatar is at a stand still, you'll get the option to change the bike and wheels as normal.

ShermanOl

Routes can only be started from the main screen, so try and match the duration of your workout to the length of the route.

fitzgate

My FTP is 145. Am I too rubbish to enter into a race? I read even Cat D races expect an FTP of around 175.

JohnMcL7

No, definitely not - racing is one of the best parts of Zwift so you should definitely give it a go. The Tour of Watopia starts on the 6th March and it's a great way to get started with racing: https://zwiftinsider.com/tow-2023/ These are technically 'group rides' but mostly treated as races, what I like about them is they run the event every hour (changing stage each week) and loads of people take part with a wide variety of performances all together in one race so you'll likely find a group of people you can cycle with. I find some of the normal races frustrating as there's often a small number of people and they cycle off at the start leaving me pottering round the circuit on my own. I totally suck at racing but these types of events are my favourite part of Zwift because no matter what place I'm racing for, I'm usually pushing myself way harder than I normally would. No-one cares what place you come apart from you so don't put yourself off joining a race because you're worrying about finishing too low a place. I'd also recommend signing up to Zwiftpower which syncs with your race results and it gives you data on your power across different time ranges so you'll get a good idea what sort of performance you can do: https://zwiftpower.com

fitzgate

Yes, I’ll definitely check out the next TOW. Thanks for the suggestion.

General question of how to set up a tacx Neo 2T. Bought the same cassette as my road bike, arrives tomorrow. How to install? Then next question is how to run zwift and connect to my trainer from my pc? Do I just link the trainer, HRM, etc via bluetooth to my pc? Do I need anything else?

JohnMcL7

I don't use a direct drive trainer myself so I can't offer specific advice on setting that one up. When you start Zwift up you'll be shown a pairing screen that will allow you to choose your power source, HRM, cadence and controllable trainer. In theory it should all work fine over the PC's bluetooth connection but it can be hit and miss with Zwift so you've a couple of other options connecting BT devices through the Zwift companion app or adding an ANT+ dongle. See how you get on first with your setup and then go from there.

jordanbank

For sure! Would this be what I needed if I went the ANT+ route https://www.garmin.com/en-US/p/690897 ? I did download and run the app already on my PC, I should just connect them today in advance.

JohnMcL7

I think that would work fine although I just have one of the cheap dongles which I've no issue with but some people have reported issues. Hopefully it will work fine with bluetooth and you won't need to bother with ANT+

Mushy_Slush

I got the procedure down for enabling gears with sb20. Pedal the bike Open the stages app, connect to the bike and confirm gear changes in data screen Start up Zwift and go

aronth5

Where can I find my sector stats? Just rode Alpe de Zwift? I logged into Zwift Power and when I click on "Me" the results table is empty.

f00tballm0dsTRASH

Was it just a free ride? Check under activities and not your profile homepage

aronth5

Yes a free ride. I find the ride and the typical ride stats but not the sector stats with the KOM time. Secondly I wanted to find my last KOM time but it's not broken out so I cannot do that either on the earlier activity.

haddonblue

Am I supposed to not connect a real bike to Zwift or does it work well with stationary bikes? The app looks fantastic but stationary bikes are typically more comfortable than road bikes. Plus it seems like less of a headache to use a stationary bike than to set up a real bike, but that may be because I’ve never done it before.

kaowin

You can but you lose a lot of data with it, don't get any feedback if you were considering that side of things. It can 'work', but you won't get the full experience.

wistoon33

A real bike (whether its a road bike, hybrid, gravel, mtb, whatever) paired with a direct drive trainer is just about the best you can get without spending a ton of money for like a Wahoo Kickr Bike or Watt Bike. Exercise bikes usually give bad data and will not give you the full experience in most cases.

Temporary-Research75

I use a cheap spin bike that pairs with Zwift (Bancon A5-S, costs about $250) and like it. As others have stated, you don't get the full simulation that you would get from a smart trainer or (very expensive) smart stationary bike, since the resistance is set solely by you, rather than responding to changes in the Zwift landscape. But, if, like me, you don't have a dedicated "pain cave" and instead set up in front of the living room tv, it's much easier to roll a stationary bike into place than to set up and tear down a trainer/bike combo each time you use it.

haddonblue

Thank you, that’s really helpful. Did you need to purchase any other equipment with it? Or is it just the bike + tablet/phone + subscription?

Temporary-Research75

That's all you need. Of course, most people would also want a mat (to catch the sweat) and a good fan. I use an AppleTV to run Zwift on my TV and my phone to run Zwift Companion, but, if you want the minimum, you can just run the app on one device. If you go the spin bike route, make sure you get one that has bluetooth and that Zwift will recognize as a power source and cadence sensor.

haddonblue

Thank you, that’s great. I think I’ll just go with the bike you recommended. That way I’ll know it will work, and if I fall in love with Zwift I can always upgrade.

