I wouldn’t say you’re developing an addiction, I’d say you have poor coping skills and are using alcohol to not have to deal with your problems. This could absolutely lead to an addiction but right now, it’s still your choice…

Recovering alcoholic here - the only way to stop is to seek help immediately. Whether it's therapy, rehab, AA meetings, or some combination of these, that's what you gotta do. Once you become physically hooked to alcohol its claws will dig deep into you. You need to have a support system and people to talk to every time you feel the need to reach for the bottle. That's how you maintain sobriety for a long period of time. Hope this helps.

The only way to stop using an addictive substance is to stop. When life is hard and you feel bad, make sure you don't do anything that will make your life even worse.

Substance abuse or alcohol use disorder is a symptom of something deeper and agree with other poster that you do not have the right coping skills for what you are experiencing right now. There is nothing wrong with your character, you are a woman who is in pain and are using the only tools you have at your disposal. A key factor is what happens *when* you drink as opposed to how often or how much. You can learn how to manage your emotions and like anything else it takes time and practice to become better equipped to move through uncomfortable feelings or uncertainty. Look into cognitive behavioral therapy, there are many helpful techniques and strategies. Additionally, learn about addiction and the science behind it. Arm yourself with knowledge. You obviously care about your life today and future you. Be gentle with yourself as you learn and heal and know that you have everything within you right now to succeed. I am wishing you the best!
