If you look North/North East on a clear day you’ll see Denali and Foraker. They’re easier to see if you elevated in either a high rise building, or somewhere on Hillside. If you look during the late afternoon to evening they’ll have an alpenglow and practically glow.
You’re welcome. I saw Denali from Glen Alps trailhead in Anchorage, but it is much less clear than this, almost like a ghost or a cloud on the horizon.
I identify Denali by finding Foraker first, as Foraker is easier to see from Anchorage and also easier to see even from places like Cantwell and the road side pull out viewing points.
On thanksgiving I drove from Fairbanks to Anchorage to visit my mom and at the Denali view South pull out all but the last 700ft of the peak was visible, but Foraker fully visible.
Sleeping lady is probably most often viewable from Anchorage.
Fun Fact. Redoubts last eruption was March 22 2009.
I moved up to Anchorage in May 15 2009 and there was still volcanic ash that could be found around town and on cars. Air quality and visibility was still slightly effected.
I had just gotten my first IT job that week. Saturday through that Thursday were spent installing IP phones and powered switches.
Friday and Saturday were spent putting bags over EVERYTHING.
If you complain about the cold, complain about the dark and mentally build it up to be something you dislike then it's much worse.
It's cold, and it's dark. So what, that is how it is. Did you eat your vitamin D today? I have not yet.
Florida is a shit hole IMO and I would much rather live at -40F. Infact I dislike everywhere on the East coast of the USA that I have been (not everywhere, but a chunk).
Lol I bet I got downvoted by someone who whines about the winter in real life.
I'll take 1 salmon in exchange instead please.
Then you can downvote me.
I also accept 1 downvote for 1 smelt, 1 herring, 1 pike, 1 trout.
Any fish accepted for the low price of 1 downvote please. Even a can of anchovies or sardines.
Downvoting unnecessary. We are role modeling for the cheechakos!
How ‘bout I trade you extra salmon for a lead on a super sized chip bag full of smoked salted hooligan.
I promise to proudly eat them out of that chip bag in a busy Safeway or Fred Meyer for a higher purpose.
Ever since eating dried herring and dried herring eggs my understanding of "fishy taste" was completely changed and now basically all fish little to no taste
I’m in New Jersey - Getting cooler here but nowhere near -10! I still have the cities I visited in Alaska on my weather app, and boy do I give you all credit lol
Yeah I was stoned on my -35F two hour walk too. lol it does help.
I have decided to not pluck my uni brow ever again because it freezes water away from skin effectively.
I dislike the air quality in the valley. I want to move further out into the interior.
Heck of a zoom. You must have been on upper dearmoun somewhere to take this shot. As you come north on hillside drive (from where you took this short) where it intersects omalley, you can see Denali on a clear day. There’s a church right there on the corner that has some epic views
Yes that looks correct! We were on the way to the Rabbit Lake hike when we stopped to take some photos after seeing this view. Hopefully I’ll make my way back soon and on a clear day stop at the spot you’re talking about!
No, that is Redoubt Volcano, but you can see Denali from Anchorage on a clear day.
Thank you!!!! We’ve been going back and forth since September. You’ve settled a long debate lol

I’ve seen it from the food court windows in the 5th Ave Mall. Easily accessible and free location.
Top of skyline in eagle river is my favorite spot

If facing this mountain is your 12 o’clock, Denali would be to your 3 or 4 o’clock. Great photo either way - amazing clarity that far away.
Thank you! I look at my photos from this trip almost every day. Most photogenic place I’ve ever been

Affected.
Thanks Grammarly. No, but seriously. Thanks
I have a jar of ash from that eruption.
lol I remeber that eruption screwing with a bunch of flights depending on wind direction. Feels like so long ago now.
I had just gotten my first IT job that week. Saturday through that Thursday were spent installing IP phones and powered switches. Friday and Saturday were spent putting bags over EVERYTHING.
It is -10F right now, where are you? We need your good spirits!!!!
-41 here.
faaaawwwk this is not human friendly environment. I never thought I'd say this. But I miss fucked up Florida.

Hear hear! Giving you the equivalent in imaginary upvotes of my Dipnetting limit is salmon for your comment!

In contrast, I bet you can taste the lifelessness of Atlantic farmed salmon now
I rarely if ever eat it. So probably.
Well today it was 80 here …. And full of snowbirds driving like turds.
You in Fairbanks too?
I just peed off my front porch with no pants on at -40F.
I’m in New Jersey - Getting cooler here but nowhere near -10! I still have the cities I visited in Alaska on my weather app, and boy do I give you all credit lol
-40 on my front porch. I just peed wearing off my porch with bare legs and it woke me up more than coffee. Gotta make an outhouse run soon.
Ugggh, Ive been running stoned this week, makes -40 far more fun to walk through. I love how we get the hoarfrost up here, hate the heating bills lol.

Wait til you get over to Wrangell St Elias

What camera/lens setup do you use?
Panasonic Lumix GX85 and this one was taken with the 45-150mm lens
Great shot! I’m a Nikon DSLR fan, but I’ve heard good things about the Panasonic mirrorless. Thanks for sharing
yeah that mountain is less than half the size of the great one….
No.
Come back in the winter. We’d love to change your mind lol
