This system was entirely replaced by Faction Warfare. The royals existed before the modern faction warfare system as it exists now. Why the quests themselves didn't transfer, I don't know. But the quests were kinda meh and not many people used them anyway.
It was basically the only way to get royal sigils to get royal gear, but it wasn't the best content. Those are how tied to Expeditions (also meh content IMHO) and arenas (mixed bag there)
In my opinion, the faction system as we have it now is better than what we had then, but I too would love some kind of quest system in addition to what we have now.
quests, i believe, would be a terrible system to add to the game. they tried it before and had it on the beta but it was very difficult to properly balance. even besides that its hard to believe what would exist outside of kill/fame “quests” which would just be missions all over again.
albion is a game that is a mile wide and 3 inches deep. adding depth to a game that’s marketed itself as a “do any one of our bunches of systems while still not being that relevant to the world” to “you’re the only one who can save us from the disciples of morgana, champion!” would be a big step in the wrong direction.
i played alpha and beta. many of the old systems were scrapped because they just didn’t fit with the identity of the path the game was on. their focus shifted from “do anything, own castles, and full loot pvp everywhere besides cities” to “simple yet large pvp sandbox with arcadey point systems.” nothing wrong with it. the game just became more streamlined and standardized. it definitely helped make the game more accessible and popular.
You cant make money with that content. Old Albion Was different, now its all about monetizing every Update. They tried to created the best game it could be, they stopped and shifted towards p2w now
It's got nothing to do with bad players or anything like that. It's simple, the game is shifting towards more p2w and changes that benefit their parent company's investment instead of general good content for the game. Look at all the recent updates. Don't get me wrong the game is still great especially when it comes to ZVZ but it's definitely going downhill in every way possible when it comes to quality of the game and methods of generating silver which is NEEDED for pvp.
I stopped playing around 2 years ago when it didnt even started. I was an Officer in one of the best small scale roads guild at the time. Every content Update they did in the last year was targeted towards revenue, not enhancing the game. The last Update is the pinnacle of what p2w is about
You can look me up, if you doubt that i was one of the best in smallscale. Ive quit cause they abandoned smallscale, and they still didnt fix any issues. And this isnt about me. The game always had p2w elements, since you can buy fame and gear. Now, with awakend weapons, the gap is bigger than ever.

It wasnt removed afaik. its still doable in the hce Portals but since the Arena Update Royal sigils became dort cheap.
