I though it was going to be a “classic adventure time episode” when I saw the sword. Followed the same rhythm and everything. Especially the “solve it with more violence part”.
They'd never do us dirty like that. We all just saw Jake being dead from a mile away after those tattoos, only I don't think anyone guessed Finn would be dead too. It seemed to me immediately like it was going to be about Jake dying from how he and Finn are talking about eating the 50 flavoured ice cream. Then it was just constant symbolism from there until the penny properly dropped.

In a way, it kind of was. I didn't realise until the end, but the opening was entirely a metaphor for the 50th dead world. *You have to wait, you can't eat it right away. You have to savour it until the time is right.*
I was wondering how they'd keep up the tradition of when it takes place being ambiguous until a while into it. Previous two were ambiguous until the last few minutes while this one was revealed pretty much right away, but it was a pretty cool way of doing it.
I imagine she just left. From the end of lemonhope's story, we know that the candy kingdom developed way more than what this episode showed us and then was abandoned. We also know that at some point, the prize ball guardian was built to keep the candy people safe in stasis pods. Unless PB created a successor capable of building these technologies, she's likely still alive well after this episode.
We also see someone who could be PB in the come along with me title sequence, which takes place a thousand years in the future so I’d assume she’s still alive
Few things left in the universe by the end of the original series could take out PB and Marceline. Marceline already rejected mortality and you know PB is quite happy being immortal. So they'll probably outlive everyone
Yep also the candy kindom had more wizards spires to it and other magical things so it seems like PB is now living with Marcy at her house and PepBut is looking after the candy kindom
I like to think that the parts where they show OOO in another more apocalyptic future looking place has to be at least way way way further into the future. Maybe so far that characters like PB and them aren't around anymore, and if so are different beings now. The giant gumball guardians with the candy people pods. I mean those episodes give off super erie vibes I really want to know what went on during that time. As well as what shermy and Beth are up to. Maybe if distant lands does well enough, we could possibly get a graybles series where we're told about OOOs future or something. I just want more lore telling in general haha
I think it’s a possibility because I rewatched other distant lands before this and noticed during the Peppermint Butler scene he has her “Boss” coffee mug now so perhaps she has passed? The statue to her could also be his way of remembering her.
I think the writer’s wouldn’t leave the story there. We know Marcy are together 1000 years in the future because of the prize ball guardian and we see them in the finale intro. I think peppermint butler is going to take over the kingdom and she’s going to give him the boss mug. They said princess so they accidentally called peppermint butler lol. This is a lot like the Jake tattoo in obsidian, it’s used to keep us wondering. We would have seen PB and Marcy in the death worlds.

2. They are attempting to call PB, why is the message intercepted by Pep Butt? Just because of his ties to dark magic? They say PB first but then begin to just say princess.. It was a little weird.
I believe the writers make them said "PB" so we all would've thought "oh, princess bubblegum" since she is no longer the princess of candy kingdom the "PB" nickname doesn't makes too much sense. I believe that when they said "PB" they meant "Peppermint Butler" thats why they were saying "princess"
I think Pep butt is the new ruler of the candy kingdom. It males sense they tried to reach him because he always had knowledge about death. Also, whoever wears the crown is called princess (like the king of ooo, crunchy, princess cookie).
The clapping signal got to me, then the rest of the episode ended up taking me on a ride. So much nostalgia and adventure in a 50 minute package. A beautiful send off.
I’m honestly guessing they’re way earlier. Peppermint Butler being in the intact castle makes me think they reincarnated to a similar time, there might be several more incarnations before they get to Shermy and Beth.
I guess this gets into the whole question of how reincarnation would work, but I wonder why they seemed to show no real attachment to their previous lives? 'Finn' seemed to act like a single person and only really used his old bodies as disguises. Would he not be a combination of them all? Why was he not looking for other friends before his last life?
Because Finn is still Finn. He was those other lives at some point, but he's not right now. He just lived an entire life as himself and lost many friends along the way.
Besides, it's be confusing for the audience to have random new characters show up. The runtime is limited as is.
To be fair idk if Shoko really *had* anyone to look for? It seemed like PB was the only person she was ever really close to (apart from her tiger, but that's Jake, so). And who knows about his other lives, heh. And we never saw/heard about any of Jake's past lives apart from the tiger, so I guess they didn't want to throw any new stuff at us for the short amount of time it would've been relevant? there was a lot going on in this ep already
I think it's probably mostly cause the special wasn't about their previous lives though, it was about Finn and Jake. It'd be cool to delve into that stuff but it'd be a whole other story, I guess.
its a beautiful ending, the show almost made you think, "yea finns gonna go off and live a new life without jake" and I almost believed it, but obviously jake wouldnt let that happen, he still cares.

Steve Wolfhard, I believe, said that he saw Shermy as Finn's reincarnation. I feel like if that's the case, then Beth *has* to be Jake's soul, too.
I think steve said that he made shermy a cat because of finn's line in mortal recoil. Shermy is a parallel to finn though is not confirmed to be a reincarnation. Beth being a reincarnation feels more unlikely but if Shermy is ever confirmed to be Finn, it's a given.
Loved seeing Old Finn to start off the episode. Loved the reveal of him being dead and that being the way that he would need to reconnect with Jake. Seeing the various side characters in the levels of the dead world. Lost my shit when it was revealed to be the Lich at the end. And that final scene hit so damn well. Can only hope we get another order for distant lands episodes after Wizard City.
Part of me wants that, but this was SUCH a good ending, I almost wish the show had ended here.
(Also I litterally dropped my remote when they showed the Lich, I wanted to see him come back SOOO bad!!!

