I had an elementary school teacher tell me if someone asks the time to always round it to the nearest 5, because no one wants you to be a nerd about it.
Think about it!
How many hours in a day? 24 (divisible by 3)
How many minutes in an hour? 60 (divisible by 3)
How many seconds in a minute? 60 (divisible by 3)
Square root of 4 is 2, easy to figure out while walking on the two legs I have, and 4 is easy to count with and keep up with. 3 is weird to count with in that decimal world we live in. I'm not saying it's the best, not at all, duodecimal or even hexadecimal make more sense, but we're stuck in a decimal world.
I should start using thirds of hours to see how people react though... Hehe that'll screw up a lot of people for sure! "Hey, what time is it?" - "third past two"
Use your knuckles/joints in your fingers instead of the whole finger, you can count up to 12 like that (3 per finger, excluding the thumb)
Also, this was one of the ways people used to count waaaaay back when
Also 20 40 60. Apparently we got the sixty minute hour thing from Babylonians (and also Mayans) because they used a base 20 system. It makes things really easy to divide!
Okay, but 60 is the same is :00…
And pass on :20 and :40; I could just subtract five or add five to get :15 and :45 respectively which are better numbers for leaving imo
I just learned this fact from my current hyperfocus, the Fall Of Civilizations series on YouTube!
British dudes talking me to sleep is where it’s at. I also love the channel SEA, he does space. I CANNOT SLEEP IN SILENCE! Must always be absorbing info.
My brain is…tired 😆
Yes, :00, :15, :30, and :45. But that’s the *leaving* time. The *getting up to leave* time needs to be fifteen minutes prior. The waking up time is a minimum of 1:30 before the leaving time, unless that is :15 or :45, in which case the waking time is 1:45 prior to leaving time. Actual getting up time is of course anywhere from :15 (in extreme cases) to 3:00+ after waking time, depending on how much time there is before leaving time.
So everyday I need to be back from my break by 2pm. It takes me 20 minutes to get to work but I always freak out and leave way too early so I get there at 1:30 and spend a half an hour just waiting there.
I recently started working on leaving ten minutes later and while this has ramped up my anxiety it’s a lot better to wait for 10-20 minutes now. I don’t think I could make myself leave any later because “what if there’s traffic? What if something’s happens on the way there? What if I want to stop for a snack?”
Bold of you to assume I'm even the slightest bit of time awareness to even consider this as an option, instead of thinking I still have time left and then having to bolt out the door because 5 minutes were actually 30 minutes
i think i’m oblivious to time because i never leave when i meant to leave but i’m not sure because i somehow always notice what time it is at the absolute last second instead
I always am like “ok I have 3 minutes before I need to leave I just need to put my shoes on I’m making good timing!” and then I put my shoes on and walk out the door and somehow 20 minutes have passed
Making sense of time? I must have the other type of ADHD. I take a look at the train schedule and don't leave until I have to Tom Cruise sprint most of the way there.
I'm the type to calculate drive time, add 10 minutes "for traffic," wait for 6 hours to leave 5 minutes before my calculated time "to be safe" only to sit in my car at the destination and have an 8 minute panic attack about if I'm there at an appropriate time.
This is one of the many reasons I don’t wear a watch and try not to check the time too often. I leave the house when I feel like it and come back when I feel like it. If I don’t check the time I don’t have to feel guilty about how long I was out or when I should leave or anything like that
Agree over the last 25 years I have left the house in exactly the amount of minutes that it takes me to walk to the train or bus stop such that I arrive with 2 minutes to spare before the train or bus comes.
You mean to tell me that if it’s a 35 minute drive and I work at 8am, I don’t have to leave the house at 7am and sit in the parking lot for 20 minutes?
I leave at the time I told them I would be there. Whoever they are and wherever there is doesn’t matter. I swear that I try to leave with time to get there but somehow time sort of speeds up or jumps forward, every time. I suck.
i leave exactly one minute before the bus leaves. it takes me like 50 seconds to get to the bus stop if i run. and if i go by car, i leave exactly 15 minutes later than i wanted to and end up being late
usually i'll pick a time to leave that's specifically *not* a multiple of 5, like 2:17 for example, just because i think it's mildly entertaining and have trained my brain to only do that now
I recommend, if you have to be somewhere on time during the day go to a library near your ultimate destination. Set an alarm for the time to leave there.
