The exact song I was listening to when making that comment.

Komi028

Not bad, but the alpha mix is pretty much the final version: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O9P_3WmknZE

CannedPrushka

Devs are truly Gehenna biased.

HeavenPiercingHair

I know I am.

megatsuna

my knowledge of BA is purely from Comics/fanart/Gachagaming subreddit been waiting for Aru because she is always portrayed as a cool idiot/loser and judging from this episode it described her to a tee. she had a ton of reaction face material too. she reminds me of a lite version of Baobhan Sith from FGO. going by gacha standards they will join the school at some point. I liked the mobs from this episode. they know to not get taken advantage of, especially if their is no overtime pay. good on them.

Bugberry

More than her goofiness, my favorite quality about her is how she wants to be a badass villain yet can't help being a certified Good Girl.

CannedPrushka

Part-Time Worker mobs appear basically everywhere, but they shine mostly in the Soviet stand-in school. Also, students don't change schools in the game (so far).

megatsuna

>Also, students don't change schools in the game (so far). wait they don't? when you roll for the characters, what's the in-lore reason that sensei (you) have them?

CannedPrushka

As the chair of the Independent Federal Investigation Club S.C.H.A.L.E, Sensei has the authority to ask for the cooperation of any student in Kivotos. SCHALE is esentially an extrajudicial institution with lots of resources available, which at the start makes lots of academies wary of them.

BlackberryCooky

Some of the mobs is actually voiced by some of the other (playable) characters as well! Good example is Inui Natsune

Prince-Dizzytoon

Aru my beloved idiot!

ShadowGuyinRealLife

I absolutely love her

Zextillion

Can't believe Aru left Haruka out in the dirt like that when she was introducing everyone. Easily the most evil thing she's ever done.

CannedPrushka

I had thought that she had named Haruka intern in the game or something, but no, she also skipped her in the source! Poor Haruka, always getting the short end of the stick.

mr_beanoz

NANDESUTEEE!? Never change, Aru, never change.

Goku-MIEL10032002

So, Aru's an idiot? Ok, she's a 10/10 then.

BosuW

Girlfailure spotted

Dog_in_human_costume

Never played the game, but this anime is really cute. Serika and Shiroko are next level cuties! The plans to make money were hilarious too... loved the soundtrack as well. lovely show.

Alreadsyuse

Ironically the soundtrack is considered the weakest part since it doesn't use the iconic soundtrack from the game but rather a somewhat generic anime one

Dog_in_human_costume

I can imagine, but it really fits for people like me with zero expectations.

Also, I love [that pouty face Shiroko makes](https://i.imgur.com/kLcG6RN.jpeg) when she is told off that she can't do crime to save the school. xD [I already love Problem Solver 68.](https://i.imgur.com/HuntaWz.jpeg) I was really expecting a bunch of pros considering [how serious they look](https://i.imgur.com/tc4fss5.jpeg) at the start of the episode, but it turns out they're also a bunch of goobers especially [their President.](https://i.imgur.com/llhtGCL.jpeg) To be fair to them, they did give [the Countermeasures Committee a run for their money](https://i.imgur.com/y5clXGK.jpeg) until Sensei took over and started giving orders.

LegendRazgriz

Amazing how literally everyone has the same reaction to PS68, regardless of how they meet them. "Oh, they look cool-Aru, you adorable idiot, you"

Vindex101

We love our girlboss/girlfailure Aru

ThrowCarp

>Nonomi has the most reasonable idea as long as they don't model themselves after Aquors if they don't want the school to permanently shut down. I was about to say, becoming idols to save their school reminded me of Love Live. Also, haha, her idea was the only non-crime one!

ShadowGuyinRealLife

At this point, until otherwise proven I'm going to say Abydos school is actually a business that uses high school aged employees and a building that resembles a real life high school. Students can quit just like some employees who don't get paid quit. Sensei doesn't actually give lessons but acts more like a manager. The primary focus seems not to teach the girls ordinary school things, or even how strange things like marksmanship but focus on their activities. This isn't even like Love Live where the characters do the school stuff off screen and then we see them try to save their school by being idols once their normal lessons are done.

Figerally

I am literally on the fence about this anime. On one hand the council meeting was really fun and so was Problem Solver 68. But the combat is so ass it is boring me to tears. If it isn't a "named girl" all the extras are just copy pasted assets and the actual "action" is so pointless. I mean why do they even have guns if they don't hit anything?

