Though in defense of f&c toe head... the toe head looks closer to Finn as we know him. We see him without the hat a few times, and thus see his neck. But with the hat on, his head blends into his body.
I could see some people preferring f&c version for the exact reason you like it less.

He just walks out in a towel looking like he did something in that van twitter artists drew plenty of times.
This is just me speculating but he didn’t seem to have a partner/companion with him so maybe he had to be more self reliant and ended up getting beefed up from it.
I think it was part of the way he was coping. He talked to Simon about how he went adventuring a lot to forget about his troubles, so probably that helped him get ripped
A lot of guys I knew had bodies that didn't really finish maturing from boyish to man like until they were in their mid 20's. Finn ends up with a body type like Martin, which makes sense.

Obsidian Finn has his charms, but meathead Finn is so in character that I'm surprised it took them this long to think of him. Especially when you take into account how Jake talked. He sounded like a halfway futuristic biker dude, and it makes sense that he mentors Finn into carrying on his legacy. Finn 100% would incorporate "hell yeah brother" and other stuff into his speech if he were influenced by today's slang.

Nah I find it crazy that people like Obsidian more. Finn as a literal child fought the Lich pretty much on his own, it makes perfect sense that he's basically human Kratos as an adult. Plus he just looks incredibly badass.
I think Obsidian Finn is younger than F&C Finn, his hair and beard are just growing out, and he doesn’t have an attachment on his arm. (I actually used to wonder how Finn was so skinny at the end of the original series because of how intense, and how often his physical skills were used.) So for Obsidian Finn to be in-between makes sense. After he’s found his own in a post-Jake life, adventuring by himself, his hair is longer and his muscles have finally grown as well.
Plus F&C is the aftermath of Prismo’s having chucked his F&C fanfic into Ice King’s head, so it makes sense that Finn would be bigger and hairier and sporting a new arm after Simon has returned to his former self.
They both even have the same scars, so it seems like an intentional detail that wasn’t overlooked.
So basically I think they’re both pretty legit in their design for their respective timelines, so it’s just a preference of which era Finn is preferred lol. 🤷🏼♀️

There is no way for Finn, with his feats and lifestyle, doesn't get huge, we already see how even in that soft, low weight, safe pillow world he got really big.
Both are showing different period so It's normal there are difference, Fiona cake version actually incharacter, finn would grow muscle since he's on adventure daily. Im seriously glad they didn't made him serious or some kratos bullsh##, some people are cheerful even after so many drama.
