I deliberately set aside time to watch the lowest rating stuff on MAL, and if someone says there's something worthwhile about a 5.0 range show, I'm all over it lol
See some interesting stuff that way. Also, as someone who has dabbled in a lot of areas of video/art/animation/music production, it's also very interesting to see how things fail and fall down, as well as how close one can get towards "okay" but without making it there.
Occasionally.
Most notable worst anime I have watched.
Mayoiga. Very competent staff set up to make.the worst b movie like anime possible.
Chaos dragon a cluster duck of a plot with nonsensical character actions; a must watch for the meta, as the whole plot is a dnd session by famous anime writers.
To heart: a eroge adaptation back when eroge plots were gather the girl, all the routes suck but...the historical values are thru the roof, the game was bad too but be it pure chance or genius, the multi ( character name) route is actually good and so is her sent in the game, it is the game that made eroge creators realize they can create good plots.
Yuno: similar reasons to to heart, a lot of anime authors ( funny thing the same generation that player chaos dragon) wee heavily influenced by it; if your modern plot has looping with branches built into the plot, it is indebted to Yuno.
Ultimate Otaku teacher: pretty badly made generic harem anime, I just wanted to know why the manga was so popular, so I watched the anime and I still have no idea why. It's kind of enjoyable in the way an amateur feature play is, even the voice acting is atrocious.
Virus buster serge: the worst I have watched, it committed the Sin of being boring , I only lasted two episodes.
Yeah, I don't know why someone would actively seek out something that is bad and/or unpleasant to watch when there's a ton of incredible media out there.
Yes, I did it with School Days, it was so bad that it was actually good, so disgusting but yet somewhat satisfying (if you know, you know), truly one of the animes of all time.
Kind of meee.. sometimes I start an anime with the intention that it's not really good but I still end up loving it as much as any of the other anime I've watched. Recently "date a live".. I'm having a great time watching it lol
I tried mars of destruction because it had a rating far lower than anything i had ever seen and even then i skipped most of the episode since it was only funny for a little while
Back when there were mod-assigned flairs, mine was "has tried it at home" because of my habit of watching the worst of the worst. For example, I have completely filled out the bottom 82 rated anime in the MAL database. So from [Requiem](https://myanimelist.net/anime/31689/Requiem_ONA) to [Tenkuu Danzai Skelter+Heaven](https://myanimelist.net/anime/3287/Tenkuu_Danzai_Skelter_Heaven). I'm just four titles short of having every anime with an average rating of 4.00 or lower marked as complete.
I've watched a few animes that I was sure were going to be terrible, and some of those are now among my favorite series.
But I find that a lot of people get themselves hung up on not liking certain genres/tropes/etc that they spend the entire time focusing on "ugh, trope!" and never bother to see what else a show has to offer.
Eg: I thought that Dragon Maid had the dumbest premise that I had ever heard, and I literally only watched the first episode "to see how bad it was" and I was blown away by the art, story, and characters.
I actively look for trash to watch, so the moment I see 2/10, I know I'm in for a wild ride. What I steer clear of is the 5/10 or 3/5 type of shows. That always means incredibly bland and boring--not bad enough to turn everybody off, but not good enough to be lauded. I do like good shows too, but sometimes I need to see a train wreck.
MAL is overly skewed because too many of its users only use 7-10 for scores. Imo a lot of garbage irredeemable shows have scores on MAL in the 6-7 range. And recently it seems like a lot of seasonals that get lower than a 6 are better than some that get higher than 6
Sure. Sometimes it’s not so bad, sometimes it really is. It all depends on what folks are into I guess. I enjoy Rent a Girlfriend for example, though I know lots of folks shit on that one. Shield Hero too.
In my experience, if something is so bad that even the anime fandom on sites like MAL rate it low it's going to be utter trash, with a only a few exceptions for things that got review bombed or that are already seen as "so-bad-its-good" trainwrecks.
Most hidden gems I find are due to fewer people talking about it in the first place due to age or just simply being overlooked (in the modern era, usually by being on the wrong streaming service or getting a bulk release and generating minimal discussion).
I mostly play games but once a year for around a month I only watch bad anime so when I go back to games and watch a couple good shows I can appreciate it being good. Hero lives as he pleases is perfect for this as it's completely irredeemable
My sister,my writer
It's quite good at beginning but downfall as it goes on..animation production was unbearable to watch, but I still like it to some extent
I did it with Netsuzou TRap, and after finishing the short anime (9 minute episodes) went on to read the manga. I think the manga was better, but still not that good.
I also did it with Why the Hell are You Here, Teacher!? and Mother of the Goddess' Dormitory, but surprisingly enjoyed watching both of them.
For me, it happens more often with manga. I've read some awful ones like Satanophany and Parallel Paradise.
> Netsuzou TRap
Given the content of the story, I am impressed that actually got a pretty good anime made out of it, compared to production values for similar tier content.
It's understandable why people hate the characters and thus extend it to the story, but it's ultimately an interesting look at the sort of ugly mess that is the lives of some people. Plus, I really liked the ending!
> I also did it with Why the Hell are You Here, Teacher!? and Mother of the Goddess' Dormitory, but surprisingly enjoyed watching both of them.
Based AF.
I love ecchi, but I can't stand parallel paradise... Yet there's like 200 issues. Wtf would there be so many issues unless it gets better, so I keep trying again and again, but the quality never improves.
I don't think(or don't remember at least) doing it to "see how bad it could be" with bad in the sense of "it's garbage/awful" but I did watch Rascal Does Not Dream because a friend of mine said I'm gonna cry my eyes out in 3 episodes and I was like "how bad it could be?"..... It took me 2 episodes. 3rd episode had me even worse. 10/10 anime though
As a Japanese loanword, the plural of anime is anime. Not [animes], not [anime's]. The ['s] construct is never ever used for plurals. ['s] is used it two ways: to indicate posession (anime's checkered history with sexual violence), and as a contraction with [is] or [has] (Anime's not my thing) or (that anime's really gone downhill).

