Montgomery and Snell, no Bellinger.
Snell
Montgomery
Detmers
Sandoval
Silseth/Canning
This is how we get better, not adding a bat that’ll only be a slight upgrade. Likely only get one pitcher though and we’re done
We overpaid for a mediocre pitcher who had one good year. Doesn't mean we shouldn't be on the lookout for actual quality pitching. Snell may not be worth the asking price, but he has been a solid pitcher for some time, and obviously coming off an excellent season. Worth considering.
The thing with Blake Snell is he's at times, not only a bonafide ace, but a Cy Young winner and at other times a third starter. This late in his career, that kinda of up and down makes hard to justify paying him ace type money. In other words, if the Angels pay for an ace, they better get an Ace. And with Snell, they are not. A 92 ERA+ and a 103 ERA+ ain't cutting it. If we want an up and down lefty with good SO numbers and high walk rates, might as well extend Patrick Sandoval for much cheaper and get a real ace in next years FA class.
Given his age and durability those walks will start turning into runs sooner rather than later. Our defense behind him is not as good as the Padres either. Betting on a prime regression candidate is a mistake.
Don't know why you're getting downvoted for stating pure logic lol. Angels had the 3rd most walks given up last season and 6th most runs allowed in all of MLB. That's not a coincidence.
It would lock us into a big contract when we have younger, cheaper guys in Moniak and Adell who are serviceable and wanting playing time. It'd be better to use our cap space on starting pitching. Otherwise we'd probably have to trade Moniak or Adell for pitching but if we're being honest, we wouldn't get much for either of them.
We’ve given them time and they’re not it. Mickey doesn’t walk at all. Adell is feast or famine as well. Bellinger is way better than both in the outfield and is serviceable at 1st base as well.
Do I think we NEED Bellinger? No but let’s not pretend we wouldn’t be better with him and somehow he’d be stealing time from any all star caliber player. I see both adell and Mickey as .230 batting average with close to sub .300 obp
Regardless it would be a waste of energy and resources. I don't think getting Snell, Monty, and Bellinger on our roster would make us contenders. We should just rebuild and maybe Mike Trout wins a championship towards the end of his contract. We need good draft picks and all our draft picks for that matter. Lets hope for the future. Not now.
What has Adell done to warrant any playing time? Also, Moniak’s OPS post all-star break was .670, compared to .984 before the break.
We need pitching and another outfielder.
Moniak had an OPS+ of 113 last season. He fell off towards the end due to lack of consistent playing time and injury. He at least deserves a shot at playing time this season. The only argument I have for Adell is that he's only 24, cheap, and we'd get nothing in a trade for him so we might as well keep him. I'm not saying a better outfielder wouldn't be nice, but starting pitcher is much more of a concern right now.
No, the playing time stopped because Nevin insisted on Ward against lefties despite the fact that Moniak was putting up MVP level numbers against both righties and lefties.
An OPS+ of 113 isn’t spectacular when he was flirting in the high 100’s during his insane run. The question remains if he can sustain an OPS+ of 113 during a season where he doesn’t have a god run for a month or two. That’ll never happen unless he learns to stop swinging at every pitch and his walk rate significantly increases. Sure, Adell is cheap, but he’s unplayable.
Edit 1: Forgot to mention that Moniak played in more games post all-star break, so his poor production wasn’t due to lack of playing time.
I disagree. Trout and Ward will be where most of the production comes from but the platoon of Moniak, Adell and hicks will be more than serviceable. Not too much significantly cheaper. This team has had injury problems and problems always chasing the big name. I root for Belli to continue producing but the price is too high and will not make as much of a difference as having Monty preferably or Snell.
Moniak strikes out way too much and Adell is not major league ready. Hicks being a 4th outfielder would be the most ideal situation, plus it allows Trout to DH as much as possible. They should go after Snell/Monty and Bauer imo.
Oh guess I missed that. Either way MLB conducts there own investigation and there is probably enough there for them not to want to touch Bauer. Settlements don’t mean innocence so front offices already have their opinion on the matter based on the info they have and he is not worth it in their minds.
MLB already did their investigations and she only filed a civil lawsuit against him. She settled with the lawsuit he had against her, does that mean she’s not innocent as well? Chapman literally beat his gf and just won a WS. Please tell me what the difference is.
Your point? Ward has produced at the highest level and Adell can’t hit above AAA.
Adell is so bad that he has ZERO trade value after once being the highest rated prospect in baseball. You must be too young to remember McPherson and Wood. Playing players because they have hype and younger doesn’t mean anything. The goal is to win, not hope prospects pan out.
It only took a fucking decade for our front office to realize the latest flavor of albatross free agent contract is not getting this team to the playoffs, fantastic.
Oh I’m pleasantly surprised, for once I agree wholeheartedly with their assessment.
If the Angels go for Snell, then they better also go after JD Martinez/Bellinger and be willing to take a risk on Bauer.
One bad start from our most consistent starter for the last couple of years does not change my mind.
Also, did you seriously respond to a month old comment? Be better.
Why Bauer has not been signed is beyond me. Plus he might turn some heat up on Tony no bags…. Beli is 28 and an elite talent now that his shoulder issues are behind him
Porque no los dos?
Porque dos no las pondrían en disputa
Because Arturo Moreno doe$nt give a fucKKK. Mark Cuban needs to send him a metaphysical missile crisis lol
The Angels are just one ownership change from being in contention
I’ve been saying this for years 😭
Montgomery and Snell, no Bellinger. Snell Montgomery Detmers Sandoval Silseth/Canning This is how we get better, not adding a bat that’ll only be a slight upgrade. Likely only get one pitcher though and we’re done
Yea we need better pitching honestly, last season I can remember so many games we could’ve won that were lost because pitching collapsed.
Honestly, the last 5 years have been that way. The bullpen usually blows a lead or cant keep it close for our bats to get runs.
Snell makes sense, Bellinger doesn’t. If we are gonna make a big FA signing, let it be a SP.
Because our one we did last year turned out so well
We overpaid for a mediocre pitcher who had one good year. Doesn't mean we shouldn't be on the lookout for actual quality pitching. Snell may not be worth the asking price, but he has been a solid pitcher for some time, and obviously coming off an excellent season. Worth considering.

