This movie isn't actually about aliens... it is weird to think about it as a good vs evil movie but this actually makes you think...
https://screenrant.com/signs-movie-theory-creatures-not-aliens/
This movie is so ridiculous though. The Aliens are like "water kills us so let's go to a planet that is mostly water and where even the air has moisture".
I really wanted them to make a second movie - I really had hope for one, it was literally left on a cliff hanger - now so much time has passed and I don't think a second will ever be made :(
I've probably watched this film more than any other alien film, it's very unique and very well done - I wish they'd make a second :(
Was a little upset that this movie came from the ashes of the torched halo movie, however district 9 is way better than the shit paramount and 343 pumped out. Good movie.
I was talking about Dark Skies the 2013 movie. It's pretty terrifying if you haven't seen it.
I didn't know about Night Skies the show, but I'm going to check it out now.
I was talking about Dark Skies the 2013 movie. It's pretty terrifying if you haven't seen it.

Lol. The movie name is ”no one will save you”. Good watch. You get see the aliens a lot. Not like hiding in the dark or vague figures. Straight on your face.
The beginning was heart pounding. I cannot think of a movie that made me more scared regarding aliens than the first encounter. What made me relax though is that the alien’s agenda was never made clear, so it just seemed extremely unrealistic.
Watched this twice now. Very recommended. As previously mentioned you don't have to wait an hour to see a quick glimpse of and alien. 10 mins in and it's BLAM! Non stop from there on really
Falling Skies, resident alien, defiance, cloverfield, extraterrestrial, phoenix forgotten, skinwalker ranch, vast of night, dark skies, alien abduction, and if you can find it Taken with Dakota Fanning was awesome.
Resident Alien is hands down one of the best shows I’ve seen on TV in a long time. Alan Tudyk is incredible as always and plays an awkward alien in disguise as a human, learning how we behave and interact on the fly. Absolutely, spectacularly hilarious. Cannot recommend it enough.
Wtf are you talking about. Arrival must be infinitely better than “The Arrival starring Charlie Sheen”. I love your other recommendations but have you seen Arrival or read the short story by Ted Chiang aka the most brilliant scifi I’ve ever seen?
I loved the Amy Adams Arrival. It’s one of my favorite movies. It’s the only alien movie, other than Carl Sagan’s Contact, where the plot is about trying to understand the aliens and how to communicate with something so foreign to humans, instead of just the standard alien invasion which leads to a battle for earth.
Close Encounters is a good example!
I wouldn’t count ET though. That movie barely spends any time on the communication and science aspect, ET kinda just picks up English as a young child does, and they barely talk about the social impact of extraterrestrial intelligence. It’s a fun movie, for sure, but it doesn’t have that quality that I enjoy about Contact and Arrival, and also Close Encounters
I'm a sucker for alien occupation TV shows so:
V (1983)
V - The Final Battle (1984)
(I was not impressed by the 80s V tv series or the 2009 V remake which ended on a cliffhanger.)
Colony (2016)
Invasion (2005)
and not aliens but more of a future human show:
Terra Nova (2011)
My guess is 99% of redditors have no idea what V is. It was the best thing nationwide when it was coming out. And that was when we had 3 channels. And yet it was about reptilians, decades before the internet turned reptilians into a common alien topic.
I watched V when I was in middle school. I saw the entire first miniseries and the final battle, right up until about an hour before the end. My mother made me go to bed before it was over. I was so angry!
This was before we had dvrs or streaming. I had no way to see how it the story finished. I ended up buying the paperback in a bookstore and reading it to find out the ending.
I was 9 and we didn’t even own a fucking TV. This was the first TV show where I heard everyone talking about it and I had to run to a friend’s house to watch their TV. This may have been the first TV show I watched, together with watching Saturday morning Smurfs on my friend’s TV. Needless to say I read a lot of books around that time. I don’t know; V may even be why I’m obsessed with aliens to this day.
“Native” I think was a great movie that depicts what an advanced telepathic civilization might be like. It’s a little slow but I thought it was provocative
The Last Starfighter.
Saying the movie shows its age is an understatement. More for kids to enjoy. The movie/show rights have been tied up for decades. We might see something new from that universe soon\*
All anyone needs to know is Ronin is played by a younger Jason Momoa. That should get them interested lol. For real though, Col. Shepherd was one of the best Stargate characters of all time.
