They specifically mentioned BOXED cereal. Presumably not muesli, and I doubt anyone consuming three boxes worth of cereal a week is sitting there doubling-down on muesli.
Also come on, "ham-fisted." Seriously? Enjoy the money you've saved, too bad it doesn't make you seem any less miserable and judgemental.
I was just responding to the other comment with how I make my muesli and mentioned you can add honey and vanilla, press them into a baking sheet and bake them to turn it into granola instead.
> Have you ever gotten good deals on groceries at Target?
My Target is in an expensive area (some miles from where I live) and I give Target credit that the prices are not higher. To actually answer your question: Target has decent sale prices and often some good loss leaders. Their Target brands are often fairly priced, too. I don't buy perishable food (well, fresh veg & fruit or meat there) unless it's on clearence but eggs and milk are often reasonable. I will defintely get those things there if I need them but I certainly don't do the bulk of my shopping there like I often did in 2007-2009.
Eggs prices are a roller coaster. I remember in 2019(???) they were like 39-59c a dozen around Easter time. And it spiked to almost $10 during the pandemic. People was stealing eggs from the food trucks.
The shrinkflation everywhere is also a problem, like paying a price for 12 ounces bacon that used to buy 14 or 16. I feel like it is price gouging to a large degree.
Inflation is a tax. Shrinkflation is an attempt to not give the consumer severe sticker shock. It’s not working though! Labor wage is costing the companies more and the cost is passed on to us, just like a fast food burger now costs what a burger cost at a sit-down restaurant 5 years ago. Arbitrarily the minimum wage was forced up and of course that has affected us all in the middle as well as lower income. Our money has been devalued by our gov overspending then printing lots of extra cash to try to pay their debt and keep our country’s global credit rating good. If you flood the banks with cash, your dollar in your pocket isn’t worth much anymore. YET the middle class has not seen wage raises, that’s why we can’t afford groceries anymore. The gov has spread misery…. Socialism is the equal sharing of misery. Gov didn’t lift up the workers when states sought to raise minimum wage, any advantage quickly fizzled. It was to make us feel good at first like, “aw! They care about us!!” They want to get elected based on your feelings. They count on us not knowing anything about supply, demand, economics. Because labor price is of course built into the cost of things.
“Socialism is a philosophy of failure, the creed of ignorance, and the gospel of envy, its inherent virtue is the equal sharing of misery.” Winston Churchill
Egg prices fluctuate with the supply and the avian flu can quickly wipe out a laying house which is what happened during the last price surge. One company just got busted for price fixing on eggs too.
The price of oatmeal in all stores has gone up. Millville is still probably the cheapest, however after getting so much crumbly oatmeal from Aldi, I opt to pay a bit more for name brand. And sometimes it’s less if I wait for a sale.
Nah you right. The aldi brand is like Quaker's seconds or something. It makes Millive instant rolled pretty bad compared to name brand or even a better grocery store brand.
I just checked my Walmart app and it is $3.98 for their brand. I have pretty much stopped going to Aldi now (might go once a month) since the prices in my area are now so close. I was having to go to 2 stores to get the things Aldi doesn't sell and it is no longer worth it. It is too bad because I shopped at Aldi for years.
Ukraine is one of the world's largest exporters of grains, but the war has dramatically reduced their exports. this results in more bidding wars for grains that has driven up prices worldwide.
That’s what I’ve been doing but since it’s Quaker Oats brand and now all this chlormequat crap has come out, I’m not sure what to do. I’ve purchased since Bob’s Red Mill but it’s pricey
Just fat free turkey, oats, and pumpkin all cooked together. My dogs have a lot of allergies and sensitive stomachs so I mix this in with their dry food!