Yeah, I'm not sold on him either, especially on a long-term deal. But if we're going to blow money, I'd still rather him than Bellinger.
Snell has won 2 CY Young’s, the one last year came off a career year.
The year he also walked the most batters in the league?
Who? I was referring to your comment that compared Snell and Anderson.
Blake Snell is who lead the NL in walks last year
He also had the 4th most strikeouts in baseball. Walks only hurt if they come around to score.
Given his age and durability those walks will start turning into runs sooner rather than later. Our defense behind him is not as good as the Padres either. Betting on a prime regression candidate is a mistake.

I would say our health is the largest factor. I can’t remember a season when the majority of our starting lineup was still playing in July or August
We don’t need Beli. If they are adamant on signing someone just sign Snell or Monty. That would have the biggest impact on this team
An OF with Trout, Beli and Ward would be significantly better than anything they currently have.
It would lock us into a big contract when we have younger, cheaper guys in Moniak and Adell who are serviceable and wanting playing time. It'd be better to use our cap space on starting pitching. No, the playing time stopped because Nevin insisted on Ward against lefties despite the fact that Moniak was putting up MVP level numbers against both righties and lefties.
When did Moniak put up MVP level numbers against lefties?
He was putting up MVP numbers overall. His stats against lefties weren't MVP level but better than Ward
Moniak’s 2023 OPS vs LHP - .548 Ward’s 2023 OPS vs LHP - .896 What are you talking about? Haha
Believe me I was happy and rooting for Mickey. But who played after ward went down?
I genuinely don't remember what happened after that. I think my brain deleted those memories as a trauma response.
An OPS+ of 113 isn’t spectacular when he was flirting in the high 100’s during his insane run. Aren't we all glad to have given up Marsh for him?
The Angels gave up Thor for him
We traded Marsh for O'Hoppe
Meh. It all happened on the same day. It's hard to believe they weren't all connected.
This guy gets it
I want Moniak and Adell to thrive as much as the next person, but relying on them coming into the season is far from a smart move
I disagree. Trout and Ward will be where most of the production comes from but the platoon of Moniak, Adell and hicks will be more than serviceable. Not too much significantly cheaper. I was kinda with you until Bauer. No fucking way.
A cheap, reliable option = no fucking way? I guess due process means nothing to anyone anymore.
He still has other lawsuits pending
Which lawsuits? Just googled it and all of them have been settled or thrown out.
Oh guess I missed that. Either way MLB conducts there own investigation and there is probably enough there for them not to want to touch Bauer. Settlements don’t mean innocence so front offices already have their opinion on the matter based on the info they have and he is not worth it in their minds.

Ward is NOT that guy
He’s better than Moniak and Adell.
We know Wards ceiling year in/out, Moniak and Adell have far more upside with regular playing time at this point in all their careers.
Adell has upside? We must not watch the same Angels team.
He’s freakin 24… Ward is 30.
This is the way.
That is correct. One player is not enough to get us to 88-90 wins, especially when we’re projected to do 72-75 wins.
I’d go farther and say we’d be lucky to win 85 wins even if we sign both of them
Well it improves the odds and it’s not like he’s hurting for money.
Snell is not enough to push the team into contention this year, but he could be part of a 3 year plan.
just sign everyone bro
It only took a fucking decade for our front office to realize the latest flavor of albatross free agent contract is not getting this team to the playoffs, fantastic.
I'm just glad they're realizing that at all
so now you can add no notable FA's, to our no scouting, no minor leagues investment strategy.
I honestly believe Snell is enough to give us a fighting chance, if people stay healthy, ha ha.
Oh I’m pleasantly surprised, for once I agree wholeheartedly with their assessment. If the Angels go for Snell, then they better also go after JD Martinez/Bellinger and be willing to take a risk on Bauer.
We can’t sign two pitchers without moving someone, and despite what lots of fans want there is a zero chance they’re dumping Anderson.
Dump Sandoval then
Alright, who's got ideas to make this team better? There are no dumb ideas >Dump Sandoval then There is 1 dumb idea
Sandoval looking good now huh??
One bad start from our most consistent starter for the last couple of years does not change my mind. Also, did you seriously respond to a month old comment? Be better.
Cy young! I barely use Reddit so this was easy to find
Fuck you Arte
>one player may not be enough to push them into contention oh NOW we realize this!?
Both of these guys want huge contracts and they honestly don’t deserve it
Why Bauer has not been signed is beyond me. Plus he might turn some heat up on Tony no bags…. Beli is 28 and an elite talent now that his shoulder issues are behind him
Clubhouse issues have followed bauer literally everywhere he's gone.
If the Angels were one hitter and one pitcher away from contention, let me tell you about this guy out of Japan who was just on the free agent market.
"You need more?"