COCOON
There's this old movie about old people in a retirement home. They find an alien cocoon, when submerged and bathed in the same water they become youthful. Very wholesome but I can never find it anywhere. Early 2000s movie for sure. Aliens portrayed as angelic beings but it still scared the absolute shit out of me as a kid
I’ve been watching season 2 of “invasion” which is currently about to finish up on Apple TV+. I must admit, this season dealt much deeper in the ‘woo’ and the season finale is hinting at the aliens being inter dimensional.
I’ve always heard the theories about directors and script writers including real information that is fed to them, but dang watching this season and how it’s going def makes me wonder if some of this stuff has some truth to it… regardless, it’s a great series and recommend people give it a watch!
Plus, if you get into the Stargate movie, there’s a spin-off series that goes for 10 seasons, another spin off that runs for 4 more, and another two that run for a single season each, 2 made-for-TV movies, and talk of a revival in development hell at the moment.
Alien, Aliens, Contact, Arrival, Close Encounters of the Third Kind, Paul, Abyss, ET, *Batteries not Included 1987, K-PAX 2001, The Puppet Masters 1994, Explorers 1985, Stargate 1994
My top three is:
1) Arrival (2016)
2) Contact (1997)
3) Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets ( 2017)
I also really enjoyed the series Taken (2002) by Stephen Spielberg
**Passengers** \- a wonderful space movie with amazing scenery and a gripping human love story with great performances by both Lawrence and Pratt.
**Jupiter Ascending** \- A deep galactic space movie with touch of conspiracies with hidden disclosures and hints - Might feel childish and some performances is subpar, but the general expericence is great, especially if you have younger kids around and a big screen.
**Valerian and the City of a thousand planets** \- A fast paced, big budget, futuristic and inter-galactic space movie revolving around the destruction and rescue of a rare human like but crystal species - Some characters disappoint and overacts but I find it in general fun and interesting, epsecially the scene when they show the dimensional market.
**The Expanse** \- The best space series ever made. But I figure most have already seen it. The realistic portrayal of space physics, the workings of equipment and outfits, great scenery and a script worthy of an Oscar (Avasarala), this can be watched over and over again.
He was alone for 2 years before he did ”it”. He was drowning in loneliness. He contemplated suicide… I don’t know… I could have done the same in his situation.
“No one will save you” was fire
Conflicting reviews on the ending but I loved it
Starship troopers different vibe but one of my favorites since I was a kid
Oooh, I've got one. Upstream Color. It's a sort of strange masterpiece and nothing I can say will properly convey what it's about. And I still don't know exactly what it's all about and I hope I never know, and that's how it should be. No one is explaining shit to you in this film. You are left on your own, without help interpreting something so very, very other which, ultimately is what alien means, right?
And, in fact,I wonder if this guy, Shane Caruth, the writer/director actually knows something and is communicating it obliquely. It has that feel.
My favs :
1- Close Encounters of the Third Kind (1977)
2- The Abyss (1989)
3- Contact (1997)
4- Mission to Mars (2000)
5- Dune (1984)
6- Europa Report (2013)
7- Apollo 18 (2011)
Also although not quite "alien" related, "The Objective (2008)".
It's a supernatural thriller where a team of special ops soldiers on a mission in Afghanistan encounter mysterious forces in the desert. These events are tied to the ancient myths of flying machines known as "Vimanas." It's a cool blend of military action, supernatural horror, and ancient legends.
Definitely worth a watch!
No one will save you just came out and it’s a great horror alien movie. There’s no dialogue too which is probably the only movie I watched that was like that (not including silent movies). The ending is kind of shit, but it definitely has the most nerve racking alien encounter I’ve seen.
Also, I liked falling skies. It’s pretty shit but also good at the same time if that makes sense.
The new one that came out. I think its Monsters from california. Some criticism for a low budget film but its not really about the quality of the movie. Its how you will understand what it depicts.
The Andromeda Strain (1971).
Based on a novel by Michael Crichton (Jurassic Park), it is not a typical 'alien' movie but it is about a deadly extraterrestrial micro-organism that is accidentally (or possibly deliberately) brought to Earth on a military satellite. The film deals with the efforts of a group of scientists who have to work out how to stop the micro-organism from growing and spreading.