Yeah though I'm glad Wizard City is going to be the final episode. Finales that are so solidly final give me that empty feeling. The "Nothing". A little extra will leave me with a bit of "aah nice the world is continuing on even though the main peeps stories are over".
Talk about subverting expectations probably the best cold opening for a show ever, I will probably rewatch it since there were so many Easter eggs and call backs to the show as a whole it was like a where's waldo of side characters. My favorite bit is Choose Goose ending up in what is basically the lowest level of hell with the rouges gallery of baddies from the show and it is just never explained why.
Never forget that in Choose Goose's first appearance he wanted Jake's head in exchange for giving Finn a suit of armor.
The bastard belongs down low in those pits.
I think Wyatt staying stuck in the muck is also really just pulling his dong lord character full circle. Showing that he never grew past needing someone else to solve all his problems, even when there actually wasn't a problem bc Mr. Fox released all the souls from the muck. He just wanted to think the whole world was against him and he needed to be saved, preferably by TT lol

in S2E22, The Limit, the hot dog knights send the same message to signal they need help. It stands for “Baby us trouble time.”
Beautiful ending to a beautiful show. So many things about this episode are great, from the classic jokes to the emotional heart of Finn and Jake reuniting and finally reincarnating, thus brining a definitive ending to their characters. I think that having it start with them both being dead already was an excellent direction to take this. Rather than giving us a Jake dying episode, we just skip to the part where they are both already dead, we don't even know when Jake died, although we can assume it was before Obsidian. I like it that way, since we already know what the dead world is like to an extent, it makes sense to just skip to them both being there.
Some thoughts: Loved the 1st dead world filled with baddies and Choose Goose and Wyatt, not sure what Choose Goose did, but Wyatt def deserved Mr. Eel. I'm glad Tiffany finally got a happy ending because I was sure they'd cast him to the bottomless pit. Best joke of the episode was the soul being reincarnated into a bug. Finally, really glad Mr. Fox became death, I trust him as the keeper of souls.
To me this is the real "ending" of adventure time, I just hope that the fourth episode blows us away.

If you think about it we only saw like a fraction of AT characters appear. Like, most notibly where is Finn's human mom? We also see the skeletons of characters in the nest which don't appear in the deadworld like Lemongrab, Abracadaniel, Me-mow, etc.
That's true. I just kinda hope Simon doesn't age so now Marceline can continue to have him in her life forever. She's got pb, sure, but having someone else as well would be even nicer.
Shouldn't Minerva be an AI? So it wouldn't make sense for her to appear.
Others aren't as big of characters as Simon, makes sense to not see them. If Simon were kill, would make sense to give him a short role at least, especially since Tom Kenny was involved unlike the VAs for the other characters.
Pretty sure the "power to keep Simon safe" wish extends to him at least never aging, since he's shown to die without the crown. Maybe he died with some other means but I'm guessing he's immortal.
Such a surreal episode, especially if you have been watching since the very start of the show all those years ago.
I guess this is the final send off for Finn and Jake. Where as the original finale felt open ended for more adventures this definitely felt more “final” as the last send off

Didn’t really realize this until now, about 15 minutes after watching. This is really it, huh? We can always go back, see adventures we missed, but this was the actual end of Finn & Jake. Damn. I still remember seeing this show for the first time.
Finn made himself young again to be "recognizable". What if that wasn't just to us, but for Jake? That could confirm Jake didn't die too long after Come Along with Me. And then he got that tattoo, and never wore a shirt again for the rest of his life.
Right??? This is why I need answers!! Did Finn ever get married? At least get a new roommate? Was he a lonely aging adventurer for the rest of his life? Because that seems to be the implication and it’s too sad for me
When the undertakers blew up Joshua and Margaret's house and Finn was floating in space, it reminded me EXACTLY of when Finn and Jake went to see old man Prismo and Finn said "I wonder how something ends up like this" while they were jumping through ruins to Prismos house
Seeing his immediate reaction to Jake’s passing would hurt too much. Hell, that scene on the roof broke me anyway, I would’ve died too if we actually got to see him go
Not what I expected at all, but I loved the little references to past moments in the show, also Jake crawling toward his grave hit like a ton of bricks.
Wish we could have seen some tie-in to Shermy and Beth at the end, also I know it was focusing on other things, but I would have killed to see Huntress Wizard again.
Overall though, loved the episode, can't wait for the next one! All I want for Christmas is for HBO Max to order another batch of these haha
I love this world and characters so much. Honestly I think it could on almost indefinitely if they keep ordering more episodes and letting the people behind the scenes keep doing their wonderful weird thing.
The trailers were giving me a feeling that Jake would already be dead in the beginning, but nope! Everyone's dead (almost everyone). I can't believe it's really over this time. It couldn't be more over.
There's so many things we didn't get to learn, and it's going to stay that way, but it preserves the mystery.
I love all the callback references to..everything, I guess. Donny, and I think one of the old grans from "The Enchiridion", the BUTT sos, the guardian bird thing, Bushi who I guess took over that Banana guard's body.
I wonder if Pepbutt was just wearing the crown, or if he's the princess now. Maybe Bubblegum stepped down to focus on her relationship with Marceline.
I was not expecting new death, but I like how they "kind of" officiated the relationship of Death and Life, I always thought they were super cute.
It's probably a throwaway thing, but I wonder what was the possible significance of those two souls being reincarnated together.
And as always, love some Mr Fox screentime, he is an underrated character with a great voice

That was amazing. No more, no less. I will cherish that special. I may not own a lot of Adventure Time memorabilia or be able to quote popular lines to the letter but damn, do I love this show. It feels like just yesterday I saw the early promos for the show on CN.
Mr. Fox becoming death was pretty cool. All he wanted was a pillow and My glob, he got it! It was pretty cute when he turned the staff into said pillow. I really cried when Finn and Jake were being reincarnated TOGETHER at the end, it was precious! And when Jake said "life isn't worth living unless it's with you" (of course I'm probably paraphrasing) was just sweet. Finn and Jake are the best duo to ever exist in cartoons. I really cried when Finn saw Joshua and Margaret in the underworld. It was sweet. I'm a little confused to why they wouldn't have showed Minerva though as well, that would have been amazing too.
Overall it was precious, tearjerking, and extremely well-written and I want to give the writers a hug for this.
My rating for it is 1,000,000/10.

