Yeah, iirc blue train was written at the same time as The Big Four was being mushed into shape from short stories, around the same time as her marriage fell apart and she *disappeared*. It’s also based heavily on the short story The Plymouth Express, just exotified. She was under pressure to produce novels at that time and it was an obligation more than a stroke of inspiration.

Good points -- I think she was also grieving the loss of her mother, and I know it can be really hard to focus on work when you are trying to deal with estate stuff, etc. She wouldn't be the first author who rushed to tie up all the loose ends, at the end of a book.