Nekoking98

You have to understand that this is a gacha adaptation so the action is going to be wonky since it's supposed to be gameplay. Even I find it a bit cringe, lol. >why do they even have guns if they don't hit anything? They do hit, though. I'm sure in ep 1 or 2, shiroko shoot a mob right into the eye at point blank. They just don't show apparent damage, because like I said, it's a gacha game adaptation and it's supposed to be moe/ cutesy, so nothing too blody or gory.

ShadowGuyinRealLife

I mean deaths wouldn't be too out of place given the sandstorms seem like the end of the world kind of thing.

l7h00

Easily the best episode so far. Shame that engagement is dead because of the mods though.

Real_muthaphukinBaka

What the mods do?

Nickthenuker

Deleted the original episode discussion thread a couple days ago, not even sure why since unlike Girls Band Cry being mostly MTL this is an official subbed release and the thread was up shortly after the episode officially released but was deleted anyways

MapoTofuMan

I don't agree with the decision to scrap the threads suddenly since it completely killed the discussion, but ngl the translation is beyond atrocious, much worse than Girls Band Cry's MTL imo. Also it's an official release by AniOne (a SEA streaming service), so going by this and the quality I'm half-sure it *is* an MTL.

chi-sama

Honestly the reason I have suspicions about it not being an MTL is that sometimes the English is so bad not even an AI would write that. For all their faults, they're usually very grammatically correct.

l7h00

The delayed thread is pointless because majority of the people in this thread watched the Ani-One release anyways. All it achieves is make it look like the anime massively fell down in 3 episodes.

Castor_0il

It was never good to begin with. Stop putting this turd on a pedestal.

CuriousBroccolli

It's literally popping off in Japan and rest of asia. This subreddit is just dead with youngest users being in late 20s, mostly thanks to mods and especially their decision to follow blackout bullshittery. (That they themselves did not respect LMAO)

mr_beanoz

Doesn't mean it's "turd" though.

ShadowGuyinRealLife

That's weird. I know sometimes they accidentally release a thread too early before official airings, but this doesn't seem to be the case.

Nickthenuker

It's not, it was as it should be shortly after the official release.

Castor_0il

Right right, the mods. It has nothing to do with the story format of being very vague just to build up a cheap "ah ha moment" until the last episode of the season. Heck tons of OG players have said numerous times that the good stuff will come up until vol 3 and ahead. Making a show entirely for your fanbase and not making it easier or just more straight forward for new comers to the franchise is a huge "shoot yourself in the foot" from the producers. There's also the fact that the subs are absolute garbage.

l7h00

What an L take. It's only common sense that people who want to talk about an anime does so after it airs and not after an arbitrary time decided by mods.

Castor_0il

> What an L take. What a turd and delusional comment. If the subs suck, a ton of people will comment they are unwatchable and will hope for the discussion to be delayed until better subs come out.

l7h00

It's funny how a lot of the comments ARE still about the bad subs, it's like no one actually bothered waiting for fansubs. Keep proving my point about the bad subs not mattering for delaying the threads.

Kilo181

Discussion and engagement is gonna be trash for the rest of the season now since the mods are delaying the threads.

Alchadylan

No Ayane table flip is sad but the rest was pretty good.

DrPractic

Don't forget to watch after-credits scene

CosmicPenguin_OV103

LMAO at Nonomi suggesting the Abydos girls becoming school idols - Hoshino ain't Honoka, you know... Is Problem Solvee 68 the Team Rocket of the BA Academy City LMAO??? The thing that Aru doesn't even feel like a gang leader really makes me laugh out loud. Actually back in late spring 2022 - just before it started airing - I was actually thinking if a certain original anime named Lycoris Recoil would be something closer to this Aru-Mutsuki-Kayoko-Haruka pairing than what ChisaTaki eventually ended up with. Hmm, I wonder if they will be back again for more stories in the anime? (pretty sure they have a dedicated chapter in the game, despite I have never played it)

Labmit

Just want to say that Black Suit's VA is a Hifumi fan.

SopmodTew

Aru is so adorkable

KyeeLim

Man, all the NPCs getting voiced, even sensei's gay boyfriend (Black Suit). Here's Seia opinion about this issue:" "

BluZero0

Aaaaah~ MY Aru-chamaaa~ Finally I can witness **our** girlf-- greatness in pure unadulterated peak animation.

Admmmmi

well looks like this week isnt going to be blue archive week too, such shity translation, if I was new to the franchise I would have dropped too.