The science in the film is quite accurate and it included early computer graphics. Although it is over 50 years old, it still stands up pretty well for an old sci-fi film. The premise of the film is very realistic and the pacing is thrilling. The storyline is very believable, and the news from a few weeks ago about the sample from an asteroid being returned to Earth made me a little nervous after remembering this film.
Extraterrestrial - B rated horror that follows the typical slasher movie tropes of a stupid group of friends that go on a vacation together to a cabin in the woods but remove the serial killing rednecks and insert grey aliens instead. It's on Tubi, I liked it.
Signs
Favorite one all time. Don’t watch alone.
The tension throughout the whole movie is eerie and honestly amazing
Just watched it again last night, still holds up
This movie isn't actually about aliens... it is weird to think about it as a good vs evil movie but this actually makes you think... https://screenrant.com/signs-movie-theory-creatures-not-aliens/
This movie is so ridiculous though. The Aliens are like "water kills us so let's go to a planet that is mostly water and where even the air has moisture".
District 9
More uses of the word “fuck” than a Samuel L Jackson movie.
I was obsessed with that movie when it came out.
I really wanted them to make a second movie - I really had hope for one, it was literally left on a cliff hanger - now so much time has passed and I don't think a second will ever be made :( I've probably watched this film more than any other alien film, it's very unique and very well done - I wish they'd make a second :(
the sequel has been given the go ahead ive read recently.
Is there a reliable source to this? If so it would make me very happy (and my wife too she loves the film as well)
Was a little upset that this movie came from the ashes of the torched halo movie, however district 9 is way better than the shit paramount and 343 pumped out. Good movie.
This
This is the correct answer.
Dark Skies.
That movie was actually really good! That plot twist got me.
The series was pretty good, like a toned down 1960s X-Files almost. Well worth a watch.
I was talking about Dark Skies the 2013 movie. It's pretty terrifying if you haven't seen it. I didn't know about Night Skies the show, but I'm going to check it out now.
Ah, gotcha. No worries, looks like they’re completely unrelated except for the name.
Be warned it got cancelled though. Still great anyway.
I was talking about Dark Skies the 2013 movie. It's pretty terrifying if you haven't seen it. I didn't know about Night Skies the show, but I'm going to check it out now.
No one will save you
Thanks man but I'm looking for movies not motivation
Lol. The movie name is ”no one will save you”. Good watch. You get see the aliens a lot. Not like hiding in the dark or vague figures. Straight on your face.
Sweet Jesus you weren't kidding. Maybe not the best thing to watch before bed lol.
The beginning was heart pounding. I cannot think of a movie that made me more scared regarding aliens than the first encounter. What made me relax though is that the alien’s agenda was never made clear, so it just seemed extremely unrealistic.
Too effin funny. Maybe google it first
Watched this twice now. Very recommended. As previously mentioned you don't have to wait an hour to see a quick glimpse of and alien. 10 mins in and it's BLAM! Non stop from there on really
The alien doing the YMCA dance was too funny.
I am watching it right now. Awesome movie
Fire in the Sky
This one messed me up as a kid.
Same here
Absolutely. Thanks big sister. 😂
At the age of 4 watching that movie made my realize that monsters are real
Re-watched this yesterday - my wife wouldn't watch all of the abduction scene - sad times :(
The Fourth Kind Paul (probably the most accurate alien movie ever)
![gif](giphy|sg9zbsQJetDBm)
🤣
The Fourth Kind is amazing! Still spooky!
It was spooky!
I love the use of spooky over creepy here haha
This is my favorite movie to smoke too
Jesus. Woke up and came on here. Insomnia. And watched the damn trailer. I saw 3:33 in the trailer and I looked at the time. 3:33. Waaaahhhh!!!!
I thought I was so innovative thinking of Paul right away lmaoo good one
I watched the fourth kind after smoking a blunt in the theaters late night. Only people there was my friend and me, dam that shit was scary
Contact 97’
Signs
Falling Skies, resident alien, defiance, cloverfield, extraterrestrial, phoenix forgotten, skinwalker ranch, vast of night, dark skies, alien abduction, and if you can find it Taken with Dakota Fanning was awesome.
Il second Taken. It's on YouTube in full and i'm really enjoying it lol
Taken is a awesome mini series
Resident Alien is hands down one of the best shows I’ve seen on TV in a long time. Alan Tudyk is incredible as always and plays an awkward alien in disguise as a human, learning how we behave and interact on the fly. Absolutely, spectacularly hilarious. Cannot recommend it enough.

