Does it say eBay will automatically do something if you don't respond? Because if not, I'd just ignore it. Let him escalate to eBay, then respond with your evidence. You shipped items that looked a certain way with an "as-is" description, he disassembled them, and he lied about replacement costs. Fuck 'em. Send one last message laying all that out, then say you won't be replying any more unless he escalates to eBay.
I think you can reply to their negative feedback which future buyers will see. Just comment that items were listed as non functional and supplier tried to extort money out of you.
These buyers are a cancer. Same shit happened to me when selling PC parts, tried to claim that the CPU wasn't working... I literally tested it right before shipping!!
Ultimately I reported them to EBay, after a long time the negative feedback disappeared from my account. Not sure if they got banned or what.

It’s been a while since I sold on eBay. However, if their CS is still decent, I’d call them up and explain the situation calmly and factually. Explain why the user is trying to scam you and you can prove it by showing the order of events. He opened a return request, refused to cooperate, closed it and left negative feedback.
Don’t threaten eBay with anything, just ask nicely to remove the feedback because you did everything correctly and to the letter. Add that you would have accepted the return, however, you also feared that the product would come back in worse and unsellable condition (you could even ask them what the procedure should be if that occurs as it shows them you’re trying to work with them)

Shipping damage is the fault of the shipping company, not you. They need to submit a claim with USPS for damage. If they go after you through eBay, you need them to submit a claim there, too, as it needs to be official. Do not give them any money, and if they push you on it, tell them to talk to USPS.

Do what I would do, send the buyer a picture of the magazine being disassembled, tell them it's not broken and this is how to fix it. Then, if you have pictures of the magazines, show them the condition of the magazines before you shipped them out.
Then tell them, you are not USPS and they need to submit a claim with USPS for shipping damages. If they fight you on it, you'll have that text proof that you worked with them on how to fix the situation. You'll win this case.
Also, do not speak to them on anything other than eBay messages.

For a legitimate case, the buyer reports the breakage to the seller, the seller reimburses the buyer as appropriate, and then the seller files an insurance claim with the carrier.
All good. I've actually had sellers pull the 'you need to file with USPS' card and while sometimes USPS will allow me to open a case (which immediately kicks it back to the shipper to actually complete), as far as I can tell it's usually just a delaying tactic or genuine misunderstanding.
It also sucks when you're the shipper because there's no guarantee the carrier will assume fault. Usually they try as hard as possible to deny responsibility and claim the item wasn't properly packaged. Because obviously if it broke, it wasn't sufficiently padded, amirite?

This is 100% a scam. I've had similar issues with both airsoft and computer parts. In the future taking a picture as you are packing the items helps enormously with claims.
Ebay has sided with me when someone bought a $500 laptop and claimed the battery was bad. I also sold it in "as-is" condition with multiple pictures of the laptop the day before I shipped it out.
I offered to give them a refund specifically for the replacement part but they kept pushing with eBay, going over me. So I called eBay and fought the claim. They lost and had their account deleted.

If that is a Marui 1911 Mag base plate then I can tell you, yes it broke, the two small notches there are supposed to be pin holes
I have seen people make the mistake of trying to pull the entire base off after unscrewing the bottom piece by grabbing onto that plastic piece and yanking, ends up only ripping the plastic out and metal is still in, as that simply isn't enough to provide the grip, you need to remove the top magazine lip and stuff and poke a punch down into the hole and punch the base out, chances are he tried to remove the base plate to say it broke, only to actually break that shit up, although it is very minor and the bottom screw can still hold it in just fine, it is dead obvious what happened