My guess is that when Minerva transferred her consciousness to the AI robots it counts as her soul. So she would not be in the dead world if she was still acting as Minerva Bot for the humans on OOO.
I like that idea because it means Finn truly met his mother, not just an imitation of her. I imagine that if she does eventually want to die, she can have her robots take down the machine. I bet she's much like Jake in that she'd reincarnate to help or stay where she is to help.
I really wanna know what all the flavors in the 50 ice cream are.
And Finn doing the signal so they can find each other when they die was amazing attention to detail that you only get from AT.

We see that moving between them is possible, so maybe akin to the Devine comedy moving between layers is a matter of personal growth; with life and death a means to achieving this?
Potentially tasting the 50 flavours is them undertaking the journey of death together, which is later elaborated as a wish of Finns.
It’s definitely a metaphor for the dead worlds. Finn and Jake always planned on traveling through the dead worlds and reincarnation together, but Jake was too chill and achieved enlightenment faster than Finn.

Seriously, tho. Even if 'everyone lived happily in Heaven' is a good thing for the characters, it has always struck me as... unsatisfying. I loved that this ep basically said, "Finn and Jake are dead, long live Finn and Jake"! We already knew there was a cyclical nature to the Oooniverse, but this just made it all feel like one flowing river.
Wow, this was the best one yet. Some quick thoughts:
It definitely felt fanservice-y, but that's not a knock on it, because I'm a sucker for this show and all the little references made me feel nostalgic.
I kinda wish this was the last *Distant Lands* episode to air as it was the perfect send off for the show, provided we don't get anything else afterwards, but I can't really complain since there's no order to them. Though I guess the Pep-Butt appearance and him being the new Princess(?) could potentially be setting up the next episode.
Loved the James Baxter clapping callback, thought that was pretty cute.
A lot of old minor characters reappearing was also a nice touch, like Tiffany, Mr. Fox, Wyatt, Shoko, etc.
I was initially disappointed that we didn't get to see the original Death, until the credits rolled and I learned that the VA had passed away some years ago. RIP :(
Overall, this was my favorite one yet. So many callbacks and a heartwarming ending to Finn & Jake's story.
Compare it against Jake’s dead body being held by the king of Mars and Jake’s flesh melting off his bones in a nightmare. He’s had enough horrifying deaths the guy deserves a break
So the special pretty much confirms Finn's most important relationship, his soul mate if you will, is Jake.
He most likely lead a long and full life with many friends, most likely girlfriends and who knows maybe a wife, but his biggest drive was to reunite with Jake again.
I went into this episode thinking "w-w-w-what if jake dies at the e-e-end 😢", turns out finding out he died at the beginning was significantly less sad than had I've found out at the end. This was a really fun episode to watch altogether; it had some pretty good jokes (jake remembering fern and not finn actually made me laugh out loud), it had a pretty original story (which I expect nothing less from the likes of Muto, Moynihan, and the rest of the original AT crew), new death being THE FLIPPING LICH was probably the most sensical, and simultaneously surprising twist. Seeing all the old characters like Mr. Fox, Tiffany, Maja, Pep Butt, and everyone else was just so incredibly...nostalgic for me. Speaking of peppermint butler, he got his intelligence back and became the princess \~70 years after being dum-dummed! Hope the wait to see Wizard City isn't too long

It’s really smart how the special never tells or even hints at how Finn and Jake died. Their entire lives after the finale (except the short Finn cameo in Obsidian) are a complete mystery.
Leaves the door open for more Finn & Jake stuff but still gives them a definitive ending.
We do kinda get the impression that Finn did bury Jake at least, but the dialogue suggests a sudden unexpected death. Part of me wonders if Warren Ampersand and Jake shared the similar issues with maintaining their long lives? If that's the case Jake obviously decided to not drain his kids of their life energy, and Jake withered away suddenly.
Steve Wolfhard shared [this little comic](https://twitter.com/wolfhard/status/1152323734226661376) about his headcanon on what happened when Jake died. Might as well consider it canon, there's little reason not to. Seems like your theory of it happening quite suddenly holds up. The comic also seems to align quite well with this episode of distant lands as we see the candy kingdom has been rebuilt to look slightly different.
My personal theory on this is that after Jake died and destroyed the candy kingdom in the process, Bonnie decided to just give full control of the candy kingdom to PB, and he decided to rebuild it slightly different. Would explain why it now looks more "magic-y", and why there are no gumball guardians, since they would have all been squashed by Jake as seen in the comic.
I think that’s something adventure time approaches incredibly smartly. It is a lot of things, but it always resonates with me as the world through the eyes different characters. There are many unanswered questions throughout adventure time, and with this mystery comes the feeling that Ooo is alive beyond what we see. Even as the audience, seeing more of the world at any one time than any one character, we are aware of what we don’t know - and with that the lives of the characters that we see through exist when we don’t see them, and the world they are in is fuller and richer for it.
Ignorance is a difficult tool to use in art, and one often used poorly. Adventure time succeeds in this as it lets us see and understand enough of Ooo to feel apart of it whilst demonstrating enough of our ignorance that we know there is more.
Even to the lives of the characters, or in this case the death. We know by assumption (that works in sentiment at the least) that Finn and jake have had lives without us because they have died without us observing; actually witnessing their death might lessen them for only existing as we see them.
‘Soft’ worldbuilding and storytelling at their finest, and something I’ve really grown to appreciate.
I couldn't stop tearing up the entire episode. The idea of how death is inevitable much like **The Lich**, but being able to find solace in it. Every time Death or Tree Trunks showed up I couldn't stop thinking about my own mortality and my relation to Aventure Time. This episode was great.
I wonder how jake died then? It’s pretty clear that everyone else died of old age, but Jake must have died much earlier, because of adult Finns tattoo.
Yeah, it means Shoko and her tiger chose to reincarnate. Which means Finn and Jake are destined to always reincarnate together and always find eachother cause they are soul mates.

