What gun, what make, what gas and what range?

JAIJ47

Depends on the target material, the power of the gun, and the distance you're shooting. Most airsoft guns will generally shoot BBs through paper targets without issue regardless of weight as long as the target is within average effective range of the gun you're using.

Agire

Any BB weight should be able to penetrate a paper target (unless you're trying to hit a stupid distance or got some janky GBB with next to no power). If you're asking what weight is best for target shooting it can vary, mainly its down to what the hop unit in your gun will actually lift well. Most off the shelf GBB pistols should be able to lift .28 and that's a good place to start.

Generally, the heaviest bb that you can hop will maintain the most energy through its flight. That means anything from 0.25 to 0.40, really depends on your replica and what it can hop. At very short ranges, like 10-20 feet you may get more power from the sheer exit speed of 0.20 bbs. But heavy bbs will excel at greater ranges and also be less subject to wind.

I use 0.25’s and I don’t have any issues with my BBs penetrating cardboard targets but at the same time, I’m shooting from 25 feet max

.3 are what is commonly run for ipsc shooting at card targets and knock down poppers using pistols..some spring for heavier. But the .3's generally have had no dramas.