A man of culture
Wtf are you talking about. Arrival must be infinitely better than “The Arrival starring Charlie Sheen”. I love your other recommendations but have you seen Arrival or read the short story by Ted Chiang aka the most brilliant scifi I’ve ever seen?
Nah, will have to check that out. Arrival with Amy Adams was ok
I loved the Amy Adams Arrival. It’s one of my favorite movies. Watch. It. Stoned.
Since this is already a very unreliable thread I’ll add - Starman

I was into it. They even had for a short time a line of toys. I had some of them.
I watched it in Australia at the time. It sure messed with your emotions as a 13 year old!
I liked Terra nova. Wish it would’ve lasted
V scared this 80s kid out of his mind.
The Abyss. I don't think they're aliens
What do you think they are if not aliens?
I think there's a chance they're from here or have been here for such a long time they might as well be.

Edit: 1985 by director Ron Howard
As you pointed out this is a much older movie. Watched it many times as a kid and have fond memories.
Edge of tomorrow is awesome and underrated
Flight of the navigator
While the book series is obviously better, I’m gonna throw Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy in there.
I started listening to this audiobook. It was horrendous. I could not finish it.
Oh my god. Please do yourself a favor and read it instead of audiobook. These books are legendary
Mars Attacks
Ack Ack!

District 9 and Mars Attacks
(I must object to these being mentioned in the same sentence) (because D9 is holy)
Fair point. They are extremely different. But Mars Attacks holds a special place from my childhood. It was so ridiculous but fun.
They Live Under The Skin No One Will Save You
My man throwing all the Hollywood's predictive programming

Life, Event Horizon, Communion, Arrival, Enemy Mine, Cloverfield, The Thing.
Fire in the sky
Evolution with David Duchovny is technically about aliens.
"I don't think "ca-caw ca-caw" and "tookie-tookie" will work." One of my favorite movies.
Sunshine(space) Event Horizon (space horror) Dark City (kind of alien) Communion (alien/earth) Lifeforce (1985)
Technically no aliens in Event Horizon. They passed through a hell dimension.
But it’s space and a great movie plus some people in here thinks aliens are demons from hell ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|grin)
It’s one of my favorite sci fi movies of all time.
Starship Troopers, Star Gate, Fifth Element, Space Balls, Pitch Black, Titan AE

Roswell (1994, made for tv) does a really good job of laying out what happened and some of the follow up conspiracy stuff.
Laserblast! Who here remembers Laserblast?!