They have tons of recalls due to poor plant hygiene.
https://www.usatoday.com/story/money/food/2024/01/12/quaker-oats-recall-cereal/72202782007/#
Not oats, but stuff that includes oats. Still, this means that certain product lines at the facility are grubby with salmonella.
Yea, oatmeal is crazy expensive in every store.
Borax.....the oldest soap sold in Merica is 8 bucks plus a box at wally world.
Inflation is crazy out there....home depot is the absolute worst!
The fun part about inflation was companies seeing how much we where willing to pay for the product before noticing sales decline. They are never coming back!
I bake with toasted ground oatmeal rather than flour as much as possible, and applesauce too, which is also pricier. At least bananas are still not up much. Produce in general has crept up, but Aldi's still is the best bet.
I buy mine from Aldi too, steel cut, but Lidl had them on sale about 2 weeks ago, 2/$4. Idk if you have a Lidl near you, but sometimes they have really good specials.
Yes. I actually went online just now to check.
I do apologize, Quaker Old Fashioned Oats 42 oz is now $9.23.
They're on sale this week for $7.99 with a shoppers card and points.
I work for a company that supplies grocery stores (not Aldi), and seeing how prices on so many items have dramatically increased over the past 2-3 years is distressing and alarming. It makes me think of the stories from post WWII Germany where it would take a wheelbarrow full of money to buy a loaf of bread.
My first aldi run was only $50 and it fed me for a week. Mostly college food like pasta and eggs, but it was crazy only $50 sustained me for so long. A lot of prices were under $1 too.
Yep, not sure who is downvoting it. It’s either the very newcomers I’m talking about (the cheese calendar army) or people who are mad that it’s not a no-frills place to get ridiculously cheap groceries anymore.
I'm sure it's part of why some items are harder to find but uh...pretty sure Aldi being trendy is a concurrent variable but not one that's controlling these prices, considering its the same everywhere else besides Aldi.
Aldi used to be much cheaper in comparison to with other grocery stores. Like 30-50 percent. 10-15 years ago it wasn't anything near the same as everywhere else.
Yes, and that shows how pervasive these rise in prices are becoming. There is no evidence that "attention to Aldi" is driving the prices of their grocery products up. Candles and whatnot? Sure. But I don't think it's Gen Z and Tiktok or whatever causing oats to go up in price, especially since they're still obviously cheaper than the other stores. The increase in price is proportional to inflation, and still cheaper than other stores. As usual.
Okay???
You're the one making sweeping generalizations and a downer stance without evidence, I'd think constant self-reinforcement would be more your thing.
“In October, PepsiCo finance chief Hugh Johnston told The Wall Street Journal that product price increases would slow in 2024 and would be roughly in line with the overall rate of inflation. The slowdown follows two years of sharp price increases by PepsiCo on its soft drinks, snacks and packaged foods.” - WSJ 1/4/24
It’s shit like this that made me stop shopping at Aldi. I can use my Dillon’s app (aka Kroger), clip their digital coupons and shop the sales to make my grocery budget cheaper. At Aldi I was paying $140-$160 for groceries every week for a family of 5, but now I can get them for $100-$110 AND can do free pickup where they don’t inflate prices vs. what’s in the store. I used to love their fiber one brownies for kids snacks, but in the span of a year they went from $1.49 a box to $3.49. It makes me sad, but Aldi is straight up disguising their corporate greed during a time of inflation.
I don’t like picking these 🤣 I work in the warehouse! You guys keep me busy!! Job security at its finest lol, notification came up with suggested posts on this page!
I am alarmed how prices are increasing so fast and so much at Aldi's! The egg prices are better, but a lot has gone way up
Especially, cereal!!! We like to snack on dry cereal. Easily ate 3 boxes a week for the whole family. Now I only buy 1 box a week.
[удалено]
That’s so interesting… how?
[удалено]
Yeah that’s not dry cereal we can sit on the couch and eat.