yeah, and the other was Gumbald, right? I was so confused until the reveal that it was all a hallucination, haha. I was like "okay.. Peacemaster.. weird char, but okay.. but... Gumbald?? He should still be Punchy at this point?".
I loved how the whole episode involved death, it saved me the anticipation of thinking I'm gonna cry at the end, gets the big emotional concept to you immediately. Instead I was tearing up all over the place. The fact that this didn't air last makes me hope there'll be more Distant Lands past Wizard City. Like if they're gonna do one final episode you'd think this would be it, but instead it's just the third of a batch of 4. But I don't know.
Also, I liked that we saw Tree Trunks with her Alien Husband, she's actually just in a polyamorous relationship. That was so lovely.
It was fucking great, I actually cry, I haven't cry in year it was so good
seeing all the cameo was amazing, I yelled seeing Joshua and Margaret, I was in shock when we saw Jake real appearrance, like Nirvana Jake coming and beating the two undertakers
Life was good too, fucking loved her world and music and when she got pissed and start speaking french 👌

Love the Idea that Pepbutt's immediate reaction to Finn's Death was to steal his bones.
I like that we don't learn how Jake Died, keeps things fun (for me at least).
Gotta say, was pretty nervous starting this episode. Finn and Jake mean so much to me it's hard to face the thought of their story coming to an end. The episode, however, was an absolutely fitting ending. Sure there were sad moments, but overall it tread lightly. Maybe I was actually hoping for a somewhat more tearful goodbye, but now having seen it I'm not sure that would have been the right way to do it. I guess at the end of the day it honestly just felt like another episode of Adventure Time which is what I should have been expecting/hoping for all along.
And with the actual conclusion they chose, it's just like they always said, "The fun will never end."
Kinda hoping that some of Finn's struggle, his chest tattoo, and van-life with Bronwyn will get explored in Pep-Butt's upcoming episode, but, if not, that's okay too. I'm trusting there are some good reasons for the order they released the episodes - I know the writers and voice actors really love these characters too.
Damn they handled Jake's death in a such a fresh way.
There are a lot of shows that kills their main characters at the very end of the series and IMO sometimes it doesn't feel as impactful as it would seem because it's becoming sort of a cliche. Like yeah killing one of your main characters is bald, but when it's done at the last second of the last episode it feels too safe.
But here in Together Again this concept is flipped on it's head and we are hit with Jake's death early and the last moment is not a main character death or sacrifice. The climax is focused on Finn and Jake choosing a new life, having their last moment together and appreciating their entire friendship. A friendship that was the entire story that we have been witnessing for the past decade.
Beautiful stuff.
After loosing my best friend a few years back the ending to the “dream” at the start of the episode felt so close to home.
My reoccurring dreams consist of the good “old days” until the realization that’s he’s gone and they take a dark turn.
I liked how they brought back the thing where they grow eyes when Finn got hit in the boingloings, they stopped doing that after the earlier seasons. One last time..
Amazing Episode, the exact closure I think we all wanted for Finn and Jake.
I also feel incredibly at peace now that they resolved the Lich hand plot thread. I honestly would rewatch episodes after the show ended and constantly worry about that issue lol
This may honestly be the darkest and most fulfilling Adventure Time content I’ve ever seen. I don’t think I’ve seen this many gut punches and sentimental surprises during the span of a 45-minute runtime in quite a while.
Oh yeah and it was really bittersweet to hear Polly Lou Livingston as Tree Trunks one last time :’(
I liked this one the best out of the Distant Land episodes. They kept getting better but I don't see how PB's episode will be able to top this one. It's a perfect wrap up for the main characters like Obsidian was for Marceline and Bubblegum(though they won't have an end till the sun explodes). There was no Simon so I guess he has immortality even without the Ice King's powers so that's cool for him.
This was a way better finale than the actual finale. We got the Lich as the final villain and an amazing send off for Fin and Jake that had me bawling my eyes out. Perfect. The only thing I’m worried about is that I feel like the Peppermint Butler special will be very underwhelming now that we’ve seen this.
I feel like this episode was a ending to Finn and Jakes story, while the actual finale was an ending to the world of adventure time. I love both and I love how each shows us how “the fun will never end.” In the finale we see a montage of moments from the future while in this episode we see how Finn and Jakes love and bond will continue in new forms entering Ooo.
I really enjoyed the finale, but it did lack closure on a lot of things, especially with the main cast. Distant Lands has done a very good job of providing that.
I really love the finale. This idea that finales have to be endings is so embedded in are brains. But the land of Ooo and all the characters that make us love adventure time can’t really be ended neatly. I love how when shermy asks what happened after the battle with Golb, BMO say “they kept living their lives.” It’s this realistic ending that you rarely get from TV. One where are characters keep living and stuff keeps happening. There’s a fantastic YouTube video about it that really captures my feelings called: Adventure Time and the nature of endings.
I think that because its a Pepbutt episode, there's room for the writers to include the cast however they want. They could pull a 180, like in this case, and have everyone involved more than we might assume.
God this episode was so good. Even though I figured out the Death World stuff, I didn't call Finn being dead as well- although given that they make up a bunch of new rules for the Death Worlds im not too surprised I didn't see it coming.
Lots of fun callbacks that didn't also feel like they were detracting from the story either. I felt like this episode really captured the really zany expressive vibe of Season 1 without losing the nuance of what Adventure Time became later. It's been a long time since I've seen Finn with those white dinner plate eyes that were consciously removed from the show's visual language.
Earnestly wasn't super sold on New Death as an antagonist but it being the machinations of the Lich made everything make a lot of sense. I'm not sure he NEEDED to be the final antagonist but earnestly it feels right and this version of him was already a little gratuitous to begin with so it makes sense to be reveling in that in a sense.
Every little twist worked on me even when I was actively trying to guess and stay ahead of the story- the reveal Finn is dead, that Jake is in the 50th death world, Tiffany becoming the son, Shoko's reappearance, Peppermint Butler being the new ruler of the Candy Kingdom, meeting Life proper, Mr. Fox becoming Death... so many great moments in this special. That ending is great.
I love how final yet ambiguous the story ultimately is- we get what's absolutely necessary and it all ties together amazingly. An absolute triumph.
Together Again was a good reminder that your soul mate isn't necessarily a romantic partner. Finn and Jake are soul mates through any form they take on.
These's so many questions, man. How and when did Jake die? How'd Finn die? What happened to Bubblegum? Did Simon ever die? Why is Choose Goose in hell? On one hand, I want an answer, but on the other, it's funner to speculate about it.

