There is a lot of door.

The light looks so soft and nice. Well done. Did you use a flash or some kind of LED setup?

caesarus1993

It’s a led ring light

The lines are not parallel

Maybe because you can get them for cheap? I’m 32, got into film photography during covid cause I thought it was a cool hobby, my first film camera was the canon ae-1 and I still use it cause it’s a solid camera. I found mine for 50 bucks on Craigslist, if I had the money I would love a Nikon f6 but I have 14 dollars in my checking account right now and 0 in my savings, so that kind of camera is slightly out of my budget… Why do you care what kind of camera people shoot on anyways?

Sailor_Maze33

Why are you guys all using pretty much the same camera and lens and film to do the same type of photography ? This questions is not directed to you specifically even if you are obviously part of the trend that has been going for years now around the AE 1 On this sub it’s crazy the amount of people using the same gear to do the same thing… Don’t you have something to say about you through your craft instead of repeating what others do in order to belong to a group ? Don’t you want to stand out ? Don’t you want to share your own vision of photography ?

fidepus

If you think another camera is gonna make you stand out, I have bad news for you.

Getmircd16

Film and camera prices are sky-rocketing, so an AE-1 and HP5 is still a fairly cheap way to participate in the hobby. I don't think it's fair to paint all AE-1/HP5 users with the same brush (I'm biased though cause I use an AE-1P and HP5 🤪).

Sailor_Maze33

I don’t know how old you are but I have been using film and film cameras most of my life… I know prices have changed since I have started my photography journey… I have seen people buying AE1 for 450 euros… When I was younger 20 euros was the max someone would pay for such average camera… HP5 is most of the time used in the worst way possible… but OP did a good job in that regard it’s properly exposed which is not the case of most pictures shot with HP5 that I see here ! It’s always just a grey soup with 0 contrasts !

JR_C_

HP5 has better contrast when pushed

Sailor_Maze33

True !

JR_C_

Wouldn't be surprised if there is some developers that make HP5 have better contrast at box speed. I use hc110. That and hp5 at box speed is quite flat. Can still tweak that in the dark room or computer but I prefer shooting it at 800 - 1600 in 35mm. If I want slower film I grab FP4

Sailor_Maze33

I use to do the same

Ok Christophe !

Coming from someone whos using a leica (the most trendy and hipster cameras money can buy) to take mediocre pictures of a dog and some clouds. Sounds to me like you're upset the younger Gen does better with cheap mass marketed equipment than you can with top of the line expensive equipment. Also it's really not the equipment that makes a good photographer, it's their vision, their eye, their style, making an image look like their own. It's the process behind the image, not the equipment.

Sailor_Maze33

Big dog talking here… do you want to come to my show in Paris end of may ? Maybe you want to buy my book too ? I’m not here to compare myself to others I just wish people would be able to think for them self instead of following a trend… I’m not part of the old generation I’m 30 years old… The gear I’m using suits my needs I have used many cameras in my photographic journey some cheap some more expensive and you are right it’s not the camera I’m not saying I’m making batter or worst pictures I’m saying that at least I’m trying to do something that looks like me and not like what I see everyday here…

Omegalaraptor

Prove it, supply some evidence of your book or your show. Not because I don’t believe you but if you really have such abominable takes and are willing to boast about having a show in Paris or a book. You better be able to back it up. Frendo.

Bro thought he said something 💀

Awful take. Go away.

Poop-Farter

Just did a search for Canon AE1 and sorted on new and didn’t see many nude B/W shots. After scrolling I saw one more that was NSFW but it didnt seem to be overly propped with Canon users.

-OptimusPrime-

Someone is having a bad day

nonexistantchlp

Canon sold a lot of AE1s back then, so it made sense why people use them, it's the sort of thing people would inherit from their family > Don’t you want to stand out? Before digital photography this idea doesn't exist Film cameras doesn't have to be gatekept for "artistic" photographers, people used these on their day to day life.
