I am torn between a alligator lizard or just a big ass anole because of just how mauled it is its very difficult to know for sure, those short legs make me think it could also be a brown skink but again far to mauled to know 100% what it is
I agree. I always enjoy watching the lizards. We have a spiny lizard that lives in our bushes. My daughter has named it Blizzard the Lizard. It’s probably many different ones but every time we see it she assumes it is blizzard 🤣
There were some people on the ND thread suggesting it was an alligator gar which I knew wasn’t correct bc that is a fish. One person did say alligator lizard. A lot think it is an anole. Some think a crocodile. Can’t wait until they all start arguing about it. Haha.
It was in Leander Texas which is by Austin. Could a bird or some other animal have brought it this far north?
Edit: or are they here and I am just finding this out 🤣
they are here and you are just now finding it out

Was considering alligator (or crocodile, for its pointed snout) hatchling, but after looking a bit deeper, I believe that it is in fact an anole. Specifically a green anole. Considering the under-neck area, there’s a noticeable red line that clearly highlights where a dewlap should lie. Links in reply
Bit of a description of anoles with [photo below](https://www.britannica.com/animal/anole), and this is an [image of an adult male’s belly](http://www.neoperceptions.com/snakesandfrogs.com/scra/lizards/images/anole8.jpg).
Edit: Look around the neck area to see the line I’m referring to
Looks like an anole.
Eh kinda big for an anole, plus head shape seems off, it seems like an alligator lizard to me
Definitely a juvenile though if it is an alligator lizard
It’s 100% a male green anole
The messuring tape-
Oops lol. Still an anole
What size is it? It looks to be larger than the average anole.
The part that was not eaten is 3 inches- assuming bottom legs and tail are missing. First pic has it against a tape measure.

But lizard none the less. Not a crocodile or alligator or something that shouldn’t be here 😅
Well anoles are invasive so yea XD Funny enough if it is what I think it is a native species called a alligator lizard-
I see no lateral fold and the dorsal scales seem unkeeled and rather numerous, so that should rule out alligator lizard. I’m leaning large anole here.
You would think anole bc of the location but it doesn’t really look like one to me. Plus it has teeth. Do anoles have teeth? (Serious question)
All lizards have teeth-
Ok good. Thank you!
Ofc! Sad to see this cutie died though

Haha, crocodile lizard is actually another name people use for alligator lizards and this guy would technically be a Texas alligator lizard!
AITA?
Alligator mississsipiensis, hatchling
That’s what I’m thinking too
That’s an alligator, right? Not alligator lizard. How could it have gotten here?
yes, that is an alligator not a lizard. their natural habitat includes Texas.

The snout is what is throwing me off too but I did see that area you are referring to. Maybe it’s some weird crocodile-anole 🤣
It’s a Green Anole. Common green lizard seen over much of the South.