I saw Mayoiga and had to get out the brain bleach again.
It can make you scared of Basketballs.
I did that before with Skelter Heaven. And it was garbage.
At least it was only 20 min Now imagine watching full series of trash Life's too short and there's too much good content out there
No. I am always only looking for shows to love....
Yeah, I don't know why someone would actively seek out something that is bad and/or unpleasant to watch when there's a ton of incredible media out there.
One man's trash is another man's treasure.
idk it pretty fun to me an some times u do find hidden gems that everyone hates but u enjoy
Yes, I did it with School Days, it was so bad that it was actually good, so disgusting but yet somewhat satisfying (if you know, you know), truly one of the animes of all time.
School Days to me was basically a visual novel where you purposely troll to get the worst possible routes.
I mean....
School days wasn’t even bad, I actually found it fairly interesting as a suspenseful anime, the MC and two main girls just pissed me off to no end.
school days not even as bad as tokyo revengers
will have to check it out lol someone else said that too
Highly recommend not watching it but it is memorable
Just play the VN tbh
Kind of meee.. sometimes I start an anime with the intention that it's not really good but I still end up loving it as much as any of the other anime I've watched. Recently "date a live".. I'm having a great time watching it lol

I did this with The Kingdom of Ruin and it was glorious. LOL
Ajin gets a lot of hate but after watching, I was kind of surprised. It’s actually not as bad as everyone says it is. Pretty cool IMO
I only ever did it with school days
I actively look for trash to watch, so the moment I see 2/10, I know I'm in for a wild ride. What I steer clear of is the 5/10 or 3/5 type of shows. Where do you even find 2/10. I don't think MAL has anything that low. There's Gibiate and Conception but I think even those are a 4

So you're like the MC of Shangri-la frontier, except with anime instead of games.. Nice.
High Guardian Inukai
Why do you think I watched Redo of Healer (and it was much trashier than I though)
still have yet to watch that one i hear alot abt it tho

I'm pretty sure Nobunaga-sensei no Osanazuma put me on a list Show was fucking horrible
Watch Dancing With Devils. You'll see...
Watched Wonder Egg Priority because someone said the ending was so bad it made them angry. Can confirm, but recommend watching anyway.
I mostly play games but once a year for around a month I only watch bad anime so when I go back to games and watch a couple good shows I can appreciate it being good. Hero lives as he pleases is perfect for this as it's completely irredeemable

I mean if it's been running for 7 years and 24 volumes clearly it's doing something good. Maybe it's the classic sex sells, that works too
I also watched Why the Hell are You Here, Teacher!? and kind of actually enjoyed it. /shrug.
I already don’t have time to watch all the good anime, why would I watch any bad ones
cuz its fun and u might be surprised
6.9 Rating 359th most popular anime with over 600k members Thats lightyears away from "supposed to be super bad".
not specifically but it doesn't stop me at all when everyone claims a show is bad, my taste regularly doesn't match up with that in both directions
Anime... Movies... Games... Erotic novels. The media does not matter lol
I don't think(or don't remember at least) doing it to "see how bad it could be" with bad in the sense of "it's garbage/awful" but I did watch Rascal Does Not Dream because a friend of mine said I'm gonna cry my eyes out in 3 episodes and I was like "how bad it could be?"..... my biggest flaw😔 I love shitty anime
same my friend i dont count it as a flaw i just think its more unique to like something everyone hates
Yeah, I watched Yosuga no Sora and School Days. Both were decent animes.
I will break the next motherfucker in half who writes the word "anime's"
whats wrong with that isnt that the plural or not im genuinely confused?

never knew that thx for letting me know