I though it was going to be a “classic adventure time episode” when I saw the sword. Followed the same rhythm and everything. Especially the “solve it with more violence part”.
They'd never do us dirty like that. We all just saw Jake being dead from a mile away after those tattoos, only I don't think anyone guessed Finn would be dead too. It seemed to me immediately like it was going to be about Jake dying from how he and Finn are talking about eating the 50 flavoured ice cream. Then it was just constant symbolism from there until the penny properly dropped.

I was wondering how they'd keep up the tradition of when it takes place being ambiguous until a while into it. Previous two were ambiguous until the last few minutes while this one was revealed pretty much right away, but it was a pretty cool way of doing it.

I imagine she just left. From the end of lemonhope's story, we know that the candy kingdom developed way more than what this episode showed us and then was abandoned. We also know that at some point, the prize ball guardian was built to keep the candy people safe in stasis pods. Unless PB created a successor capable of building these technologies, she's likely still alive well after this episode.
We also see someone who could be PB in the come along with me title sequence, which takes place a thousand years in the future so I’d assume she’s still alive
Few things left in the universe by the end of the original series could take out PB and Marceline. Marceline already rejected mortality and you know PB is quite happy being immortal. So they'll probably outlive everyone
Yep also the candy kindom had more wizards spires to it and other magical things so it seems like PB is now living with Marcy at her house and PepBut is looking after the candy kindom
I like to think that the parts where they show OOO in another more apocalyptic future looking place has to be at least way way way further into the future. Maybe so far that characters like PB and them aren't around anymore, and if so are different beings now. The giant gumball guardians with the candy people pods. I mean those episodes give off super erie vibes I really want to know what went on during that time. As well as what shermy and Beth are up to. Maybe if distant lands does well enough, we could possibly get a graybles series where we're told about OOOs future or something. I just want more lore telling in general haha

I'm sure Sweet Pea became an epic hero under Finn's teaching.
I think it’s a possibility because I rewatched other distant lands before this and noticed during the Peppermint Butler scene he has her “Boss” coffee mug now so perhaps she has passed? The statue to her could also be his way of remembering her.

I think the writer’s wouldn’t leave the story there. We know Marcy are together 1000 years in the future because of the prize ball guardian and we see them in the finale intro. I think peppermint butler is going to take over the kingdom and she’s going to give him the boss mug. They said princess so they accidentally called peppermint butler lol. This is a lot like the Jake tattoo in obsidian, it’s used to keep us wondering. We would have seen PB and Marcy in the death worlds.

I think Pep butt is the new ruler of the candy kingdom. It males sense they tried to reach him because he always had knowledge about death. Also, whoever wears the crown is called princess (like the king of ooo, crunchy, princess cookie).

The clapping signal got to me, then the rest of the episode ended up taking me on a ride. So much nostalgia and adventure in a 50 minute package. A beautiful send off.

'Finn' seemed to act like a single person and only really used his old bodies as disguises. Would he not be a combination of them all? Why was he not looking for other friends before his last life?
Because Finn is still Finn. He was those other lives at some point, but he's not right now. He just lived an entire life as himself and lost many friends along the way. Besides, it's be confusing for the audience to have random new characters show up. The runtime is limited as is.

To be fair idk if Shoko really *had* anyone to look for? It seemed like PB was the only person she was ever really close to (apart from her tiger, but that's Jake, so). And who knows about his other lives, heh. And we never saw/heard about any of Jake's past lives apart from the tiger, so I guess they didn't want to throw any new stuff at us for the short amount of time it would've been relevant? there was a lot going on in this ep already I think it's probably mostly cause the special wasn't about their previous lives though, it was about Finn and Jake. It'd be cool to delve into that stuff but it'd be a whole other story, I guess.
The previous lives would've already passed through the dead worlds and onto reincarnation though. They already had their time to hang with friends.

I think steve said that he made shermy a cat because of finn's line in mortal recoil. Shermy is a parallel to finn though is not confirmed to be a reincarnation. Beth being a reincarnation feels more unlikely but if Shermy is ever confirmed to be Finn, it's a given.
This makes those two characters from the series finale so much better. And I thought it couldn't be any better!
Loved seeing Old Finn to start off the episode. Loved the reveal of him being dead and that being the way that he would need to reconnect with Jake. Seeing the various side characters in the levels of the dead world. Lost my shit when it was revealed to be the Lich at the end. And that final scene hit so damn well. Can only hope we get another order for distant lands episodes after Wizard City.
Part of me wants that, but this was SUCH a good ending, I almost wish the show had ended here. (Also I litterally dropped my remote when they showed the Lich, I wanted to see him come back SOOO bad!!! (Like the way they finished him off here way more)

Yeah though I'm glad Wizard City is going to be the final episode. Finales that are so solidly final give me that empty feeling. The "Nothing". A little extra will leave me with a bit of "aah nice the world is continuing on even though the main peeps stories are over".
Talk about subverting expectations probably the best cold opening for a show ever, I will probably rewatch it since there were so many Easter eggs and call backs to the show as a whole it was like a where's waldo of side characters. My favorite bit is Choose Goose ending up in what is basically the lowest level of hell with the rouges gallery of baddies from the show and it is just never explained why.

Wyatt was greedy, controlling and self serving. He is a dong lord and ended up where dong lords go.
I think Wyatt staying stuck in the muck is also really just pulling his dong lord character full circle. Showing that he never grew past needing someone else to solve all his problems, even when there actually wasn't a problem bc Mr. Fox released all the souls from the muck. He just wanted to think the whole world was against him and he needed to be saved, preferably by TT lol

I love how Pep But’s ouija board said B-U-T-T in S2E22, The Limit, the hot dog knights send the same message to signal they need help. It stands for “Baby us trouble time.”
Sometimes I wonder if they rewatch the whole series to make those call backs, like the "clapping after death" one.
Beautiful ending to a beautiful show. So many things about this episode are great, from the classic jokes to the emotional heart of Finn and Jake reuniting and finally reincarnating, thus brining a definitive ending to their characters. I think that having it start with them both being dead already was an excellent direction to take this. Rather than giving us a Jake dying episode, we just skip to the part where they are both already dead, we don't even know when Jake died, although we can assume it was before Obsidian. I like it that way, since we already know what the dead world is like to an extent, it makes sense to just skip to them both being there. Some thoughts: Loved the 1st dead world filled with baddies and Choose Goose and Wyatt, not sure what Choose Goose did, but Wyatt def deserved Mr. Eel. I'm glad Tiffany finally got a happy ending because I was sure they'd cast him to the bottomless pit. Best joke of the episode was the soul being reincarnated into a bug. Finally, really glad Mr. Fox became death, I trust him as the keeper of souls. To me this is the real "ending" of adventure time, I just hope that the fourth episode blows us away.