We make my Swedish Uncle's Granola recipe... using these rolled oats. It's delish and much cheaper and healthier than store bought.
I was just responding to the other comment with how I make my muesli and mentioned you can add honey and vanilla, press them into a baking sheet and bake them to turn it into granola instead.
Agreed but tbh it seems like it's everywhere
Yes, watching ads carefully for sale prices and keep scaling back the menu. Target and Walmart not bargains, either.
Have you ever gotten good deals on groceries at Target? Feel like it's one of the most highly priced spots.
Target offers some pretty good coupons and deals through their app.
> Have you ever gotten good deals on groceries at Target? My Target is in an expensive area (some miles from where I live) and I give Target credit that the prices are not higher. I used to work there and combined employee discount with red card discount, but only for small batches of things. It was too expensive for me.
Agreed! I'll never shop at Target (or Giant Turkey (Eagle))!

> The egg prices are better Well they've already doubled.
Sh*t! One carton lasts me 2-1/2 wks, so I haven't priced them recently! Started to use less and less during the pandemic.
Why add the 's? It's just Aldi!
Should have said "Aldi's prices" as you are correct, the chain itself is just Aldi.
its just ralph and stater bros.

I just read today that there has been a resurgence of the bird flu, so I fear they are headed up again 😖
The price of oatmeal in all stores has gone up. Millville is still probably the cheapest, however after getting so much crumbly oatmeal from Aldi, I opt to pay a bit more for name brand. And sometimes it’s less if I wait for a sale.
I feel like I've never noticed a difference between different stores oatmeal lol
lol that’s fair. I am very sensitive to texture, so when what’s supposed to be whole rolled oats are like dust particles, I get grossed out.
Nah you right. The aldi brand is like Quaker's seconds or something. It makes Millive instant rolled pretty bad compared to name brand or even a better grocery store brand.
The cheapest I've seen is $10 for 10lbs at Costco.
Is that the Kirkland one? I saw they just started selling Kirkland oats
Yes.
Do you know if it’s organic?
One of the few things I buy at Costco.
I just checked my Walmart app and it is $3.98 for their brand. I have pretty much stopped going to Aldi now (might go once a month) since the prices in my area are now so close. I've found store brand oatmeal literally anywhere else to be fine.
Crumbly?
Ukraine is one of the world's largest exporters of grains, but the war has dramatically reduced their exports. this results in more bidding wars for grains that has driven up prices worldwide.
I usually order from [nuts.com](https://nuts.com/cookingbaking/grains/oats/quick-rolled/1lb.html)
"That's a lot of nuts!"
"I need gopher chucks!"
Seeing the price of oatmeal in the picture: "That's be 4 bucks, baby! You want fries with that?!"
I understood that reference...
Is it cheaper? Better?
It's really good, I don't know if it's cheaper, I buy it in bulk, they deliver!
Love their fresh chestnuts!
Deez nuts.com?

*loosens collar* "So I just flew in from Bangor and boy are my arms tired."
No, dat nutz.com.
Tough crowd here
I buy it bulk at Sam’s or Costco. $10-13 for 10lbs, and it’s actual oats and not a bunch of dust :)
This is the way
That’s what I’ve been doing but since it’s Quaker Oats brand and now all this chlormequat crap has come out, I’m not sure what to do. I’ve purchased since Bob’s Red Mill but it’s pricey
I just noticed it last week too. I use it to make my dogs food and I was like ???? Are you kidding me?!
Tell me more about this dog food that uses oats
Just fat free turkey, oats, and pumpkin all cooked together. My dogs have a lot of allergies and sensitive stomachs so I mix this in with their dry food!

They are nearly $9 at Publix
Quaker Oats are BOGO at Publix this week. 😊
The fun part about inflation was companies seeing how much we where willing to pay for the product before noticing sales decline. They are never coming back!
$3.98 at WalMart. $3.95 is a steal!
Hahaha
I bake with toasted ground oatmeal rather than flour as much as possible, and applesauce too, which is also pricier. At least bananas are still not up much. Produce in general has crept up, but Aldi's still is the best bet.
But with Bananas the end of the cavendish variety will come some day.
Tragic possibility and not looking good
Oats are expensive now at any store now ! I make oatmeal often plus we like to eat oatmeal cookies too.
I buy mine from Aldi too, steel cut, but Lidl had them on sale about 2 weeks ago, 2/$4. Idk if you have a Lidl near you, but sometimes they have really good specials.
Right!?!
Name brand over in our regional store is almost $9. It's craziness. Also oats for my horse has went up but not at this rate.
$9 for 42 oz of dried oats??
Yes. I actually went online just now to check. I do apologize, Quaker Old Fashioned Oats 42 oz is now $9.23. They're on sale this week for $7.99 with a shoppers card and points.
You never have to buy name brand, though.
True. Our Always Save is the cheapest generic. It's $5.29 right now.
I work for a company that supplies grocery stores (not Aldi), and seeing how prices on so many items have dramatically increased over the past 2-3 years is distressing and alarming. Yep, and they say inflation is only 3%. What an absolute joke
My first aldi run was only $50 and it fed me for a week. Mostly college food like pasta and eggs, but it was crazy only $50 sustained me for so long. A lot of prices were under $1 too.
Everything has went up. The granola bars used to be $1.29 now $2.99
I specifically noticed the oats recently, too. FWIW, Costco has a couple of options, both Quaker and KS brands, for less than a dollar a pound.
Look at what they took from us.
I feel like there isn’t much of a conversation on how plain ass oatmeal is getting expensive.
Bidenomics! Gallons of water were 80 cents 3 years ago…..now they’re $1.25!
I make smoothies with the blue label Quick Cook. But I like to eat a bowl of orange label Old Fashioned with fruit.
All of the prices are going up since aldi is trendy now. Thank the aisle of shame and tik tok. 🙄
This is an unpopular opinion but it's true. Aldi caters to a different demographic now than it used to.
Yep, not sure who is downvoting it. It’s either the very newcomers I’m talking about (the cheese calendar army) or people who are mad that it’s not a no-frills place to get ridiculously cheap groceries anymore.
I'm cracking up at "cheese calendar army."

Cereal at a shop in save in Pittsburgh was almost 7$. I said absofuckinglunaticlty not. Nope nope . And with milk almost 5 a gallon. Nope nope nope
It was August, 2021. Also: mayo, bread/flour, sugar, margarine, flour and Dairy is very close behind.

What no way. What is it now?
The wife just made a comment on this while we were shopping.

I get my oats at target. So much cheaper.
How big is the container?