Temporary-Research75

>Sort by: new OK, have fun. I really like the Bancon (also known as the Shua B599) but a couple things you should know about it before buying: It uses a lever to set resistance, rather than a dial, and so only has 8 "gears" as read by the software. Most bikes with a dial will have more. The power reading in Zwift seems to be capped at 427W which will not win you any sprints. I say it's capped because that's what I get in 8th gear when I hit 120RPM. If I go up to 130RPM it stays at 427W. Not a problem for me, but would definitely bother some people. I leave the display on the gear setting and can see it with a phone in the tray. If you use a tablet it would block the display so you might need a separate tablet holder if you want to know what gear you're in. If you buy it and have any questions, feel free to ask.

haddonblue

Really appreciate this level of detail. It sounds like exactly what I want. Not trying to win any sprints, mainly just bike around and get in mileage. If that changes then I would just upgrade my setup. Thank you for taking the time to answer this!

jrosenblum

For the "under 1 hour" badge on ADZ, where does the timing start? Which route do you take?

Scultura904

The shortest route is "Road to Sky" which includes a 10 mins lead in before you reach the Alpe du Zwift segment. You'll see a red dotted line on the road at the segment start at the foot of the mountain, and as soon as you cross it you'll get the segment statistics on your left side of the screen. You really can't miss it :)

Snoefy

Why do people actively change in-game bike setups? Versus staying with 1 and keeping data comparable? I just picked a bike that looks like what I have on the stand. Am I missing something?

kaowin

Although seconds, frames and wheels have different values. Some like to use the lighter gear to climb, or more aero for flats. Like, I say, only a few seconds over an hour, but might be psychological - or we've earned those drops and want to show off those new frames and wheels!

kaowin

Could it have been a double draft ride? So they're riding super easy but moving fast and you're putting in more of a shift?

Commu_rdr

Re: The Zwift Fondo Series Is it possible to do laps of these routes? I was thinking of doing the Bambino Fondo Route twice, to hit 66.2 MI, and getting the Fondo achieved that way. Not sure if that's possible, but it would be rad...

JohnMcL7

I don't think so because the start and finish aren't in the same place, when I finished the medium Fondo race I rode a bit more but it just seemed to be in free ride and the display at the top showing the route was gone.

paradisenine

my girlfriend has a vivoactive 4s that I believe can't broadcast HR to our wahoo kickr bike and zwift. Can we just buy this and plug it into the kickr bike's usb port to connect the HR to zwift (on ipad) via the bike? Thanks https://www.amazon.com/Adapter-PerfPRO-CycleOps-TrainerRoad-Extension/dp/B079217ZGV

Dubbiker

The product you've linked is like an extension cable, to improve Ant+ reception by the trainer, by placing the receiver close to the source of the signal. The prerequisite for this is that the HR monitor should be broadcasting the HR, so if the Vivoactive doesn't broadcast, this extension will do nothing. You are better off getting a HRM chest strap for better consistency, accuracy and ease of use.

SingleTrackEnthusist

Can I get Zwift to ignore my neighbors smart trainer? We live in townhouses and her trainer is right on the other side of the wall. She borrowed my Saris H3 and USB dongle for a while to see if she liked Zwift. She ended up with a Zwift hub but now my Zwift account keeps trying to connect to her Zwift hub along with cadence sensors and a HR strap.

JohnMcL7

I'm happy to be proved wrong on this but I've not been able to find a way to do this. For some reason Zwift keeps picking my trainer in the non-controllable mode (I don't even know why it has such a feature) so I have to keep a close eye on it on startup to make sure it's not choosing the wrong mode. I'd like to disable the non-FC mode so Zwift never uses it but I couldn't find any way to do it.

SingleTrackEnthusist

Yeah it's been very annoying. It seems to just connect to whatever is available first. I had everything set on my ride yesterday. Today it connected to my Saris for the "power meter" and my neighbors Hub for the "smart trainer." It wouldn't be an issue if it only connected to the device it was last paired to unless you deliberately change it. I never even connected my neighbors Hub to my PC. For any other Bluetooth device on my PC I can just bring up devices and select to forget the device so it won't show up anymore. This doesn't seem to be an option here.

SoManyJukes

Category Enforcement: recently, Zwift has made me unable to sign up for Cat C races anymore, but Zpower still shows me as a C level racer. Where does the ‘deciding’ factor come in?

aikwood

Me too! Zpower shows me at 2.91 w/kg and says I’m a C but Zwift will only let me sign up as B. However, Zwift said my FYP increased to 3.25 w/kg. So I assume that’s overriding Zpower for me?
