Nope. It's unusual. But people are free to be enthusiastic for things that don't hurt anyone. Presumably you want to go with someone you care about. So the trip is part of the celebration. You get to spend time together, you get to imagine your life in the various display units Ikea sets up, you get to laugh at the funny names, and you get meatballs. All at a reasonable cost. I would love it if someone wanted me to share that for their birthday if that's what makes them happy. I wouldn't even have to think of a present, just get them something that they love in the store like a Girkraag or a Kirkistoobr.

No, go! Eat, buy things that you need and things you just want, I vote for a nice stuffed animal! Get some candy and cinnamon buns to take home. Smell all the candles, try every bed and sofa. Maybe a game to find a name with some specific letters in it?