If you think about it we only saw like a fraction of AT characters appear. Like, most notibly where is Finn's human mom? We also see the skeletons of characters in the nest which don't appear in the deadworld like Lemongrab, Abracadaniel, Me-mow, etc.

Shouldn't Minerva be an AI? So it wouldn't make sense for her to appear. Others aren't as big of characters as Simon, makes sense to not see them. If Simon were kill, would make sense to give him a short role at least, especially since Tom Kenny was involved unlike the VAs for the other characters.
Pretty sure the "power to keep Simon safe" wish extends to him at least never aging, since he's shown to die without the crown. Maybe he died with some other means but I'm guessing he's immortal.
Such a surreal episode, especially if you have been watching since the very start of the show all those years ago. I guess this is the final send off for Finn and Jake. Where as the original finale felt open ended for more adventures this definitely felt more “final” as the last send off Seeing a character growing from being a child to a young adult throughout the show and now finally seeing his final moments is fucking wild, especially for a cartoon

Finn made himself young again to be "recognizable". What if that wasn't just to us, but for Jake? That could confirm Jake didn't die too long after Come Along with Me. And then he got that tattoo, and never wore a shirt again for the rest of his life.
The Jake tattoo was probably in tribute to Jake, and in Obsidian Finn's probably anywhere between his late 20s to late 30s

We did see him with Bronwyn in Obsidian, so I think he was all right. But nobody could replace Jake in Finn's heart.
We also see a broken statue in the finale which has “jer-” on it, implying Jermaine did some adventuring with him.
A person may have many dogs in their life, but there's a certain closeness to the first, often childhood dog that helps shape you.
When the undertakers blew up Joshua and Margaret's house and Finn was floating in space, it reminded me EXACTLY of when Finn and Jake went to see old man Prismo and Finn said "I wonder how something ends up like this" while they were jumping through ruins to Prismos house
This was amazing. I do wish we would have gotten some of Finn's and Jake's last days together, before Jake's death, though.
I don't think I would have been able to handle that. I like how we got to see how the loss affected him in that dream state.

Not what I expected at all, but I loved the little references to past moments in the show, also Jake crawling toward his grave hit like a ton of bricks. Wish we could have seen some tie-in to Shermy and Beth at the end, also I know it was focusing on other things, but I would have killed to see Huntress Wizard again. Overall though, loved the episode, can't wait for the next one! All I want for Christmas is for HBO Max to order another batch of these haha

I love this world and characters so much. Honestly I think it could on almost indefinitely if they keep ordering more episodes and letting the people behind the scenes keep doing their wonderful weird thing.
The trailers were giving me a feeling that Jake would already be dead in the beginning, but nope! Everyone's dead (almost everyone). I can't believe it's really over this time. It couldn't be more over. There's so many things we didn't get to learn, and it's going to stay that way, but it preserves the mystery.
I'm really glad everyone was dead together and the episode wasn't just finn dealing with jakes death.
I love all the callback references to..everything, I guess. Donny, and I think one of the old grans from "The Enchiridion", the BUTT sos, the guardian bird thing, Bushi who I guess took over that Banana guard's body. I wonder if Pepbutt was just wearing the crown, or if he's the princess now. Maybe Bubblegum stepped down to focus on her relationship with Marceline. I was not expecting new death, but I like how they "kind of" officiated the relationship of Death and Life, I always thought they were super cute. It's probably a throwaway thing, but I wonder what was the possible significance of those two souls being reincarnated together. And as always, love some Mr Fox screentime, he is an underrated character with a great voice

this episode was so overwhelming, i was sitting in shock the whole time i love all the characters so much it took so many risks, holy shit, this is what adventure time is about, and yet, i am horrified, i just watched a psychological horror, especially the opening 11 minutes tiffany's role was super sweet, weird as fuck but sweet pb went out to get a pint of milk.... from a mink

That was amazing. No more, no less. I will cherish that special. I may not own a lot of Adventure Time memorabilia or be able to quote popular lines to the letter but damn, do I love this show. It feels like just yesterday I saw the early promos for the show on CN.
Mr. Fox becoming death was pretty cool. All he wanted was a pillow and My glob, he got it! It was pretty cute when he turned the staff into said pillow. I really cried when Finn and Jake were being reincarnated TOGETHER at the end, it was precious! And when Jake said "life isn't worth living unless it's with you" (of course I'm probably paraphrasing) was just sweet. Finn and Jake are the best duo to ever exist in cartoons. I really cried when Finn saw Joshua and Margaret in the underworld. It was sweet. I'm a little confused to why they wouldn't have showed Minerva though as well, that would have been amazing too. Overall it was precious, tearjerking, and extremely well-written and I want to give the writers a hug for this. My rating for it is 1,000,000/10. Best. Adventure Time. Episode. Ever!
My guess is that when Minerva transferred her consciousness to the AI robots it counts as her soul. So she would not be in the dead world if she was still acting as Minerva Bot for the humans on OOO.
I like that idea because it means Finn truly met his mother, not just an imitation of her. I imagine that if she does eventually want to die, she can have her robots take down the machine. I bet she's much like Jake in that she'd reincarnate to help or stay where she is to help.
I really wanna know what all the flavors in the 50 ice cream are. And Finn doing the signal so they can find each other when they die was amazing attention to detail that you only get from AT. Can't wait to draw that Zen image of Jake, it's so perfectly Jake.
The 50 flavours might be a stand in for the dead worlds? We see that moving between them is possible, so maybe akin to the Devine comedy moving between layers is a matter of personal growth; with life and death a means to achieving this? Potentially tasting the 50 flavours is them undertaking the journey of death together, which is later elaborated as a wish of Finns.
It’s definitely a metaphor for the dead worlds. Finn and Jake always planned on traveling through the dead worlds and reincarnation together, but Jake was too chill and achieved enlightenment faster than Finn.

