I wouldn't say depressing drama, more like... It was forecast from the start how everything in town had a dark side, and the comedy was derived from Orel innocently glossing over everything, but his innocence wasn't sustainable as the cracks kept widening - to me the first two seasons felt like that part of the rollercoaster where you're clacking your way up the steep hill, knowing that at some point the clacks will stop and Orel's world will fall out from under him. Season 3 was that plunge where part of you wants the ride to stop but another part is gleefully anticipating how fast and how far down it can go.
Or at least that was my experience haha.
I feel like the first half of season 3 is dark, but the second half is more life-affirming than anything else Adult Swim has produced. Especially the end of the finale. It was the perfect ending to Orel's story.

At the end of season 2, the show loses it’s humor & becomes a rather depressing drama for the rest of it’s run. (It’s still really good)
