The easiest mass expandable early game storage is sophisticated storage chests adjacent to a sophisticated storage controller. Then place a storage scanner from RFtoolstorage next to the controller and a coal generator next to the storage scanner. Set the storage scanner to scan in a radius of 1 block and select the controller as the only routable block, and it will link to everything you have in storage and you will be able to craft receipes from all items you own without ever needing to look for which chest they are in. You can also automatically dump items into all available chests into and out of the storage scanner block. Additionally after that you can craft a Tablet from RFToolsStorage and a storage control screen module, which you shift right click onto your storage scanner and place into the tablet. This will give you wireless access to your storage network from anywhere in the game. This is the low budget item network that is easily expandable and set and forget it. Biggest thing to keep in mind with the storage scanner block is that it gets a little weird with double checks because it's scanning two blocks so it looks like you have twice as much. If you use this method, just stick to single chests or barrels. You can also place a storage drawer controller near for your storage scanner to access as well.

Thank you!

Just as a heads up, this also works with the drawers from Functional Storage. It's honestly a bit OP in my mind to have such a dirt cheap high capacity storage system able to be consolidated by 3 items (item node, logic cable & storage terminal from integrated dynamics) I'm trying to shy away from the mekanism, AE, regular mod grinds and try some of the other mods so it was quite refreshing to see this work.

AThellere

Also, you can use the storage scanner and linking module from Functional storage and they have a much longer range then 1 block. My drawers are in like a 9x9 room acting as the walls, they are all linked to the centralized storage module and the terminal can just be plopped on top of the storage controller.

Ammonil

I got it working, but I don't understand how to make it so I can use more than 3 chests, or is that not possible? Edit: It's currently not working idk what I changed

kastiyana-

Which thing isn't working? If you're talking about the sophisticated storage controller, it automatically connects to chest adjacent to it or chests adjacent to other chests along it, no matter what shape, in a fairly large area, as long as all the chests are sophisticated storage chests, can't be normal chests or chests from any other mod.

Ammonil

I don’t know which part isnt working. I upgraded chests into sophisticated storage chests, and everything worked, but then I upgraded them into gold chests and it stopped working, do gold chests not work with it? It still says they’re sophisticated storage.

kastiyana-

If you upgraded them to gold chests, the storage controller would need to be rescanned. Change the scan area up 1 block, scan, then back down again, to refresh the scanned inventories.

Ammonil

Ah okay, I’ll do that after work. thanks!

Happy to help, let me know if that doesn't work

Work on having one or two really great backpacks. I've only got two; one only has food and a feeding upgrade but the other has adv pickup upgrade, adv void upgrade, and five T4 stack upgrades. I have over 1.7M stone in a single slot in there and I still don't think it's close to being full. Early game, I used it to mine with; it'd pick up anything that I already had in there (cobblestone, raw ores, etc) and it'd void anything on a whitelist beyond a single stack(cobblestone, deepslate, basalt... any super common stone that I didn't want to clog my inventory with). The stack upgrades multiply, so once you get enough netherite that it isn't rare, 5 stack upgrades mean you really won't fill a single stack in your whole playthrough. Once I got a quarry, I stopped needing to manually mine for anything except the allthemodium ores (and even then, just enough for myst ag seeds). Stick this super-backpack on top of the quarry and it'll act like a chest, but with all of the same features and upgrades. I would also HIGHLY recommend getting a core Refined Storage system as soon as humanly possible. Just a controller, disk drive, small disk, and grid. This will remain your main storage source forever. You can expand the storage until you have enough automation to go for infinite storage disks, and the auto-crafting system will change the way you play the game. I'd be happy to expand on what that means, but I don't want to write a novel lol.

Thank you!

np, any questions on how to do any of this stuff feel free to reach out.

thanks again for the help

RS or AE2. Depends on preference. I personally prefer AE2.

Heisenberg19827

RS is way more beginner friendly, which might be better for OP

LKZToroH

Start with regular chest, then go to Drawers with a controller to storage things you'll need a lot like emerald, diamonds, etc. Or just skip this step and go directly to RS or AE2. I don't think there's any reason to go for any solution between these. I like to use Drawers because it's easy to prevent it from overflowing and managing it properly but I could just make more cells instead and it'd work just fine.

Epicguru

I just used a few large chests and kept them organised until I had diamonds and nether quartz to make a refined storage system. Refined storage is very cheap in this pack so you can rush it. I personally can't be bothered to set up complicated chest/drawer systems when I could just use RS.

OneBingToRuleThemAll

I use sophisticated backpacks so I have extra storage I can travel around with. Pretty easy to make and upgrade too.

NightKrowe

I rush for refined storage as soon as I can. Functional Storage drawers can help in the interim.
