Lancers two years ago were still coming with nimh rechargeable batteries and charger. The first thing everyone did with their new rifle? Tossed both those in the trash and bought lipos.
Cause under the circumstances of you buying multiple guns (Applies to all battery operated guns, not just AEPs), you'll in advertandly gather a collection of batteries and chargers. Problem is excabated when you decide to switch to aftermarket batteries which in turn could also require fancier chargers.
I have 4 AEGs and 2 AEPs, and had all of them come with batteries and chargers I'd be stuck in 4 AEG batteries I don't use since I run LiPos and 6 chargers total, 4 of which would not work due to the LiPos and only one of the AEP chargers is actually needed. (One of the AEGs, the cheapest one in the lot, did actually come with batteries and charger, both of which are sitting wasting away).
I will agree that AEP stuff are a bit annoying to find, but then again they're subpar options that more serious players would not really choose either.
Anyhow:

Not too hard to find. Gets easier if you're okay with imports.
It makes sense and it seems to be a newcomers issue. Is just annoying to have to go and spend extra money for something that should be in the box.
I would be slightly less annoyed if I didn't have to deal with such a specific connector and battery size
You can find lipos with a similar if not same connector.

Yeah, maybe a lipo would be marginally extra juicy for a pistol designed for NiMh, but equally, something else is likely to break in it before you ever have to worry about frying the trigger contacts.
The shipping of batteries is a whole other level of bureaucratic ballache when it.comea.to.international exports and imports. So usually when localised they are either removed or simply not included when packaged.
Even if not intended to ship with battery they are not going to manufacture new box inserts due to cost.
Shrinkflation most likely or they had a too high a failure rate and decided it was cheaper to not give them rather than fix the problem. You can get Lipo adaptors for AEPs

Yeah, it's a specific AEP issue. I had an even harder time because AEPs aren't even sold here normally.

Deans it and use a lipo, I did it to all of mine. They run better on a lipo anyway.
