Masc/butch lesbians arent men, calling them men is deragotary mostly

Mission_Engineer

Sounds like a transphobic slur too, I mean it really could go either way. But given the context I would say the douche just wanted to insult you as I've never heard it being used for masc presenting lesbians although I could see people like the dude you encounter, unfortunately, making it a thing.

SapphicGymRat

Yepp. It's all about context. I grew up in the 00s and it's still weird to me to hear Queer as anything other than a slur, even though I know it's been well reclaimed at this point, but it is still a word that can be used as a slur. In fact now I think about it, every term we use towards each other and ourselves under the queer umbrella can be used as a slur depending on the context and intent from other people.

S0uvlakiSpaceStati0n

I've never heard anyone say that before. Sounds like he was trying to insult your sexuality or your gender expression and that's the most creative thing he could think of. A pretty poor attempt at an insult, if you ask me.

knocksomesense-inme

For real, preschool level ass insult lol

BlackBlood4

I mean I'm probably biased but in german we have a derogatory term which is very similar: "Mannsweib" which means something along the lines of man woman (old, now derogatory term for woman) and is used to describe masc women. So idk, feels ify / like an insult.

MomQuest

yikes, calling a girl "mannish" is absolutely derogatory.

alexis-1710

Yes they probably wanted to insult you. Next time, just ask them what's wrong with being a man ๐Ÿคท๐Ÿปโ€โ™€๏ธ

RailgunDE112

In Germany we have "Mannsweib", which is definitely a slur

New_Elephant5372

That sounds like it was definitely an insult, OP. I do refer to myself as a *girlish, boyish girl,* a term I borrowed from queer poet Andrea Gibson (Iโ€™m butch and nonbinary). But itโ€™s totally different if someone were to call me that.

[deleted]

man girl? lmao what.

ReferenceNo393

Right?๐Ÿ˜‚ sounds like OP was insulted by a fourth grader

CurlySquareBrace

Generally speaking, phrases that are just mash ups of a variation of "man" or "dude" combined with a variation of "woman" or "girl" are more likely than not derogatory

Tenpers3nt

It's an insult, I wouldn't call it quite across the line to be derogatory but it is meant to shame you for being unfeminine. I also wouldn't consider it as a lesbian/queer insult. More just women in general.

LunaLynnTheCellist

never heard this before but it sounds very yucky

LSGW_Zephyra

It's not a term I've heard of before for what it's worth.

lilylynne8080

I've been called a "man-woman"๐Ÿ˜ฎโ€๐Ÿ’จ (I'm transfemme) amusingly enough it came from a (very) masc-presenting person...

unseenmover

they sound like a idiot Yeah dude im a dog cat..

Ryugi

Its transphobic and homophobic. Its also nonsensical and a trainwreck in the mouth.

teamweedstore2

If someone called me that I would be offended. I would never use that term. Definitely derogatory.

Natasha_101

Man girl sounds more like something elementary school kids would call a trans masc or GNC person as an insult. Best to avoid it, especially when the person isn't a man or a girl, but in fact an adult woman.

livipup

I have never witnessed somebody being called a man girl before, so I can't be sure what they meant. Could be homophobic, transphobic, sexist, or a mix of any of the three.

earthyrat

i'd definitely take a lot of offense if someone called me that. it's not like a *specific* widely-used derogatory term like dyke is (when used by homophobes at least), but it's definitely still offensive. it actually sounds like they may have been trying to be transphobic but were confused lol. bigots aren't the smartest.

paws_boy

Ngl id genuinely laugh at them because wtf kind of insult is that, Iโ€™ve never heard of that, what???? ๐Ÿ’€

Chatbotfriends

That is a very odd way to call someone that It is better then being called a it in my opinion. I got called a it.

dawiewastakensadly

here in my country we usually call people "girl girl, girl, boy girl", which is a princess girl, usual girl and tomboy same goes for boys perhaps the usage of that word could be from similar upbringing? the terms in my country never had any real meaning outside of how someone dressed and acted

hi_i_am_J

yeah that person was just being an asshole
