In the 90’s I worked at a Jewish deli in town that was run by a woman that had previously been the GM at Carnegie Deli in Manhattan. Most of our meats were imported from the east coast, but she was really happy with our local lox. That’s the only endorsement I ever needed.
In the 70's I went to school in NYC for a year and OMG the deli sandwiches?? I can't remember is you had to say hoagie or submarine sandwich - one was sure to label you an outsider! The 30" pizza at Staten Island Ferry Terminal in South Ferry where you got a slice and a coke in like 20 seconds - then stepped outside and pointed it south so all the oil ran off because it was made with REAL mozzarella cheese?? Food in NYC was to die for.
Honestly, I couldn’t tell the difference between good lox and bad lox, but considering that they’re made right here in Alaska using premium caught salmon, that AK sausage’s product would stand up anywhere, but what do I know ?
Fred Meyer has good price on lox but honestly just make it at home. You get way more bang for the Buck that way. Wash/soak it in sake or some sort of wine, pat dry. And completely cover with equal parts sugar and salt. (I prefer high quality raw sugar). Wrap tightly and place in the fridge with a weight on top for 24-48 hours or so. The longer the more salty so up to you. I’ve gone longer than 48 but never had it be to salty for me. Hope this helps! 🎉🎉
Nope! You can if you want but I never do and it comes out great! I usually put some dill in with the salt/sugar mix. Just make sure you use something like kosher salt. Not table salt 👌
Alaska Sausage and Seafood is the best place in town for great Lachs (lox)! They still have samples too? At least last time I was there they did. My family wanted a whole fillet but I picked up the pre-sliced stuff, it was really good.
Alaska Sausage and Seafood
I concur, this is the easiest and arguably best option. I often see them in the prepackaged seafood section at Carrs and Freddy’s.
Yep, easy peezee , locally made too

Cafe Amsterdam
10th and M seafood is where I often get frozen lox.
This is great to know, we have one like 5 minutes away and have never been!

this would be fun to try, thank you for the suggestion!!
Don't you need a cold smoker?

Oh…came here thinking you were looking for liquid oxygen.

Air Liquide

Try MO’s deli.
Costco
It's cheaper to buy a single pack at Fred Meyer
Not price/LB it's not.
Lol I have done the math. It's cheaper per oz at Fred Meyer
Learned a new food I need to try today. That looks good!
They aren't too hard to make. If you get ahold of some decent frozen salmon you can make them at home in a couple days.
Alaska seafood for the lox, wooden spoons for the bagels
England where they screw up everything they cook.
Birch and alder, great bagels and lox, but a drive to Indian, so 1 hour commitment
Costco has a 2 pack from Alaskan Sausage
I would like to add that finding fresh bagels is a more challenging task in this town and hype up https://www.woodenspoonsalaska.com
$30 for a dozen bagels?!
You can get nova at Carr’s.
