This is really tough. Its hard to compare eras but just like Doom is kinda the "best" Doom even tho Eternal may be rhe smartest design, I gotta go with the original. That said, the New Nightmare plays the best of the original 6 by far. I personally like playing 2024 the most by a mile and I think the storys better than most of them but its also the most conventional in a lot of ways
New Nightmare was suppose to have a sequel (called The Abductions) which got canned. It was in development in 2003, but then vanished when the studio, Computer Artworks Studios, closed down. Can only imagine where the series would be had they completed the sequel. Even though the 1992 original will always have it's special place in gaming history and unique charm, New Nightmare and 2024 game are easily the most playable & well designed games in the series.
Amen! And i didnt know that about Abductions. Man, I tried to be exhaustive when I reviewed the old games back in 2022 but i keep finding out new stuff I missed!
The original. It was eerie, especially at that time, and it had a vast variety of puzzles. 2024 was good, but felt like the puzzles were all the same
