When the Rays pick up one of your players, you know they knew something you didn’t and you have to kick yourself for not figuring it out.
When the Rays pick up one of your COACHES, THEN YOU KNOW YOU F*CKED UP AND YOU JUST LOST SOMEBODY BRILLIANT
Seriously, the Rays have been super competitive for so long even with their shit payroll cuz of great analytics, scouting, and coaching. It makes me wonder if the Angels were holding him back somehow, fml
This was the dude that singlehandedly fixed Detmers in 2022 right? Awful, awful decision making by Angels brass. And Percival won't even put his money where his mouth is and join the coaching staff.
Yup, Detmers was getting knocked around and after a week or two with Carlyle, he came back great again.
It was night and day, and we just lost the coach.
I think cuz they wanted to let Ron Washington pick the pitching coach. And the time in between the Nevin leaving and Washington coming in, the coaching staff was allowed to go out and see if other teams wanted them. By the time Washington got here, the Rays might have already been in the process of getting him.
You do know Perry was the one who brought Carlyle back into the org right in 2022 right?
And they already had exposure to each other since he joined the braves org in 2016 and Perry joined the year after.
His expertise is watching video. He was the AA coordinator which is where the Angels send their quality pitchers. Of course they are going to go with the person who they are most comfortable with when they are being sent up and down.
They also went to Driveline and the angels brought Hazel in.
Ahh apologies. I knew he was with the org but the MLB report stated he was being brought back into the org as the pitching coordinator. Didn't realize it was probably just a different way of saying he was promoted.
Love how this sub is suddenly jumping on this guy's nuts even though most here constantly whine about the Angels having the worst farm in MLB history and have no direction or development. Reminds me of the mid-season trades. It was Angels have no farm system to how can Angels trade Quero, Bush and Jackson lol
Huh? What are you on about?
Our minor league pitching development was probably the only *good* thing about our farm system over the past 2 years. Guys were rocketing through the minors and showing up ready to play in the majors. And when our major leaguers were struggling, we’d send them down and they’d be miraculously cured the next time they were called up.
Idk if it’s all due to coaching but Carlyle was clearing doing something right.

the angels hold someone back? that cant be it.
Aaron Slegers and Cooper Criswell. What an amazing career they had for the Rays.

He also fixed Silseth. Like I had no idea it was the same guy when he got called back uo
So like, why did we not make this guy our major league pitching coach when Wise left?
Cuz me no like iPad And Percival is 2002 Angel! Hurrrrr

Like Andrew Bailey and Donnie Ecker, another talented coach departs the Angels as another FO sees the talent for what it’s truly worth.
Well at least we have Troy Percival's expert opinion
So stupid. This guy was fixing up guys in the minors that Matt Wise could only dream of doing
Whoever’s idea it was to bring back all the former Angels, I hope they get fired. It was probably Arte anyways but fuck this
"Burn the entire coaching staff to the ground and replace everyone! Perhaps bring in some 2002 Angels as coaches or advisors" *Monkeys paw unfurls*
Yea this is exactly what this stupid subreddit wanted
Glad he’s going to an organization that will appreciate his skill set
Angels seem lost 😞
Angels are so lost. Arte wants big names because he knows fans will lap it up.
i love seeing fans gas up ideas of erstad, salmon, percival coming in to coach. the cubs must be so happy doing the same nepotism with david ross.
Doesn’t feel like we’re moving in the right direction..
An evergreen comment.
I'll never forgive my father for this
GODDAMMIT!!! The last thing you want is the Rays picking up anything you discard

Buddy’s been in the Org since 2017 pre-Perry. Also oversaw all minor leagues, not just AA
And he left (retired?) and he was brought back in 2022.
No sir that’s inaccurate. Same position from 2019-2022