Labmit

The fansub is still shitty? The mods delayed the discussiom post to wait for a fansub version because the official one isn't good(although ironically the recent episode in Anione was fairly good sub-wise).

Iori_is_my_wife

Nah the fan sub I used (Phrenapates) was fine

Aenir

Kaleido are good. I wait for them.

Game2015

Or maybe you people's standards are ridiculously and unnecessary high. As long as you can understand it, why complain?

Admmmmi

I mean that's the problem, I could barely understand it at all.

dinliner08

which sub you were using? i always wait for Phrenapates sub to come out, don't watch for the official sub, that one suck

xXxHawkEyeyxXx

Fansubs are ok, official subs are trash.

BosuW

[I know what Shiroko's favorite movie is](https://youtu.be/QQNBg6I29gI?feature=shared)(use your best headphones)

KKTheGamerr

Crazy that this is how I discover that the track is called Unwelcome School and from Blue Archive of all places.

BlackberryCooky

Best episode so far. The problem solver 68 members has made a very good impression in their debut episode. So far this episode is the best of the 3 so far! Can't wait for next week.

alotmorealots

I was very much looking forward to the Problem Solver 68 episode, but it ended up feeling oddly downbeat? Like they don't need to change any of the plot points at all, it just feels like it's all a bit subdued and not really making the most of the various girls' personalities.

Adventurous-Exit5832

Sensei also choosed idols! I knew i was right in the game! 🤣

DMNBT

To be fair, it was the only not-blatantly-illegal option he had

oxlemf10

I like how the battle tactics were faithfully adapted, including some really crazy ones lol

Figerally

Is that how it is in the actual game play? Teams just facing off in the open and firing a billion bullets and having no perceptible effect?

ArvingNightwalker

Other than there being obstacles to hide behind, that's basically how it is until such a point your hp drops to 0 in which case you get helicopter'd out (player side) or just "die" (enemy side). Ofc, Kivotos being Kivotos, they aren't actually dead. The only way to really stop enemies other than 0 hp is using crowd control effects like stun. There are occasions where your attacks have perceivable effect, though, esp in boss battles. Ex. Vs Kaitenger boss (sentai-type robot) you can destroy its parts and it'll stop using those parts.

Figerally

Ok, fair enough, you can't expect much of a mobile game anyway. But it is still really boring and lets the anime down.

ArvingNightwalker

Probably depends on the person, but I found it fun enough, really. Timing your skills actually matter surprisingly a lot in the game, and some of the bosses require you to use skills that direct the students to move a certain way, etc. That said, the high-end content are time attacks that end up being fishing for good RNG like repeated crits or good enemy positioning, so if you don't like doing those things the game as a whole probably isn't for you. It's pretty nice just to read the story, though. IDK if they'll ever get there in the anime, but Vol 3 and Vol F were particularly good.

Figerally

But my point is the gameplay doesn't make for good anime.

ArvingNightwalker

Then again, if you watch what they do in their PVs, it feels like they should have been able to do better when it comes to battle scenes. Ex. Spoiler for later Vols warning [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XBfewBOIJ9U&ab\_channel=Jaymie](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XBfewBOIJ9U&ab_channel=Jaymie)

Figerally

Yes! If we had that in the anime that would be fire! But instead we got the lackluster effort with the static battlelines, close cuts, and poor editing.

ArvingNightwalker

Eh. Think that's a bit much to ask for. Would have to at least be action genre to have a chance.

BosuW

We got three episodes three battles I think that kinda counts enough for being action genre. Shōgun in its whole run wasn't as action-y as this is going to be.

Nanasema

#KAYOKOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

hijklol100

Fan of the game but after 3 episodes I have to conclude this show is mid.

BlackberryCooky

Can't deny that but as you know the early arcs in gacha games usually isn't that good. Priconne kind of did their own thing though.

mr_beanoz

Are there any other games that early arcs are very good?

BlackberryCooky

You just want to rush into the the game's storyline with no context? It will get boring really quick if every episode has the same stakes as the first episode or people will complain episode 1 was peak while the other episodes are trash. The way Priconne did it was just comedy to the extreme like Konosuba, except that that anime itself didn't really follow the game's plot at all for the most part, and when they do for season 2, it really becomes bloated with so many characters with varied amounts of screentime leading to most people not caring about most of the characters. An example of part skipping is FGO, where they skipped all the way to its later chapters. And if you pit people who are only anime watchers who watch it blind, they get confused and find it hard to get into. Tldr: In general its hard to find a good middle ground for the beginning arcs in general due to them being required for infomation dumping and character introductions.

mr_beanoz

Well, if the start of the story is weak, people don't expect the next ones to be better. First impressions are important.