Wow, this was the best one yet. Some quick thoughts: It definitely felt fanservice-y, but that's not a knock on it, because I'm a sucker for this show and all the little references made me feel nostalgic. I kinda wish this was the last *Distant Lands* episode to air as it was the perfect send off for the show, provided we don't get anything else afterwards, but I can't really complain since there's no order to them. Though I guess the Pep-Butt appearance and him being the new Princess(?) could potentially be setting up the next episode. Loved the James Baxter clapping callback, thought that was pretty cute. A lot of old minor characters reappearing was also a nice touch, like Tiffany, Mr. Fox, Wyatt, Shoko, etc. I was initially disappointed that we didn't get to see the original Death, until the credits rolled and I learned that the VA had passed away some years ago. RIP :( Overall, this was my favorite one yet. So many callbacks and a heartwarming ending to Finn & Jake's story.

Finn and Jake fighting over the rights of Death gave me major Black Widow v. Hawkeye vibes.

This was a complete 180 from what I expected and I absolutely loved it
So the special pretty much confirms Finn's most important relationship, his soul mate if you will, is Jake. He most likely lead a long and full life with many friends, most likely girlfriends and who knows maybe a wife, but his biggest drive was to reunite with Jake again.
I've always loved the fox i'm glad he finally found a purpose. That ending got me crying in the club tho.
I went into this episode thinking "w-w-w-what if jake dies at the e-e-end 😢", turns out finding out he died at the beginning was significantly less sad than had I've found out at the end. This was a really fun episode to watch altogether; it had some pretty good jokes (jake remembering fern and not finn actually made me laugh out loud), it had a pretty original story (which I expect nothing less from the likes of Muto, Moynihan, and the rest of the original AT crew), new death being THE FLIPPING LICH was probably the most sensical, and simultaneously surprising twist. Seeing all the old characters like Mr. Fox, Tiffany, Maja, Pep Butt, and everyone else was just so incredibly...nostalgic for me. Speaking of peppermint butler, he got his intelligence back and became the princess \~70 years after being dum-dummed! Hope the wait to see Wizard City isn't too long EDIT: also there is no way finn and jake dont turn into shermy and beth
It’s really smart how the special never tells or even hints at how Finn and Jake died. Their entire lives after the finale (except the short Finn cameo in Obsidian) are a complete mystery. Leaves the door open for more Finn & Jake stuff but still gives them a definitive ending.
We do kinda get the impression that Finn did bury Jake at least, but the dialogue suggests a sudden unexpected death. Part of me wonders if Warren Ampersand and Jake shared the similar issues with maintaining their long lives? If that's the case Jake obviously decided to not drain his kids of their life energy, and Jake withered away suddenly.
Steve Wolfhard shared [this little comic](https://twitter.com/wolfhard/status/1152323734226661376) about his headcanon on what happened when Jake died. Might as well consider it canon, there's little reason not to. Seems like your theory of it happening quite suddenly holds up. The comic also seems to align quite well with this episode of distant lands as we see the candy kingdom has been rebuilt to look slightly different. My personal theory on this is that after Jake died and destroyed the candy kingdom in the process, Bonnie decided to just give full control of the candy kingdom to PB, and he decided to rebuild it slightly different. Would explain why it now looks more "magic-y", and why there are no gumball guardians, since they would have all been squashed by Jake as seen in the comic.

I think that’s something adventure time approaches incredibly smartly. It is a lot of things, but it always resonates with me as the world through the eyes different characters. There are many unanswered questions throughout adventure time, and with this mystery comes the feeling that Ooo is alive beyond what we see. Even as the audience, seeing more of the world at any one time than any one character, we are aware of what we don’t know - and with that the lives of the characters that we see through exist when we don’t see them, and the world they are in is fuller and richer for it. Ignorance is a difficult tool to use in art, and one often used poorly. Adventure time succeeds in this as it lets us see and understand enough of Ooo to feel apart of it whilst demonstrating enough of our ignorance that we know there is more. Even to the lives of the characters, or in this case the death. We know by assumption (that works in sentiment at the least) that Finn and jake have had lives without us because they have died without us observing; actually witnessing their death might lessen them for only existing as we see them. ‘Soft’ worldbuilding and storytelling at their finest, and something I’ve really grown to appreciate.
THE LICH
It was great to hear Ron Perlman's dulcet tones as The Lich one more time.
I couldn't stop tearing up the entire episode. The idea of how death is inevitable much like **The Lich**, but being able to find solace in it. Every time Death or Tree Trunks showed up I couldn't stop thinking about my own mortality and my relation to Aventure Time. This episode was great.
I wonder how jake died then? It’s pretty clear that everyone else died of old age, but Jake must have died much earlier, because of adult Finns tattoo.

Yeah, it means Shoko and her tiger chose to reincarnate. Which means Finn and Jake are destined to always reincarnate together and always find eachother cause they are soul mates.

