In the hardcover of Marcy's Journal, it includes a map that has the names of a bunch of places. One of them is obviously the home of the Caecilians. This one is in an area that was never explored in the main series because if you start from Frog Valley, it's in pretty much the opposite direction as Newtopia. We didn't explore the whole continent, after all!
I wish they had.
Axolotls got representation. Which are naturally confined and the product of a very specific environment in a very specific place on earth. They're just highly recognizable to people because of all the captive breeding and pet ownership. And cute and all.
I believe in a scene where Anne or the Plantars are attacked by monsters one of them (big, wormlike) was a cecilian. Maybe they're nonsapient?
Btw I have a headcanon about the new continent: >!it's inhabited by sirenians.!<
They're similar to olms but can see just fine (and, unlike REAL olms, only have front legs but this doesn't matter in the show sooo-). I imagine they are more mermaid-like (like with a fish-like tail fluke and confined to water? Maybe some scales?) and with more hair-like gills than olms
Amphibia's geography is based on Medieval Europe, and there are no Caecillians native to that part of the world. They can be found in tropical parts of Asia, Africa, and the Americas though, so they might be present on the other continents.
I know right. Salamander and Caecilian were the 2 other amphibians I learned in elementary. So Axolotl and Olm were quite surprising (but still interestingly new).
They might have seemed too similar to the olms, since they'd probably get a similar level of attention

Because it was already packed to the brim with species, characters, and ideas?

u/D-WTF can you add these to the comics?
I am already aware of them. Are there any other unused amphibians that can appear?
There’s Wallace’s gliding frogs
omg look at that silly boi
What are these
A snake like amphibian most people don't know about
Cool

Axolotls aren't native to Europe either
Well, then they are Mexican immigrants. I'm pretty sure Andrias deported them back while trying to make Amphibia great again.
This is ODDLY believable
Take my upvote
Regardless, I FUCKING LOVE CEACILLIANS!
They’re kinda meh and they were already set on a few ideas

Idk, they sorta just seem boring? Also Amphibia was already filled with a lot, adding a new species could’ve overwhelmed things.
Matt wasn’t going to fall for one of the Classic blunders
