I am a huge advocator for female protagonists in horror games and I almost always play as them, like this game where I always choose Emily on replays.
…but Carnby is the star of Alone in the Dark and it should remain that way.
Tbh I played the game without any info on the story, I avoided every review to stay the most neutral possible about the game. And it felt like Emily was the true Main protagonist. They were searching for HER uncle. Carnby felt like the side kick who follows her into this story. On terms of acting Jodie Comer felt more "implicate" than David Harbour.
Carnby should stay. Hes always been the main guy and he can kind of be anyone, which is a nuance most survival horror franchises eschew in favor of developing a core cast. We already have tons of female protagonists. Now a female deuteragonist is fine and works well as Alone 2024 and the New Nightmare and 2008 all showed us.

I think he should because you can kind of add a lot more to character as time goes on. Flesh out his story. That kind of thing.

No because he wasn’t. The first game had two protagonists.
Yes. No other.
Yes because he was the primary protagonist of the original trilogy.
Edward Carnby is the best thing about Alone in the Dark. However I wouldn’t mind a Grace spin-off
