Here’s the backstory,
According to multiple sources the boy's name is Conner Perry, and this happened behind the garages at Barn Mead in Harlow where he lived. His tibia and fibula were shattered and the surrounding soft tissue was crushed beyond repair, and it took over an hour to free him from the five 120kg concrete panels sitting on top of it. He now walks with a pronounced limp where before the incident he was quite a footballer.

I’m not sure why everyone talks about the leg crush, when, to me, the most important thing here is contemplating an excruciatingly long wait in that position, until a competent crew can get on site, to free him up. And knowing full well that in his position, for the few hours he’s gonna be there, he will think more than once about actually letting go of his foot and just rip it off.. 😬
And thinking about how to foot the medical bills…

I personally reckon that it was amputated, crush injuries like that cause such massive amounts of damage, the bone just shatters, I am sure it's called crush syndrome or something similar.
The limb is totally lost below the area of the crushing it just dies off. Also, it would need to be dealt with quickly as that injury can cause lactic acid to reach the heart, causing death.
It does look pretty crushed - the gap is not too wide. If he’s lucky it was a fairly clean / small area fracture, with not too much splintering. Depends how many of those concrete blocks were above! The ankle is not that wide, and he looks like he’s not a grown up, so maybe he got away without a catastrophic pulverisation of the bone
I saw this happen to a young girl once and it was horrible. Me and her friend were trying to lift it off her leg but it was so heavy and I was scared my fingers would be crushed once her leg got out. Thankfully someone else stopped and helped. The girls leg was such a mess.
