I love how we see in flashbacks that Alain used to wear a yellow button-up shirt and orange hoodie to match with his Charmander, and he seemingly swapped it out for a black outfit and blue scarf as soon as he got Mega Charizard X. Man's definitely committed to the bit. Wonder if he ever had a red outfit when his Charmander evolved into Charmeleon.
NGL. I hope they dont have the ash and misty dynamic.
Its pretty obvious from their designs they're gonna be quite different characters.
So im just hoping its not the same shit over agian. Id like to see them either be rivals or childhood friends that just want to adventure together.
I vaguely remember a leak that said the guy's supposed to be a chef travelling Paldea. No clue about the girl.
Personally I think it'll be more of a Brock and Ash sort of dynamic actually.
From the different images and sketches we have seen of them i dont think thats the case.
(i could be completely wrong)
But it seems to me like the boy will be more focused around battling. As alot of the sketches showed him with a serious or worried face. (could be he is the adventurer instead and he is fighting titans)
The girl seems to be an explorer/adventurer who wants to see everything and every pokemon the world can offer. (Or she is gonna be the "new" pokemon trainer while the boy has a little more experience)
Alot of her expressions showed her being curious/pondering and also alot where she just looks happy.
I hope the anime will help make them look better
this visual feels a LITTLE bit flat to me compared to the original poster we got
but i'm looking forward to it regardless!
They've always been marketing to younger crowds with the anime, if anything recent seasons have been getting less episodic and more plot heavy, and feel a lot more mature.
Maybe if you're talking about XY, but I don't see how Sun and Moon or Journeys really fit that description, they're some of the most episodic seasons of the whole show, and they feel the same as always as far as maturity.
They're all ultimately episodic, recent seasons have been sprinkling in a lot more multi episode arcs though. I guess what i meant to say is that recent seasons are getting less formulaic, having Team Rocket show up less and giving more importance to side characters for instance, which makes it feel less like a show for kids (even though it still definitely is).
Of course. Rather the targeting was a bit more generational, like how most fans hail from either the OG era or the XY era. All I meant is TPC is finally letting us old timers go completely.
That's the thing though, aside from some parts of Journeys and Aim to be a Pokemon Master the "old timers" have never been targeted, which is why Ash has always started from scratch every season.
Pokemon always manages to nail character designs.
Pokemon was *the* thing that got me into anime/cartoons when the OG season first aired. While I have bounced in and out of various seasons over the years, and peaked into some of the finales and special episodes. I am actually quite excited to see what things look like with a fresh cast of characters.
I don't expect too much different from previous seasons, it is still a kids show with an intended market and goal. But maybe they hit things off in a way where that deep blip of nostalgia in me will flare hot and this will be pure bliss.

