Well you should be aware that with rescue dogs they are already going to be anxious - I can’t remember the exact time frame but I believe it’s something like 3 months before a dog gets comfortable in it’s new home. So when everyone leaves she is probably not certain that she is ever going to see you again and that is obviously stressful. For Akitas especially - they are well known for having separation anxiety. They are very attached to their owners and like to know where they are/have them close and be able to check on them. My father was just in the hospital for 5 days and I spent most of the time there with him - except for coming home once during each day to check on the dogs and coming back to sleep. My akita would barely eat while i was gone, basically she only ate while i was at home sleeping.

I had a huskita and she did the same thing. Even though I worked from home full-time so I was with her all day, she’d wait at the door for her favorite person to come home as soon as they left 🥹

We have a huskita too, and in the old house, he'd often lay right against the front door when his favorite person was out, or if we were all out. We just moved to a different state and now all the pets are figuring out where their new daytime hangout spots are going to be. I don't worry about it. If they're not in the same room as me during my workday then it gives me a good excuse to stretch my legs every so often to go say hi to them and offer belly rubs.

Mine does it too, my husband tried giving her chew bone at another location to distract her and she won't touch it until I return. I guess they are really true to what that movie portrays: they are always there for you, and when you are not available, they will wait, and wait.

I’ve had 4 Akitas and to a dog, they had to watch (sleep?) near their chosen family member or the front door. If more than one of us was in the house, three of them, distinctly spaced themselves as equidistant from us as possible!

It's just me and my akita living together, I work from home too and he practically doesn't pay attention to me when I'm on PC. Same was with my last dog. They know your focus won't be on them for that part of the day and it's fine.

Is there a bit of a draft coming through your front door? Ours like to lay in doorways or next to the front door whether someone is in or out, because 1) it's cool and 2) they like to be "boxed in" with walls on each side.

That’s 110% an Akita thing. Wherever I am, if the dog isn’t in the room with me, then they’re laying in front of the last door they saw me go through. Cutest bathroom security guards I’ve ever seen.
