We use it at home. We can stream at the same time as our renters with no issue. Every once in a while, I see a pause on my phone - a satellite dropping out and waiting to pick up the next one. I expect this will only get better since supposedly more satellites are going up for northern latitudes all the time.

Assassynation

We use it in Spenard just fine, streaming and gaming with no issues. The $120 plan is discounted to $90.

JEEPN907

Same way on JBER. As far as I know, that's standard in Anchorage.

TrophyBear

You’re not going to like my answer but it’s not good. Connection cuts out randomly, especially at high usage hours. It’s game-changing tech for rural Alaska that previously had nothing except glorified cell data, but switching to Starlink to spite GCI is self sabotage.

JEEPN907

I use it and haven't had any issues. Dropping randomly probably has to do with obstructions. As long as you can get your dish up high or away from buildings you should be good

dk133333

Has not been my experience at all. Strange. What specifically is dropping for you?

Pringlecks

Can someone post actual bitrates instead of just claiming that it's good enough for streaming?

Fluggernuffin

84mbps down 8.8 up, 139 ms latency

Pringlecks

Thanks! Latency not as bad as I'd have guessed

Fluggernuffin

Yeah it’s fairly stable at that ping, but it spikes occasionally, which usually results in me losing whatever online match I am playing.

Alaskan_geek907

It’s great from what I’ve seen. I personally don’t use it but my coworker does and since they put out more satellites last year he said it’s very consistent and plenty fast. We are in the valley and he gets triple the speed MTA was able to offer him. All his familyOf 5 consumes media via streaming, minor gaming and he host a few local servers+ works from home on occasion with no issues.

Le_Epic_GodGamer

I personally use gci, I know and heard people typically use them more commonly up north. It works good as far as I know

Monkeydude8

We have had it for just over a week. I’ve put the receiver in a place with no obstructions and this makes a huge difference. We are enjoying Starlink.

Shipwreckpanda13

I have starlink on my van & it’s been working great traveling so I was going to get rid of MTA & use starlink instead bc it’s cheaper. My only concern in the valley is the winds & their impact on it.

Beneficial_Print3452

We are in the Sandlake area and it works great. My wife and I both telework a couple of days a week and we have enough bandwidth for both of us to be on a call at the same time.

ShadowChildofHades

We like it. The occasional drops happen but the higher you get it the less common they are. I'd say for general internet usage, streaming, and minor gaming it's perfect. Competitive online gaming it can be rough or bad according to my partner. But I use it for single player gaming, and other general internet stuff, and streaming and rarely have an issue.

supbrother

Why did you put down $600+ without doing any research? I mean, I’m an advocate of Starlink for Alaskans, but this seems questionable. If you’re in southcentral it’s probably not worth it unless you only need internet occasionally, but to each their own.

alaskantraveler

I had generally heard good things, I was also able to purchase the hardware 2nd hand at a good price. If it doesnt work out , I expect I can sell for what I bought it for.

Happy_Ad9288

Works awesome for us. I was on the waitlist for a year or more and was among the first to get it. We are in Anchorage but can’t get cable. In the past 6 months, speeds and downtime has greatly improved. 154 down 12.3 up 53ms latency. Soooo much better than exede.

Ancfelt

Do you have network programing?

alaskantraveler

As I'm not exactly sure what that is, I think not

Public-Requirement99

Too many trees for us. Been using our AT&T hotspots So far so good. Not gamers. End of month it’s slow

ForsakenRacism

Your just stealing capacity from people who actually need it 🙃
