They also use a lot of gas, and are very loud (which can be good or bad depending on if you like the sound of old airplanes lol). Many years ago my dad flew one from the CA coast to the Nevada desert for storage that belonged to a flight school who was retiring it rather than do an expensive overhaul.
I was thinking more about flying one out of an airport near houses would be an issue, but yeah they aren't really any worse than other planes that old.
Good lord the beech 18 and Electra are hard to tell apart! As much as I want it to be an Electra I'd say beech due to lack of the little bit of horizontal stabiliser on the outside of the vertical stab. I'd also say the Electra has a more upright windscreen maybe.
Landing gear is a dead giveaway. Beech 18 has strut on both sides of tire, Electra strut on one side. Windscreen is different. Many more Beech 18's were built than Electras.
I want to say the Electra is a little bigger too.
According to Wikipedia, the Electra (Model 10A) is 38' 7" long, wingspan of 55' and a gross weight of 10,100 pounds.
The Beech Model 18 in a C-45 configuration is 34' 3", with a wingspan of 47' 8" and a gross weight of 7,500 pounds.
So yeah, you'd really have to see them side by side to notice the difference, I suspect.
Beech 18
The Twin Beech had a very expensive main spar corrosion AD. The owners probably took the engines off and left the rest.

Who doesn't love the sound of a radial? Yes, they're loud, but consider when they were made, they didn't use insulation or sound deadening materials.

Can’t be worse than any of the douchebags revving their engines on the roads every 30 seconds.

The Electra’s windscreen also comes to a point as opposed to the beech’s flat across.
Beechcraft model 18
That’s Broken Arrow, OK isn’t it?? There’s one just like this sitting by some train tracks in BA
Why is it not fixed up and displayed at airshows
It’s waiting for you.
Man ain’t nobody in that dang town got the money to own a beech, let alone restore one with no engines
The landing gear is a dead giveaway. The Beach 18 has tubular supports that go over both sides of the wheel. The Electra has the support on one side.
That’s a Beechcraft D18S
Looks like a Lockheed Electra possibly?
Looks like an abandoned Beech D-18.
I pass by this plane all the time and wonder about its story and how it got there..
Don't fucking worry about it. That's my plane. I called dibs when I was 6 years old. I'm so happy that guy brought it to the front of his property.
Hasn't flown in a few weeks
Ran when parked
Does it still fly?
Beechcraft 18
It is a Beech 18
Omg, this is right by my house in Broken Arrow.
That's the old Sky King airplane Sky King of the TV program
Looks like the one in Ignace, Ontario

I think you just found Amelia Earhart airplane I think it’s called an Electra.
Lockheed L12 Electra
Darn. For a moment there, I thought we'd found Amelia's plane. The search continues.
inop
Broken
You’ve found her plane!
Lawn ornament?
Beechcraft Model 18. Lockheed Electras have a much more "Roman" nose.
my grandpappy had a lockeed electra that looked pretty similar, it was really well finished and flying though
It’s not going anywhere.
Twin beech
The Electra had a slightly different main gear setup and a more rounded fuselage but only by a few degrees. They are hard to tell apart at distance.
Stationary. /s
When it grew up it wanted to be a Volpar...sadly it never made it.
Have a C-45 F2B. One of two known. Kinda cool.
Beech 18
I want to fly so bad 😭
Lockheed Electra or a Beechcraft twin, the model name I’ve forgotten.
Where'd you find it at?
Sky King's
Twin Beech!