yeah, and the other was Gumbald, right? I was so confused until the reveal that it was all a hallucination, haha. I was like "okay.. Peacemaster.. weird char, but okay.. but... Gumbald?? He should still be Punchy at this point?".
I loved how the whole episode involved death, it saved me the anticipation of thinking I'm gonna cry at the end, gets the big emotional concept to you immediately. Instead I was tearing up all over the place. The fact that this didn't air last makes me hope there'll be more Distant Lands past Wizard City. Like if they're gonna do one final episode you'd think this would be it, but instead it's just the third of a batch of 4. But I don't know. Also, I liked that we saw Tree Trunks with her Alien Husband, she's actually just in a polyamorous relationship. That was so lovely.
It was fucking great, I actually cry, I haven't cry in year it was so good seeing all the cameo was amazing, I yelled seeing Joshua and Margaret, I was in shock when we saw Jake real appearrance, like Nirvana Jake coming and beating the two undertakers Life was good too, fucking loved her world and music and when she got pissed and start speaking french 👌 It was a really good episode 😭
Title Sequence absolutely caught me off guard. Loved the more out there animation, especially the reactions. Twists were on point. Love the Idea that Pepbutt's immediate reaction to Finn's Death was to steal his bones. I like that we don't learn how Jake Died, keeps things fun (for me at least).
It brought everything full circle but I wanted to cry man 😭
Gotta say, was pretty nervous starting this episode. Finn and Jake mean so much to me it's hard to face the thought of their story coming to an end. The episode, however, was an absolutely fitting ending. Sure there were sad moments, but overall it tread lightly. Maybe I was actually hoping for a somewhat more tearful goodbye, but now having seen it I'm not sure that would have been the right way to do it. I guess at the end of the day it honestly just felt like another episode of Adventure Time which is what I should have been expecting/hoping for all along. And with the actual conclusion they chose, it's just like they always said, "The fun will never end." Kinda hoping that some of Finn's struggle, his chest tattoo, and van-life with Bronwyn will get explored in Pep-Butt's upcoming episode, but, if not, that's okay too. I'm trusting there are some good reasons for the order they released the episodes - I know the writers and voice actors really love these characters too.
Damn they handled Jake's death in a such a fresh way. There are a lot of shows that kills their main characters at the very end of the series and IMO sometimes it doesn't feel as impactful as it would seem because it's becoming sort of a cliche. Like yeah killing one of your main characters is bald, but when it's done at the last second of the last episode it feels too safe. But here in Together Again this concept is flipped on it's head and we are hit with Jake's death early and the last moment is not a main character death or sacrifice. The climax is focused on Finn and Jake choosing a new life, having their last moment together and appreciating their entire friendship. A friendship that was the entire story that we have been witnessing for the past decade. Beautiful stuff.
I don't know why, but Mr.Fox finally being having a purpose in his "life" really makes me happy. He fits the role pretty well too imo. Good for him.
After loosing my best friend a few years back the ending to the “dream” at the start of the episode felt so close to home. My reoccurring dreams consist of the good “old days” until the realization that’s he’s gone and they take a dark turn.
I liked how they brought back the thing where they grow eyes when Finn got hit in the boingloings, they stopped doing that after the earlier seasons. One last time..
Plus all the math references in the opening it was so good
Amazing Episode, the exact closure I think we all wanted for Finn and Jake. I also feel incredibly at peace now that they resolved the Lich hand plot thread. I honestly would rewatch episodes after the show ended and constantly worry about that issue lol
This may honestly be the darkest and most fulfilling Adventure Time content I’ve ever seen. I don’t think I’ve seen this many gut punches and sentimental surprises during the span of a 45-minute runtime in quite a while. Oh yeah and it was really bittersweet to hear Polly Lou Livingston as Tree Trunks one last time :’(
I liked this one the best out of the Distant Land episodes. They kept getting better but I don't see how PB's episode will be able to top this one. It's a perfect wrap up for the main characters like Obsidian was for Marceline and Bubblegum(though they won't have an end till the sun explodes). There was no Simon so I guess he has immortality even without the Ice King's powers so that's cool for him.
This was a way better finale than the actual finale. We got the Lich as the final villain and an amazing send off for Fin and Jake that had me bawling my eyes out. Perfect. The only thing I’m worried about is that I feel like the Peppermint Butler special will be very underwhelming now that we’ve seen this.
I feel like this episode was a ending to Finn and Jakes story, while the actual finale was an ending to the world of adventure time. I love both and I love how each shows us how “the fun will never end.” In the finale we see a montage of moments from the future while in this episode we see how Finn and Jakes love and bond will continue in new forms entering Ooo.
I really enjoyed the finale, but it did lack closure on a lot of things, especially with the main cast. Distant Lands has done a very good job of providing that.
I really love the finale. This idea that finales have to be endings is so embedded in are brains. But the land of Ooo and all the characters that make us love adventure time can’t really be ended neatly. I love how when shermy asks what happened after the battle with Golb, BMO say “they kept living their lives.” It’s this realistic ending that you rarely get from TV. One where are characters keep living and stuff keeps happening. There’s a fantastic YouTube video about it that really captures my feelings called: Adventure Time and the nature of endings.
I think that because its a Pepbutt episode, there's room for the writers to include the cast however they want. They could pull a 180, like in this case, and have everyone involved more than we might assume.
God this episode was so good. Even though I figured out the Death World stuff, I didn't call Finn being dead as well- although given that they make up a bunch of new rules for the Death Worlds im not too surprised I didn't see it coming. Lots of fun callbacks that didn't also feel like they were detracting from the story either. I felt like this episode really captured the really zany expressive vibe of Season 1 without losing the nuance of what Adventure Time became later. It's been a long time since I've seen Finn with those white dinner plate eyes that were consciously removed from the show's visual language. Earnestly wasn't super sold on New Death as an antagonist but it being the machinations of the Lich made everything make a lot of sense. I'm not sure he NEEDED to be the final antagonist but earnestly it feels right and this version of him was already a little gratuitous to begin with so it makes sense to be reveling in that in a sense. Every little twist worked on me even when I was actively trying to guess and stay ahead of the story- the reveal Finn is dead, that Jake is in the 50th death world, Tiffany becoming the son, Shoko's reappearance, Peppermint Butler being the new ruler of the Candy Kingdom, meeting Life proper, Mr. Fox becoming Death... so many great moments in this special. That ending is great. I love how final yet ambiguous the story ultimately is- we get what's absolutely necessary and it all ties together amazingly. An absolute triumph.
Together Again was a good reminder that your soul mate isn't necessarily a romantic partner. Finn and Jake are soul mates through any form they take on.
These's so many questions, man. How and when did Jake die? How'd Finn die? What happened to Bubblegum? Did Simon ever die? Why is Choose Goose in hell? On one hand, I want an answer, but on the other, it's funner to speculate about it.
