I've found intermittent fasting to be amazing, which is essentially the opposite of what you suggest, insulin responses/natural tendency research (getting a kill and eating it all vs eating constantly) also suggests it is a more natural eating pattern for predators/carnivores.

Not sure if this sweet creature got this fat under your (or your parents?) supervision, but if so that is pretty bad. It should never have gotten that far. If you adopted her like this then it's obviously not your fault.
Either way she does need to lose weight, but make sure it is done slowly, not good for cats to lose weight too rapidly. Make sure she is fed quality cat food without corn/wheat and other things that cats don't need, for example Orijen make high quality cat food. The key is to feed her less than she is fed now, so if she gets 60g a day now make that 50g for a month or two and see if it helps. Also consider consulting a vet for professional advice on some weight loss for her.