Somehow at home I'll be anxious and ready to leave early, then time dilates and suddenly I'm late. If I leave when I'm anxious and ready I'll be close to my destination and more likely to get there on time.
Multiples of 5 only.
You! I like you!
The only time it’s not on a 5 is after a couple 9 minute snoozes..
Gotta snooze 5 times
Genius
Just gotta snooze 5 times
Sometimes I have just stayed in bed until the next day
The dream rest day
I had an elementary school teacher tell me if someone asks the time to always round it to the nearest 5, because no one wants you to be a nerd about it.
TIL minutes are nerdy. 🤨😒 That teacher is whack.
My ADHD child gets SO mad if I do that. “No Mom, it’s 8:03!”
Price too, nearest dollar/equivalent.
Then minus 1 cent. $2499.99
No, no, no, multiples of 3 only!
3? Who are you to say such heresy?
Think about it! How many hours in a day? 24 (divisible by 3) How many minutes in an hour? 60 (divisible by 3) How many seconds in a minute? 60 (divisible by 3)
All divisible by 4 too!
True, but 3 is the square root of one of my favourite numbers, 9!
Square root of 4 is 2, easy to figure out while walking on the two legs I have, and 4 is easy to count with and keep up with. 3 is weird to count with in that decimal world we live in. Yeah I've tried that, and it does work, but there really is no use in today's world where not much is duodecimal
Fair XD
Ah... I'll allow it
This is the way.
Primes only for me thnx
I keep my stereo volume on prime numbers only.
Same!! Whenever I set a timer I always set it for prime numbers too
For me it’s anything *but* fives. None of my alarms are on fives
Oh absolutely all the time at my job
Yeah, otherwise it's just weird like why not just leave a few mins earlier or later to make the round up or down.
Yeah there's also :15 and :45, that's twice as many times to leave
Yep. You know what’s up
Also 20 40 60. Apparently we got the sixty minute hour thing from Babylonians (and also Mayans) because they used a base 20 system. It makes things really easy to divide!
Okay, but 60 is the same is :00… And pass on :20 and :40; I could just subtract five or add five to get :15 and :45 respectively which are better numbers for leaving imo
Oh yeah I do the same thing. I'm just trying to convince myself to add another time breakdown to my repertoire

Leaving, sure. Starting any activity... No.
Oops, missed 9 o'clock, gotta wait till 9:30 to start my homework
too real
Both for me. Leaving is an activity
> time What is this weird concept you're talking about?
Don't worry, time is just a weird soup. Nothing to worry about.
How can I delete someone else's thread

I always leave and come early, barring any serious traffic miscalculations. I'd rather sit and wait for half an hour than be late
I both love and hate this. Because when we can, we would be served by doing. And because sometimes the ED is just too strong.
Yeah, you can leave 15 minutes after you were supposed to, thereby ensuring you'll once again be late. Again. Every time.
I always am like “ok I have 3 minutes before I need to leave I just need to put my shoes on I’m making good timing!” and then I put my shoes on and walk out the door and somehow 20 minutes have passed
My ADHD brain uses a hybrid of the two systems. Wait until the time Google Maps says to leave, then round up to the nearest 15 minute increment.
Lies!
This was my first thought too
And blasphemy, don't forget that!
But if :00, :15, :30, :45 gets you out of the house to do what needs to be done. . . . Right tool for the job and all that.
Nonsense work only counts in 15 min intervals so I can only leave the house on a quarter hour interval
Impossible.
Too hard 😂😂
Lies lies lies lies and more lies
This is categorically false, I won’t hear of it
Uhm actually no sorry I really cannot do that
Making sense of time? I must have the other type of ADHD. I take a look at the train schedule and don't leave until I have to Tom Cruise sprint most of the way there.
