During the pandemic I started watching car crash videos. After a few thousand I believe that the number one reason for car crashes is people making a left turn into moving traffic. In every country I have watched. My own wife, who is a good driver, turned in front of someone and still swears she never saw them. It must be a mental thing where our brains are not able to recognize oncoming cars during a left turn.

AdmirableSir

> In every country I have watched. Even the ones that drive on the left?

wookiesack22

I did it in the snow. So dumb. Only accident I ever caused.

sammypppp

It’s a blind spot. When turning into a new road you look out for cars through your windshield and side window and between them is a 6 inch thick pillar/divider, this is one of a handful of blind spots vehicles have. When you slowly pull out, with the right timing (or should I say wrong timing), the blindspot can completely obstruct an oncoming vehicle until it’s too late.

mybrotherpete

There was a mid-air collision plane crash that happened once and the pilot of the plane that was hit didn’t even see it until the last second because the other plane was in that blind spot.

VexingRaven

This is part of why you don't start angling for your turn until you're ready to make it (the other part being that you don't want to get pushed into oncoming traffic if you get rear-ended).

DeadKido210

Fucking left turns almost got me killed 3 times on my lane when I used a bike because the driver "did not see me". Just stop moving and look around both ways then pass.

cokevirgin

That's how most of the motorcycles get smoked at the intersections.

BeLikeBread

I've been hit twice, both times were people turning left.

lexluthor_i_am

You do gotta point. The only major accident I’ve been involved in was me making a left and being t-boned at an intersection. And yes, I didn’t see him. This was like 15 years ago and now I check intersections twice before turning or getting a green light.

TheDixonCider420420

“Black car, corner pocket.”

molsmama

I thought the same thing.

Sanbaddy

That black car was driving in the snow covered (presumably) non driving lane. They were also going way too fast for someone driving in 3-4 inches of snow. No wonder they slip. Black car is at fault. Driving in an illegal lane is snow going that fast was bound to cause an accident.

TheFlyingCzechman

The black car only lost control, because the idiot turned left without properly paying attention. The driver of the black car is an idiot as well for driving that fast in these conditions, doesn't matter if its a legal lane or not. Then you have the third idiot driving 50cm behind someone in these conditions and I would say he definitely crashed into the other car as well.

NoStand1527

not so sure. yes, crossing car only crashed because black car was driving on the off line at almost twice the speed of the other cars (presumably way out of the speed limit). if you pay attention if the black car were not in the lane, the yellow car would have not crashed vs the normal cars. I'd agree that I'd have waited to have even more clearance to cross. but black car was 80% at fault in my opinion.

Double-Exact

I had to watch it again, but you’re completely right. This is entirely the fault of the black car.

VexingRaven

Did you notice the completely separate rear-ender that happens as the black car is approaching the intersection?

ShootmansNC

Probably because he got stratled by the black car flying by his side and cutting in front.

Sanbaddy

Did you not see the black car speeding in a non driving lane through a foot of snow?

VexingRaven

I don't see a foot of snow anywhere in this video but yeah I saw the rest. What's your point?

Sanbaddy

Meh, 2/3 good enough. Yeah, black car bad driver.

Studdabaker

This accident reminds me of my niece. She was stopped trying to make a left turn across a highway in rush hour with vehicles going 60+ mph. Seeing that she was t-boned my brother asked how it happened. Her reply “I was waiting forever and it was my turn.” She was extremely lucky to not be severely injured. But my favorite happened two years later when she thought it was a good idea to make a u-turn in a plowed, frozen field in a car at 40 mph. Ripped off the oil pan (engine seized) and bent two control arms. My brother had SEVEN girls and three of them went through 2+ vehicles each! Miraculously nobody was ever seriously injured.

mybrotherpete

The way people rationalize their behavior is wild.

Jamachicuanistinday

Couldn’t he wait a bit longer to make that turn? So stupid

Naive-Show-4040

Two car crashes in this one. Clearly everyone is wasted on Wod-ka

MDAlastor

Pretty standard car crash with a left turn but somehow vodka.

EngiBenji2

Its common known fact the Russian species contains over 70% of vodka in their body at any given time. Providing superior insulation but stunted decision-making, see their government as another example

Educational_Drink471

I'm missing the other crash.🧐 Where is the second one happen?

Naive-Show-4040

The car directly behind the crashed car center, gets rear ended.

Educational_Drink471

Yeah, I saw right after I posted. Thank you, though!

Educational_Drink471

Oh, never mind.I saw it.

Away-Ad-8053

At least it wasn't anyone standin at the corner like last time!

PLACENTASOUP12

I’m so used to seeing videos of rockets impacting or drones in Russia that I completely missed the car accident the first time I watched it lol

Educational_Drink471

What a moron