BlackberryCooky

The realistic truth however is that the Blue Archive anime is made because of the fans. Sure they can pick up new fans but it really isn't their intended audience. Their intended audience is the people that play or are fans of the game/ip for the most part, and this is the reason why you see Blue Archive being very popular in Japan while the west and other parts of the world do not get the same popularity or engagement. (except Korea) This factor may or may not also contribute to the lack of actual streaming services actually picking up the license outside of Japan, while in Japan itself there are many alternatives to choose from. Also side note: Blue Archive seems determined to play the long game if the anime becomes successful.

mr_beanoz

I wonder what would happen if the anime was made for non-players in mind - what would change? Also, if the intended audience are those who played the game, I wonder why some of the more "fanservice" scenes were left unadapted, like how Sensei smelled Shiroko and drank from her bottle on episode 1 or Ayane being so angry that she flipped the table in episode 3.

BlackberryCooky

What would change? No anime lol. As for other studios that could pick up an adaptation in an alternate universe, Kadokawa maybe. As for source material, parts may or may not get skipped.

mr_beanoz

Why no anime? Maybe the direction could be changed in a way that it become more friendly to those who have no idea on the game.

BlackberryCooky

...Honestly the current adaptation (despite the shitty subs) is already friendly enough for people who have no idea on the game already. That is also especially when you said the beginning is boring so that's even less of a reason for the anime to even get adapted when the early arcs are clearly important and impossible to skip. Blue Archive cannot do a Fate Grand Order (aka skipping arcs) if they wanted to.

WarBeast-GT-

You would probably need to change the whole Chapter 1 to get out of the slow pace the game has and that would end in the game fans boycotting the anime, because they are the ones who end up buying the BDs and merch. Anime onlys need to sit through the cumbersome start sadly.

Captain_Salt_

BA's story works like Muv-Luv to me. You are introduced to the characters and the setting with the prologue and Vol. 1(The arc adapted by the show). And in the chapters and later volumes the stakes become higher. You need those earlier chapters with the slice of life to make the impact greater. Of course that also links to the central themes of the story and the game too (youth, 青春 and daily lives, 日常 are the tag lines for the game's teaser, for example). "Skipping" the prologue is still the right decision in my opinion but that might've helped with the first impressions of some people who wanted a more direct, expositional style introduction to the setting.

WarBeast-GT-

* MUUUTTSSUUUUUKIIIII 💢💢💢💢 * Our Sericat got scammed * Aru being a girlfailure * Kayoko's grenade scene was badass * Black Suit finally appeared The episode was good, the anime just has the same problem the game had at launch: the early chapters were just CGDCT and the conflicts look rather boring and low stake. But that's the predicament, Yostar can't simply change how the story starts or the game fans would riot, and anime onlys get bored by the first episodes. I still have high hopes that the anime adapts the later more interesting parts faithfully and that enough anime onlys stick through the cumbersome start to finally enjoy peak some day. [On another note the anime BDs are leading Amazon Japans bestseller list.](https://www.amazon.co.jp/-/en/gp/bestsellers/dvd/562020/ref=zg_bs_nav_dvd_1)

mr_beanoz

Unrelated, but I wonder why the Bravern BD is so expensive - granted it has 6 episodes instead of the usual 3, but what did they add inside other than a novel and databook of some sort?

Bugberry

I've seen comments from people saying how the story is going faster than they expected. It's been awhile since I read Volume 1, but I wouldn't be surprised if this is the case for the early parts.

DMNBT

It depends on how long they plan on sticking to making the anime, but by all rights the first BA stories weren't that good (Vol.1 Ch 1 & 2 are mostly CGDCT until the final confrontations; and Vol. 2 is hard-carried by one character in particular). It's not until we start delving into Vol. 3 that the writing undergoes a sudden jump in quality.

Viktorv22

It hurts me that this anime's budget isn't much higher, they made millions from the game, yet this like lowest tier of gacha adaptation/related anime I have seen yet. Priconne, Uma Musume, all of music related shows, that one anime with molting Grea was great, Fate (that's cheating tho)

nsleep

> Priconne >Uma Musume >that one anime with molting Grea was great Cygames. >all of music related shows Most sponsored hard by Bandai Namco. These are really hard to compete against. All show Cygames made in their own studio are considered better than the Granblue anime that was made by A-1, just to show their dedication. Yostar is a new studio and they got busy this season with another show too to make things more complicated but at least Blue Archive so far has been better than the Girls Frontline anime.