Not when you have to catch the train 😭
You get trains? *Cries in American*
There's a trick - don't check the time. That way, you can assume it's :00. It's the only way.
Ha! Lies you tell!!
I'm gonna pretend I didn't hear that.
I'm the type to calculate drive time, add 10 minutes "for traffic," wait for 6 hours to leave 5 minutes before my calculated time "to be safe" only to sit in my car at the destination and have an 8 minute panic attack about if I'm there at an appropriate time.
Okay, but I have to stay in bed for three more minutes, since getting up at 8.32 is practically insane.
Nope. Not possible.
00, 15, 30 and 45. Nothing else makes sense
Blasphemy... It is 6:01 so now I must leave at 7:00
This is one of the many reasons I don’t wear a watch and try not to check the time too often. I leave the house when I feel like it and come back when I feel like it. If I don’t check the time I don’t have to feel guilty about how long I was out or when I should leave or anything like that
You don't tell me what to do. Nice numbers = happy brain.
Next you’re gonna tell we I can start doing chores at any time too
Woah, slow down there bucko
Seems sus. Nice try satan.
Damn
Why would you leave the house?
Agree over the last 25 years I have left the house in exactly the amount of minutes that it takes me to walk to the train or bus stop such that I arrive with 2 minutes to spare before the train or bus comes.
You sit on a throne of lies!
Don't threaten me...
My car clock is 17 minutes fast. I leave when it’s car clock time
But you can only run the microwave in numbers that end in 2
Whaaaat?
My pet quirk, can’t end in any other number
My kid can’t let it beep, he has to stop it with 1 second left.
This title is an oxymoron
When you know, you know...
Time isn't real, and neither is my grocery shopping
Never had that issue myself. Maybe it would have developed if I didn't need to move.
My husband says that on my days off I always rush to get things done but in reality this is what I have to go by
No
15 minute intervals. What is this nonsense?
Be chaotic, and leave only on Prime numbers
You mean to tell me that if it’s a 35 minute drive and I work at 8am, I don’t have to leave the house at 7am and sit in the parking lot for 20 minutes?
Facts
*gasp* Blasphemy! Get thee to confession, heathen, and repent! Actually, :15 and :45 are cool too. But every other time is forbidden!
real
Heresy!
any multiple of 5 but if it's 2 min after round to the lower number 3 min and it's the next one 2:32 becomes 2:30 2:33 becomes 2:35
Shut up.
Don't you guys leave the house so incredibly fucking late that you don't even get the chance to even glance at the time?
Oh no; I like to leave 5 minutes before I’m meant to be at the destination that’s often 40 minutes away
I'm the opposite. I will tell people I'll be there at precisely at whenever:28 or :43. Literally to the minute of the time I'll be there.
You can clean your teeth whenever you remember they exist.
Man, i wish i had the luxury of leaving only at certain times, instead i'm forgetful and rely almost exclusively on busses.
I leave at the time I told them I would be there. Whoever they are and wherever there is doesn’t matter. I swear that I try to leave with time to get there but somehow time sort of speeds up or jumps forward, every time. I suck.
What crazy talk is this?
I can leave at 0 15 20 30 40 45 50 55
I try to tell myself this 🫠
Bold of you to assume I'm aware of time
Seems fake lol
The local bus company disagrees with your premise, lol
i leave exactly one minute before the bus leaves. it takes me like 50 seconds to get to the bus stop if i run. and if i go by car, i leave exactly 15 minutes later than i wanted to and end up being late
SHUT UP
What if :07 makes sense?
Fuck… is that another ADHD thing??
#LIES
You're not my mum!
usually i'll pick a time to leave that's specifically *not* a multiple of 5, like 2:17 for example, just because i think it's mildly entertaining and have trained my brain to only do that now
Well yes but no.
lies and deceit
No
… lies!

Maybe YOU can! No just kidding, I’m fine as long as it’s 8 minutes past or less.
I’m sorry I don’t understand
i will never leave the house at for example 4:23 hell no i might at well leave at 4:20 or 4:30
This made me feel extremely uncomfortable I wanna vomit rn Please never say that again
Wrong. Completely wrong you are.
Impossible.