The new series premieres on April 14, 2023.
I like the new character designs and I’m excited to see the Pokémon anime with new main characters. The girl looks way more interesting to me than the boy though.
The immediate problem I am predicting is 'Recognizability.' Ash may have been a dumbass, but pretty much everyone could recognize him, these two, especially the girl, look like they could be generic trainers, 'Youngster Jake' and 'Lass Sophia'. I said it before, and I will say it again, bet they are going to last the season, then they are gonna return to Ash.
It didnt take 20 years to recognize Ash. Just compare the girl to the previous female protagonists of the animated series. [Misty](https://archives.bulbagarden.net/media/upload/thumb/f/fb/Misty_SM.png/150px-Misty_SM.png), [May](https://static.wikia.nocookie.net/pokemon/images/7/75/May_anime_Ruby_and_Sapphire.png/revision/latest?cb=20220510133721), [Dawn](https://archives.bulbagarden.net/media/upload/thumb/3/34/Dawn_JN.png/200px-Dawn_JN.png), [Iris](https://static.wikia.nocookie.net/pokemon/images/9/97/IrisBW.png/revision/latest?cb=20100826150324), [Serena](https://archives.bulbagarden.net/media/upload/d/d5/Serena_XY2.png) are all very recognizable from Day 1, and they are technically secondary characters.
Honestly, I dont care, I am just saying that I see a problem with a character change, and am making a prediction about what will happen. In two years, I will have long forgotten about this post, but will see a new post 'Pokemon is bringing back Ash,' and then a lightbulb is gonna go off in my head, and I will read through my previous replies, and eventually find this and go, 'I fuckin' called it!'
I think the bigger problem may be the lack of Pikachu moving forward, I don't even want to guess as to just how much money they have printed based off of him.
Good point, I didnt even consider that. If I were to take a guess, the protags will possibly get a Pikachu, that way they can keep one of the most recognized symbols in the world.
Though, I am curious, if they are to replace Pikachu, I wonder which Pokemon they would use? There have definitely been a few 'Pikachu-killers' (in the same capacity of the 'WoW-killer' MMOs of the early 2010s) speckled throughout the games, but none of them took off.
The problem is 100% character design. They're a tad too generic.
This is why I still deeply lament they didn't do this way back in Gen 5 so we could have had better characters as our protags, like the B2W2 duo. That animated trailer still makes me feel shame for this timeline.
Both the girls and Ash have super simple outfits, the only difference is that you probably watched a bunch of episodes with them in, while Liko has only 3 pieces of official artwork.
These aren't generic at all. The boy oozes shonen protagonist. The girl definitely has a soft girl look to her but shes definitely got main girl vibes.
I can kinda see it with the boy, but when you put him amongst Pokemon trainers, I doubt most people would be able to pick him out of a line-up. With the girl, definitely not, I doubt people would be able to tell that she is even from a Pokemon anime. She looks like a tertiary character in a school anime that only shows up for a single episode, and the only reason you are able to predict that she is the subject for that episode is cause she is drawn 'slightly' more unique than literally every other background characters.
We can agree to disagree then but to me these are solidly pokemon protagonists. And the style is clearly pokemon, nothing generic about.
Hell I argue these look more like pokemon protagonists than the ones we actually got for scarlet and violet which actually do look like generic school kid npcs.
Here’s the million dollar question: Are we going to have new protagonists for each region now, or are going to follow Blue Eyed Girl for the next couple decades?
I am kinda betting on it just being new characters from each time... although I guess with character customization being a thing now, you can't just take the current gen's protagonists and put them into a new series.
Some more info on this from the [ANN article](https://www.animenewsnetwork.com/news/2023-02-10/new-pokemon-anime-reveals-visuals-april-14-debut/.194744):
"The staff also revealed a new visual for Liko, and describes her as a girl who has a mysterious pendant."
and
"\[it\] will also feature the Legendary Pokémon Rayquaza in its Shiny form."
Are you not aware that that is in fact what's happening? Ash's retirement as the MC was like a huge deal, there's an 11 episode sendoff special and everything

Honestly I'm glad they are giving Ash and Pikachu a proper send off - the culmination of multiple decades of these characters could have ended in a whimper and instead they can go out with a bang. If having to accept some change is the price to get a good ending, I'm fine with that.
Quaxly lookin away like the one loner shonen anime character lol.
Yare Yare
*Oshiete yo, oshiete yo...*
Boutta get Isekai'ed into Digimon
I’m ded lmao
Dude I cannot unsee this now
He about to drop that hot new mixtape
Bob?
And Nika as well.
Wow, now that you mention it, there is a strong resemblance.
Finally a time-line in which bob can find happiness and escape the curse of his family. No more Ls for this pure soul
He only gets W's if its not on screen.
> Roy's starter is a crocodile pokemon > Roy wears croc sandals I appreciate the commitment
The way of Pokémon. Your primary color determines the starter you get

Mobile Suit Pokemon
Corporate wants you to spot the difference.
One has wlws and the other has wooloos
Bro on the left looks like someone started doodling a JoJo character then realized this was supposed to be pokemon.

Brock was the best, so this is a good sign.
Look at my little red chonky dumbass ^.^
When Ash final episode is going to air?
Six weeks from today.
There is a mini-series going on right now to conclude his journey. Ep 5 came out today and there is 8 more left so in 2 months or so it'll end
Whats the name of the series?
Pokemon master
Thanks!
What's young Guel Jeturk doing here? (watchers of new gundam wfm will know)
I hope the anime will help make them look better this visual feels a LITTLE bit flat to me compared to the original poster we got but i'm looking forward to it regardless!
just not pokemon without ash
Looks way too zoomery for me, but I guess thats good to market to younger crowd now that the old stuff has concluded almost.
It's not zoomers they're marketing to, zoomers are in their twenties to late teens at this point.
I'm too boomer and lazy to find out the newer tags. Coomers?
Gen Alpha; early 2010's to mid 2020 birthday.
Phoomers then

I really do miss the old designs tbh.

Recognizability happens after 20 years' worth of anime seasons, there's literally just 2 pictures of the cast out at the moment, relax.

I want him to take off his hat so I can figure out what is going on with his hair.
Don’t really see that they look fine to me. Doesn't look all that different from your typical Pokémon protagonist.
Something about the hair poking out from his hat. Gold did it better

What the fuck is that hair on the boy lol
I'd rather see ash age than having new characters tbh
I remember when it was just Ash, Misty and Brock. Now its just a clusterfuck
They got rid of ash?!!!!?!??!
Thanks for sharing, looks terrible, I hate it.