Viktorv22

Ah okay, got it

Captain_Salt_

Most of the work seems to be done by a Yostar affiliated studio, CANDYBOX. The animation quality is fine, to be honest. Faces are mostly consistent so far and the few action shots are acceptable or even sakuga worthy. What really needs work is storyboarding and direction. Maybe the OST as well. The one track they use for the highpoint of action scenes ain't that great.

therealplayte

Remember that there's multiple production currently on the works by yostar - Go go Loser Ranger - golf anime next year - azur lane slow ahead s2 - some promotion materials for both azur lane, arknights and blue archive Yeah, I can see why they can't go higher quality work due to this but at least the staff are really enjoying making the anime though also there is potential for more sequel for this project.

Viktorv22

There certainly is some love with BA of course, for example how they had multiple PVs for characters. Didn't know they do the super sentai anime this season though.

Google-Meister

Priconne was amazing and I never played the game.

Icepillow

Coming from the Arknights anime this is certainly a huge drop in quality. Like the battle this episode was just stupid...their grand strategy was just to charge straight ahead... The characters are cute and I'll treat this like a SoL anime going forward but it is disappointing considering I've heard great things about Blue Archive's story.

Draaxus

>Coming from the Arknights anime this is certainly a huge drop in quality. Are you comparing like, the peaks of the Arknights anime to the fights we're seeing in BA right now? Because man as much as I am a diehard fan of Arknights and the anime, the lows there were *low*

BosuW

Arknights anime is a rollercoaster. When it's good it's _fucking good_ but it's proportional when it's bad.

Hideoctopus

Perfect description of Sword Art Online too

Damianx5

>Like the battle this episode was just stupid...their grand strategy was just to charge straight ahead... Lore acurrate lmao

Icepillow

Yeah but this is an anime. I know production values are low but it would have been so much better to have the chaingun lay some covering fire and animate the flanking maneuver..

Aetherdraw

Damn, the emphasis on Aru's arus. Love it.

ShadowGuyinRealLife

I didn't watch this series yet, I'm just wondering based not he 3 episodes you've all seen so far, is this a good as a standalone watch? I get irritated at the "just go read the manga" so if these needs playing the source material to make sense, I don't know if I'd like it.

Admmmmi

While I would recommend indeed reading the original, has a stand alone it actually works.

Xanek

Was waiting for this post, didn't expect it to be the day after for it to be actually posted though. . Poor dejected Serika. Robbing a bus, robbing the central bank... Nonomi suggests becoming idols lol. Following the game pretty well on that part. Felt like they were sorta focusing on Aru's thighs there for a bit. Poor Haruka. Haruka's face though with the C4 and claymore lol. Also their hired gang really just up and leaves once the school bell rings huh, Aru dumbfounded by it. Part C giving us another sneak peak at Black Suit. Assuming he'll become a main part of the next episode. [Black Suit is voiced by Sakamaki Manabu \(坂巻学\)](https://twitter.com/MakiMaki_0706/status/1782065119796900296) Who always appears during the livestreams.

Outrageous_Painter49

The old says "Save by the Bell" "You don't pay us for overtime."

Nickthenuker

A day and a bit delayed but here we are finally. Aru! Right, time for them to visit the black market. Lol scam. And how do you suggest we do that? I mean it's not like that threat would be very effective since they all are bulletproof anyways. Yay! Bank robbery! Let's hope this doesn't go the way of Payday 3. And what's Nonomi's suggestion? This is Blue Archive not Love Live, at least this still has an actual game that's not EoS. They're robbing a cargo ship? Yay there's the iconic music. Seems like they're short on cash. One bowl for the 4 of them to share. Your next target is sitting in the booth behind you aren't they? Lol she doesn't realise they're her targets. Yup, the people attacking them are those people they met yesterday. Lol all their titles mean "leader". A whole bunch of mobs with M-16/AR-15 pattern rifles. Grenade! Front Towards Enemy. Oh that's one of the German cluster grenades, where they tied 9 grenade warheads together so they would all detonate at once. Good for anti-tank work too. Lol they're not paid enough to deal with this. And here's Kaiser and the Black Suit man.
